Coupe spotted...
From Leftlanenews...
Images surfaced online Saturday of what appears to be a Nissan Altima coupe. The photos were taken outside the California Bear Credit Union in downtown Los Angeles on Friday. It's not clear what the vehicle was doing in LA, but the presence of a large crew suggests a photo shoot may have been underway.
Published rumors about an Altima coupe have been somewhat nonexistent this year, but there have been some rumblings about the possibility. The coupe shown has a close resemblance to the Nissan 350Z an the Infiniti G35 coupe. It also takes some inspiration from the Nissan Azeal concept — especially in the shape of the C-pillar. The front fascia appears nearly identical to the recently-unveiled 2007 Nissan Altima sedan.

Well, it will cannibalize 350z sales for people who want a cheaper alternative or people who live in snow climates who think FWD is better than RWD in the snow.

i don't think it will cannibilize 350z sales at all, but it will give peopel who are "maturing" out of a 2-seater sports car a place to go if they aren't ready for a family sedan just yet.
but someone who wants to buy a 350z isn't going to look at an Altima coupe as an alternative. Besides the engine type/displacement and number of doors, the 350z and Altima have nothing in common, including target demographic.

holy shit! That thing looks nice! Lots of nice G35 coupe cues there.
I hope they take the pains to differentiate the coupe from the sedan from a performance standpoint. Maybe make a 6sp manual an exclusive option for the coupe (as in the case of 03 Accord coupe) or add extra bracing to stiffen the chassis. Maybe tweak the motor for a few extra HP - should be too hard with a VQ!
A cabrio would compete well with the G6 GTP vert. I didn't think the market was that big, but I'm sure it is. It just seems like a small market due to the relative lack of players. I would think that the biggest compeition for Nissan would be the Eclipse Spyder. Both are very powerful, seat 4/5, and should be priced similar.

Wow, I like it, but these are my opinions:
1. Why Altima coupe and not Maxima coupe?
2. Imagine that Nissan/Infiniti will have possibly 6 coupes on the market by 2008
(350Z, 350Z roadster, G35/G37 coupe, Nissan GT-R, possibly Infiniti version of the GT-R, and Altima coupe). Pretty sad that Nissan/Infiniti have 6 coupes and Honda only has the Accord coupe and S2000. Acura has zero coupes until the NSX comes back

Isn't the Monte Carlo the coupe version of the Impala?
We need some interior shots to see if it can really compare to the G35C though..the outside I actually like more (From what is visible)

I am curious as to the powertrain direction Nissan would go in with an Altima coupe, although I assume it would be the same as the sedan (VQ35DE, QR25DE); not unlike the Accord, GM W-body and Camry Solara.

A car that's gonna be $10k less than a G35c but looks the same? And how crappy of an interior will they fit this Nissan? It's a next-gen Altima so the plastic has to be vastly improved than the previous gen ...
And apparently, it will be available in spring 2k7 (whereas G35c is rumored to be Aug 2k7) ... this will be on my test drive list. As much as I love Honda ... a Honda in this price range doesn't look as nice as this.

Good point, though I might add that the Monte Carlo is dead after this gen. ... no room for it with the new Camaro coming.

I don't have a problem with the new Alty coupe looking like the soon to be old G35 coupe. It'll do wonders for sales... I remember when the Solara's sales skyrocketed when the current gen came out... everyone said it looked like a Toyota SC430, which is true. Back when it came out, you could put a Lexus badge on it and called it the ES330 coupe, lol.

Oh I forgot to mention that Honda has the Civic Si coupe and Acura has the possible TSX coupe, so alright Honda/Acura has 4 coupes.
Now, would any of you buy a Civic Si, Accord coupe, S2000, or TSX coupe over any Nissan/Infiniti coupe?

True. Everytime I see a new Solara I think ES330 coupe. Which is not a bad thing really...

The coupe looks like it could be the next 350Z. Just imagine if it had a VQ35HR and RWD. Like the styling of the 2007 Altima so I'm really feeling the coupe too.

First thought is photoshop. When its at the auto show I will believe cause the same was posted when the new altima was shown.
AS far as seeing the interior to make up your mind, try looking at the sedans interior, they will be the same.
AS far as a maxima coupe, what is this 1991? What the hell is the point? To make it fwd vs g35 coupe of the same price that is rwd? Welcome to no sales cause Infiniti will have you for the same price.
