RS Spied

From Worldcarfans...

Despite the fact that Porsche has already begun to develop the next generation 911, there are still some versions of the current 997 that have yet to receive the face lift. One of these models is the hardcore version of the GT3, the 997 GT3 RS. We brought you first spy photos of the GT3 RS facelift just a few days ago, and already spies have caught the puritan 911 during a second sortie at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

The GT3 RS is based on the wider bodied Carrera 4S, but in this case it looks like the front fenders have been extended even more. We also notice that huge adjustable rear wing that helps keep the car planted during high velocity. The lighter weight GT3 RS also boasts of wider wheels and retuned suspension. These close-up shots also give us a nice view of the roll cage and the tops of the carbon fiber race seats which are the same as the previous version.

The engine will remain the same as the "normal" GT3 facelift, meaning a 3.8 liter flat six delivering 435 horsepower. But a rumor we heard is that the PDK gearbox will be available as an option for the GT3 RS which may be controversial to Porsche purist. However, the rationale is quite simple - it makes the car faster.

I don't know why but I just love the spartanness of the interior.... suede on the surfaces that matter. and yet the outside just screams race car.

Post Porsche hints at electric 911

From Motor Authority: http://www.motorauthority.com/porsch...ctric-911.html

Electricity and high-performance cars may or may not mix, depending on your frame of reference, but whether you're a Tesla fan or a Formula 1 devotee, it's easy to agree that an all-electric Porsche 911 would be a welcome creation. Porsche's Wolfgang Durheimer recently discussed the issue, but despite his hints, revealed no plans for production.

Even if Porsche does build an all-electric 911, it's too late to be the first to do so - RUF has completed and is preparing for production of the Greenster (pictured below), a pure EV built from a production 911 Cabrio.

But don't let your mouth start watering with dreams of unlimited torque, instant response, four-wheel motors and continuous traction control - all marshaled with Porsche finesse and handling - just yet.

Durheimer says that while RUF's creation is a masterpiece, it doesn't have to deal with the production-vehicle realities of ample cargo room and light weight that a Porsche-built 911 EV would require.

He has a strong point - though impressive, the RUF Greenster weighs in at a hefty 3,750lb (1695kg) and produces 362hp (270kW) - enough to shuffle to 62mph (100km/h) in just five seconds, but hardly Porsche 911-territory.

Nevertheless, the fact that Durheimer has paid so much attention to the RUF project and is willing to discuss it hints at the possibility of an electric future at Porsche.

Porsche unveils sportier 2010 911 GT3 RS

Hot on the heels of introducing its latest 911 Turbo model, Porsche has unveiled details and photos of the 2010 911 GT3 RS. The new model gets a host of upgrades that should make it even more potent, including an additional horsepower from a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat six (previously 3.6L) that brings total output to 450 bhp, 15 more than its GT3 counterpart. As expected, power is routed through a 6-speed manual transmission with shorter ratios than the one in the GT3.

Handling has been further improved with a purpose-built PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) suspension, a wider track both front and rear made possible by larger wheel arch covers, and dynamic engine mounts that are able to adjust their stiffness and damping effect depending on driving conditions.

For the exterior, the new RS is by far the most outrageous looking car Porsche has ever built with large-and-in-charge graphics, revised front and rear fascias consistent with Porsche's current design themes, and a new carbon fiber rear wing mounted on aluminum supports. Lowering weight was also a priority, and the new GT3 RS gets an optional lithium-ion battery that saves 22 pounds over the standard unit and a lightweight titanium exhaust system. Pricing is listed as $132,800 for the U.S., with an official introduction coming at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Hit the jump for more details in the press release and click away on the high-res gallery below.

The same exterior design...over and over and over again.

The same interior design....over and over and over again.

The only big difference now is that they have that tiny LED in the front end...

911 is a classic. if you mess with the formula too much, its not a 911 anymore.

and furthermore, you will piss off a LOT OF people..

instead, continue performance improvement while maintaining integrity and history.

this GT3RS is making 450hp... normally aspirated. The same rating as the 959, which was twin-turbocharged and not to mention one of Porsche's greatest supercars ever. Now that is something.

My sensei got wheel time in a 959 when he was on Paul Allen's security team. Both Paul and Bill Gates spent mad coin in importing 959s. According to my sensei, 2 best cars in Allen's stable at that time were the 959 and F40.

I'm not feeling the GT3RS logo placements though, I liked it better on the side of the car, that had a more classic feel to it. If I was buying one of these I'd probably ask to have it on the side or delete it outright.

I think when i'm ready to either add another or replace this one, it still might be a 997, i don't think the 998 will be as affordable as a 997 when i'm ready to buy.

But who knows......

i think you meant to say, what a great lineage. You also meant to say, it's a sports car, the interior needs to be basic.

Dude, the 911 is a classic. If Porsche decided to dick around with the formula, they would be have an angry mob to deal with.

And honestly, what's your point?
