Nissan Plans New York Debut for New Altima
The New York auto show will be the first public display of the new 2007 Nissan Altima, the company confirmed on Wednesday. A new body style arrives in 2007 on a new "D" platform, promising better body rigidity and a newly penned suspension. Nissan's Xtronic CVT will be standard on all models, while the 3.5-liter V-6 and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines will remain on the roster. On sale in the fall of 2006, the Altima, Nissan says, will be one of the best-performing front-drive sedans on the market.

I'm sure Nissan has figured out a way to up hp and circumvent torque steer. Judging by the steady changes to the G35 during its life cycle, it's apparent that Nissan listens, and no doubt they've heard the complaints about torque steer in the Maxima.

You should tell the Nissan tech to apply and work for Infiniti instead.

Yep, all other Nissan vehicles are made in the U.S or Canada. The only Infiniti vehicle not made in Japan (the QX), was ranked worst vehicle by CR this year for reliabilty. It's made in the plant that makes the Armada and Titan, which are both also very unreliable. :/

I think vehicles suc h as the titan, armada, qx etc become unreliable because they are rushed products. I've owned Toyotas and Nissans that were built in the Us without problems that well exceed their warranties.

Looks like Nissan will also unveil the new Maxima as well. LINK
Thank You Nissan!!! The faster we put the 6G Maxima behind us, the better. (Although I'm not all that impressed with the CVT, being a Murano owner and all. )
The Japanese automaker will also unveil its redesigned flagship Maxima in New York. The Maxima features a redesigned exterior with a new front grille and revised hood, headlights, front and rear bumpers, side sills and wheels, along with a new interior and revised instrument panel. The company said its Xtronic CVT transmission is now standard on all models.

Then who needs an Infiniti M35/M45 then?

Anyone who wants the Nissan competitor to the Avalon "needs" a Maxima.

As the Versa, new Sentra and, later this year, new Quest, new Maxima and all-new Altima designs demonstrate, Nissan will be very aggressive in keeping its products fresh and innovative. People turn to Nissan for products that enrich their lives in newer, better ways, and these new models fulfill that need and that promise. - Carlos Ghosn, 1/9/06
Stay tuned.....

F23A4, I see what you're saying... Ghosn referred to it as the "new" Maxima. I could very well be mistaken, but I don't know for sure. He referred to the "all-new" Altima... so, I don't know if it's a marketing play on words. Either way, the Max will be practially all new whether it shares the Altima's all new platform or still rides on it's existing FF-L platform. If it's as close to the Teena as I think it is I already love it (especially the comtemporary interior). I hope it's an all new car. Like MaximaPower said, it's to late for a heavy refresh... As you said, we'll just have to stay tuned. Nice find, Resident Nissan Guy.

It's partly Nissan's fault for not moving Infiniti's design far enough away from Nissan's (in the U.S.). With this gen M, it's still sold as the Nissan Fuga in Japan... I expect a sexier, curvier design theme (as demostrated on the Infiniti Coupe Concept) when the next gen is introduced in Japan as an Infiniti. I remember that many people acutally thought the G was a lux Altima when it first debuted. That said, Maxima has about as much in common with the M as the Avalon has with the GS. A more luxurious Maxima is geared at the Avalon's juggular; hopefully, Nissan has enough sense to offer a 6SP with it to regain some of it's sporty reputation (wishful thinking). The M is a very rigid, RWD with more power, luxury, and finesse than the Maxima. It can run circles around it... I don't think that the new Maxima will hurt the M's at all... trust me, people interested in buying an M aren't cross shopping it with the Max. Rather, if any car's sales would be hurt, I'd be Avalon's.
