For anyone who has taken pics in Ontario, Canada... There is a contest on now at http://shareyourontario.com

The contest is even open to folks that don't live here, just needs to be a pic taken in Ontario. Have a look at the rules.

If you are so inclined to vote this link should take you to my image of a farm field. You do need to register though...

Just ordered a 10 stop ND filter. Anyone ever use one of these? Love the idea of long exposures in full sunlight.

Wow, a 10 stop is strong. What ideas did you have for using it? I had a 6 stop for my Oly, but rarely used it ( no waterfalls in FL.).

You've got the whole Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico to slow down.

I have a welding mask lens that works out to 12 stops. I havent used it yet for a 'real' photo. Just test shots that I deleted right away so I can't show you any samples. The welding glass creates a green tint that is easily removed in post so it is technically not true ND.

My plan was to take a shot of a farm with a wheat field on a windy and partly cloudy day. The effect would be motion blur in the field, motion blur in the clouds and the farmhouse would be still. Of course it will now be 8-10 months before I will see those conditions again. There is a whole thread of 10 stop ND photos in POTN.

yeah that thread on POTN is what made me want one. They have some pretty awesome photos in there.

Going up to the mountains in NC this weekend. Should come in handy for streams and waterfalls for sure.

I have a couple that I don't have posted online yet, not with a 10 though, with a 6 and a 2 stop filter stacked.

Other than waterfalls, what have you used it for?
I've never found myself thinking "man, I really wish I had an ND filter right about now"

I've used one once during a very bright day when I first got one, when I didn't have CPL with me.

I've wanted one before. To do long automotive light trails during the day / dusk.

I turned down a job at a similar studio here in the DC area. For the same reasons. Also, they book you up far in advance and pay peanuts (which is understandable, as they're doing the marketing, selling, editing, album design, etc.) but then you don't have the dates available if you get a legit gig yourself that could pay much more. I also just don't want to do this for someone else. I want to do it for myself.

I picked up a Smith Victor BH5 ball head last week. For less than $60 it's awesome! So if anyone needs a budget tripod head, I highly recommend it.

just heard back from insurance.. they are sending a check tomorrow, enough for a 5D2. They are sending some details with it, if what I'm understanding is right, I have 2 years to replace it with an equivalent. So that would mean I *could* wait til the 5D3.. I think at this point, if I'm interpreting that correctly, that is what I'm gonna do.

Do you have to send them a receipt or something? To verify you actually got a 5D?

It has been a while since I bought some new toys. I ordered a 85 1.8 and a sun sniper strap today. It will take a while to get it since I had it shipped to a friend in Detroit and then will get carried across the border and shipped to me. I will save about 125 in shipping and taxes that way.

Just over $1900 new, $1600 maybe a bit high, but not much. I'd hope for $1500.

I would get it. That lens holds it's value really well.

It is an amazing lens, both on my 7D and 5DII. It's usually always mounted to the 7D in my bag.

someone explained that list to me, i feel better now

I agree with all of it. Your club/bar photos are not what they are referring to, rather the horrible, blurry, and pretentious camera phone pictures that people post all over facebook to announce how wasted they got over the weekend are what they mean I'm sure. As for the rest of them, I can think of exceptions for all of them, but I keep picturing people's crappy cell phone pics of each one.

I just made 25 prints today for an art show I'm in next weekend. It literally took me a full day to make that many prints, but now I've got to mat/mount them all. I got the mats pre-cut but I'm doing the mounting myself for the first time.

I hope they sell, otherwise I'm going to have every wall in the house covered. I've given my family fair warning that they all might be getting some prints for Christmas.

so a friend of mine said she wants me to take photos of her new baby, in the hospital, on delivery day. And I was like sure, no problem. What I didn't know is that she wants me to be in the surgery room, during delivery. so I'm like uh... sure! haha. might as well! could be interesting. I don't know if they'll let me in with a camera though? She claims she's a "cranky pregnant woman" and so she will get her way lol. She is quite assertive as it is. LOl
