Sony RX100 Selected by Time as One of the 50 Best Inventions of 2012

Michael Zhang · Nov 02, 2012

Earlier this year, New York Times gadget columnist David Pogue wrote a glowing review of the Sony RX100 large-sensor compact camera, calling it “best pocket camera ever made” and saying that “No photos this good have ever come from a camera this small.” It seems like his review was on the mark: the camera has since received similarly enthusiastic reviews across the web and was awarded “Advanced Compact Camera Best Product 2012–2013” by the EISA. Now, Time has selected it as one of 2012′s best inventions, saying:

Digital cameras have been getting smaller and more capable every year, but that trend took a huge leap forward in 2012 with the Sony RX100, which bridges the gap between point-and-shoots and pro-quality digital SLRs. Sony’s innovative design and 1-in. (2.5 cm) sensor allow the camera to take flawless photos even though it’s 20% slimmer than your average digital SLR—small enough to fit in your pocket.

Google Glass and a tactical ball camera were two other photo-related inventions that made the list.

Ehh the RC-6 only works on a rebel and it doesn't do the same thing as a TC-80N3

Anyone on trigger trap?

I think I'll get it since its only $29.

Been wanting an intervalometer for bulb mode and this does that and a lot more because its using my iPhone/iPad.

So.

http://www.petapixel.com/2012/12/06/...e-supposed-to/

Sme Nikon D600 DSLRs Not Closing to the Apertures They’re Supposed To

A little earlier today, we reported on how Sohail Mamdani of BorrowLenses had discovered that one particular Nikon D600 he was testing was consistently overexposing photographs by two stops. After searching long and hard for the cause, he stumbled upon the culprit: the D600 wasn’t closing the aperture blades to the correct opening size.

The photograph above shows two D600 DSLRs. The one on the right is defective, while the one on the left isn’t. Both cameras have their aperture setting set to f/8.
Some Nikon D600 DSLRs Not Closing to the Apertures Theyre Supposed To apertures

A closer look at the size of the two openings

When the depth-of-field preview buttons on the front of the cameras are pressed, the defective copy has an aperture that’s much larger than it should be. It lets in roughly two stops of extra light compared to the correct f/8.

The issue isn’t a lens issue, as they’ve tested both 3rd party (Sigma) lenses and official Nikon lenses.

So far, Mamdani has tested four D600 copies owned by BorrowLenses, and two of them had this defect. He tells us that he’s not sure whether it’s an issue on Nikon’s end, or whether the faulty D600 bodies were somehow damaged by renters over the past couple of months.

If you shoot with a Nikon D600 and have been noticing consistent overexposure (something that’s hard to detect if you only use one camera body), you might also be experiencing this strange aperture issue.

So I noticed that the 1D3 are around 1100-1300 used.

If I sell my 2n for 750-800 I'd only need another 350-500

Just thinking out loud

Matt, if you specifically are looking for a trigger for bulb mode, why not a simple cheap wired trigger? Im pretty sure I paid $7-8 shipped for mine, and it locks in place for bulb mode

I'm a Sony shooter and even if I had the money, I don't think I'd get it. I much rather wait it out and see if they come out with one that's lens interchangeable

an A-mount mirrorless full frame is inevitable

Yes, but this can do so much more than just locking the shutter open.

Plus it's only $29 with prime shipping. Not really gonna break the bank.

1D3 is too much of a risk, unless it was some of the last one's made.

Don't see them making one, it would take from their "dSLR" line. This was to compete with Leica.

I have a choice between a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 or a Gitzo GT1541. Both are free. I am not sure which one is the right choice. Has anyone compared either of those? Is one more stable than the other?

They are both four section tripods, so that takes a little from the stability as to a three section. They are both made for easy travel, with that, the Gitzo is less bulk in the legs and that would be the reason for it to be my choice.
