^^^ insane bird silhouette!!!!
Ping Tom Park / 18th Street Bridge / Chinatown Chicago - 11 June 2014 - I was really lucky to catch the water completely still, tough to do for this area since the water taxi is a frequent visitor. This only lasted a few minutes, once the taxi arrived the waters stayed in motion.

Canon DSLR/ William Optics 80MM refractor.
A few years back I was trying to capture a series of long exposure images of the Andromeda galaxy for stacking and I needed to focus my scope before I began. I chose the star Mirphak (bright star to the upper right) and planned to slew over to the galaxy's coordinates after I had attained focus. After a few 5 second exposures I kept seeing a smudge in the image and thought a moth or something had landed on my scope's lens but upon further investigation realized it was a comet! I took about ten two minute exposures stacked them as best I could before the comet set behind some trees. I later found out that this was Comet 17P Holmes which had brightened unexpectedly. I then made plans to take better focused and longer exposures once I got the exact coordinates. Much to my chagrin, the next week and a half the skies were cloudy and it rained. I may have another chance later this year if the comet brigtens agan and weather permitting! This is the only image of a comet I've ever captured. I've always been plagued by bad weather or poor timing.

That is AWESOME!
I love images of the night sky. Astrophotography is something I would LOVE to do sometime.
