I haven't had the pleasure of using it with my 5DIII yet, but it was gorgeous on the 7D, too, the one time I really used it.

I'm sorry - I swear I'm not laughing at you. I'm just amused because I didn't even remember that I had it, much less that you did.

And you sold it? Wtf?

Regarding Tamron:

This is from another forum. The writer is a camera shop/business owner.

Insider information received.

I have agreed not to disclose the senders name, but she is an EMPLOYEE of Tamron-USA Sales Division. It seems my order cancellation has sent a message to Tamron and an answer was justified, at least by this sales rep.
Canon has been terrible about supplying their AF algorithm to aftermarket lens makers for well over 2 decades. (Nikon, Pentax and Sony have freely supplied this info to any lens makers requesting it) This causes those lens makers to literally guess at the AF algorithm when designing their lenses, all so that Canons lenses always seem sharper on Canon cameras for the purpose of justifying their much higher costs.

Canon entered into an agreement with Tamron to supply that AF algorithm in exchange for first release benefits of their mount only on new release products from Tamron. The first such release was the newest 70-200mm F2.8 VC lens. The Canon mount was released first followed by the Nikon mount almost 4 months later. Second was the 24-70mm F2.8 VC lens, again followed by the Nikon mount over 2 months later. Now we have the new 150-600mm VC lens issued in that Canon mount first, apparently to be followed by the Nikon mount in 2 to 3 months after initial release.

Looks like Tamron has sold out to Canon in order to get the AF algorithm that Sigma and Tokina are still not getting. Sigma has resolved the issue by developing the USB Dock for its newest lenses that allows users to fine tune the lens focus to any camera themselves. Tokina is still battling the issue and appears to have been left behind in the aftermarket lens race with Sigma and Tamron.
Looks like its all just politics. That and lots of advertising money.

the irony is, I think Sony owns like 10% of Tamron, or at least they used to

edit: 11.38% to be exact

Currently $1700, I'd say get it, if you really want it. The new will be about $2500 when it hits retail. If they go their current route for pricing upgrades.

I'll buy it when the prices come down a bit. The Canon can be had for 650-700 now. I guess they'll be releasing some big buck mark2 version soon.

It's about damn time for them to replace that lens, it's gotten pretty out of date...

That said, I basically stole my 24-105 when I bought it. Got a deal on buying it and a 50 1.4 for $700.

Flawless condition on both lenses.

That's astonishing. I'm on there all the time, and I can never seem to run into something like that.

Wow - great deal!

I'm sad to hear how cheap the 24-105 is these days. I have two and have been thinking of selling one. Sounds like I'd take a much bigger loss than I realized. Boooo.

The 24-105 is a lens that Canon uses to bundle with cameras for kits. Most break up the kit to sell that hot camera at release, leaving the lens. Price is going to fall.

Yep. The market is really saturated with these right now. Prices are around 575 - 650 for basically new lenses from kits.

I know, Jeff. I bought the second one as a white box. It was still in the neighborhood of $1K. And their lens prices have gone up considerably, so I hoped it still had a little more value than that.

The only other things I'm really thinking of selling are the 40D and one of the 7Ds. And maybe the EF-S mount 60mm macro, since I have the 100mm that works on the full frame. I'm having trouble letting go, though.

It would be easier to decide about some of these things if I knew whether I'd ever start the business up again.

You could sell someone the 24-105 and the 40D for $700...

It really was a once in a lifetime deal haha, I guess there were 50 or so PMs for that package and price within an hour. Thankfully I was first in line.

Any MF lens enthusiasts in here? Added the Rokinon 85/1.4 to my collection recently, and it's been a love/hate relationship. But damn...when it's on, it's on....the lens is pretty amazing considering the price tag.

its a good lens for the price, but its one most failed lenses out in the market right now.
