+3 on awaiting the TL redesign. Sorry, but the 4G was an abysmal failure. 3G TL>>>>>>>4G TL in every way other than lacking SH-AWD.

The RL sold only 33 copies. Who'd buy now with a new RL finally in the wings?

TSX wagon, my current Acura fave, is holding steady in sales. Right now, I'm officially and actively looking at it as my next daily. Drives nice for a 4-banger! Holding off until the new RL is intro'd in April.

^ RL = Corporate sales. HondAcura execs would be my guess. Their demos are up so they trade it in for another RL.

Honestly, they didn't really make any RLs last year. They essentially told us there will be one run towards the start of the MY and we should 'anticipate' our needs for the year and order accordingly. We probably sold the 1-2 we ordered/received.

even though the 4G TL MMC is quite handsome, the initial "beak-shock" was enough to demolish a ton of sales for the lifetime of this generation... the 5G should be interesting

I would never go so far as to say ANYTHING about the 4G is "handsome", MMC or not. There are just a plethora of aesthetic problems with the car that cannot be covered up by new bumpers and grille.
But the "beak-shock" phenomena could be a real and deserved demolishing effect for the 4G.

The TL is SO far gone right now, to me, that the 5G will have to be a miracle of modern engineering to draw me back.

Save for the 2G TSX and the MDX Acura designs have been abysmal. The ZDX looks odd. The 4G TL 09-11 was ugly. The 12 MMC is more palatable. The 3G RL was ugly. The MMC made it look geriatric.

2009-12 have been a terrible period for Acura design language. I hope Honda realizes that exterior design matters just as importantly as what's under the hood and the interior. The ILX looks pretty good. The NSX is gorgeous. If the 4G RL looks anything like the ILX to a larger scale, it will be moderately successful. The same goes for the 5G TL. I would consider upgrading my 05 3G TL in a couple of years if that's the case.

Technical correction here: The RL is only on its second generation (2004-up). The MMC was for the 2009 MY. The new RL will be the 3G RL.

Opinion: Other than the beak, the MMC RL looked pretty butch. The beak ruined the front and did make it look like a Mercury.

Hopefully Acura has learned its lesson and will make it better-looking. We are now around two months from finding out.

Post Feb

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., today reported February 2012 monthly new-vehicle sales of 110,157, an increase of 7.8% over February 2011, based on the daily selling rate*. The Honda Division posted February 2012 sales of 98,899, an increase of 8.8% year-over-year.

In its second full month of sales, the all-new Honda CR-V eclipsed its previous February record with sales of 24,759, up 24.5% over last year’s total of 19,096 units. The all-new Civic continued to build momentum with sales of 27,087, up an impressive 36.0% compared to February 2011. The Accord posted January sales of 20,702, down 6.3% from the same period last year.

“The ultimate arbiter of a vehicle's success is how customers vote with their purchase decision, and customers are voting for Civic,"
said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales. "On top of the strong consumer support for the new Civic, we’re seeing tremendous demand for the all-new CR-V.”

The Acura Division’s February sales totaled 11,258, up 0.1% compared to February 2011, with 2 models registering strong sales increases. Sales of the TL sedan reached 3,211, up 26.0% from the same period last year, while TSX sales set a new February record of 3,373, a year-over-year increase of 15.9%.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 25 days for February 2012 and 24 days for February 2011. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 49 days for 2012 and 48 days for 2011. All percentages reflect DSR.

Civic gaining traction? Three of my friends have purchased Elantras now (including Andrew). It blows that thing out of the water.

CRV and Civic are doing very well, keeping the 4G CRV styling update mild was a good decision.
Wonder if they are transitioning down RL production?

RL and ZDX sales are a joke! I'm surprised the TL sales is steadily going up...must be the restyled grill that's drawing a few more customers!

The Domestics
Chrysler had its best February since 2008, which also marks its 23rd consecutive month of gains. Granted, Chrysler saw some of its worst sales ever about two years ago, but its picture is still fairly bright. Chrysler division was the brightest spot, especially the 300 sedan, which nearly quintupled its February 2011 number. Jeep and Dodge also had pretty solid months overall.

Ford’s biggest gain came from its Focus, which topped 20,000 sales for the first time in a while. Sales were up 115 percent for the compact car, but that’s over an especially weak February 2011. The brand also nearly doubled Mustang sales, while its pickups gained as well. But nearly everything else in its portfolio saw a modest decline.

GM continues to suffer, although the automaker is quick to correctly point out that it had an especially strong start to 2011. The biggest decline came at Cadillac, although that brand is down two products compared to this time last year (DTS and STS). Buick also struggled; its new Verano’s 1,688 deliveries couldn’t offset the 2,574 Lucernes it sold last year (yes, we realize the Verano did not replace the Lucerne). Chevrolet was the automaker’s only bright spot last month.

The Asians
Honda seems to be turning around its mainstream product sales; redesigned Civic and CR-V models had strong months with sales up 36 and 25 percent, respectively. Acura’s sales were mostly flat overall, and it sold just 56 ZDXs and 28 RLs.

Hyundai saw its best-ever February, and it says that retail sales were up 29 percent, while overall sales were up 18 percent. Sonata remains its volume player, but nearly every one of its products boasted an improved month.

Kia finished its 18th-consecutive month of record-breaking sales on strong numbers for nearly all of its products. A small decline in Sportage and Sorento demand was offset by more than twice as many Optima deliveries (up to 11,558).

Mazda’s financial woes have made the news lately, but things might turn around quickly if it keeps breaking sales records. It posted its best February since 1994 on strong demand for its Mazda3 and Mazda6, which were up 40 and 80 percent, respectively.

Nissan posted its best-ever February on strong demand for a number of its products, but its biggest standout was definitely the Altima. Although a redesigned model will debut in a month at the New York show, Nissan delivered 58 percent more Altimas last month than they did last year. In fact, Nissan’s midsizer outsold the Chevrolet Silverado.

Toyota’s two divisions are posting a turnaround thanks to their mainstream sedans. At Toyota, demand was up more than 50 percent for Yaris and Avalon, while Camry surged ahead of rivals to become the country’s second-best selling vehicle last month. Lexus saw demand increase 560 percent for its redesigned GS, which was its second-best selling passenger car. Trucks and crossovers were down for both divisions, however.

The Europeans
Audi once again broke a monthly record, its 14th consecutive month to do so. Demand was up for Q5, A6 and A3, but down slightly for A4 and A8. Q7 slid nearly 50 percent.

February was BMW’s best such month in five years, and its redesigned 3-Series provided the biggest boost (up 66 percent). MINI was an even stronger performer with sales up nearly 50 percent.

Chrysler’s Fiat brand had its best month since relaunching here about a year ago.

Jaguar bounced back strongly last month on increased demand for its XF and XK models; XF sales nearly doubled, while XK sales nearly tripled, although volume for both models remains low.

VW had its best February in nearly 40 years, with its Passat boasting its best month in more than a decade. While VW is still a long way off from its goal of selling 800,000 cars annually (combined with Audi), it still had plenty of reason to celelbrate last month. Passat’s 8,189 deliveries mark a comical 11,434 percent improvement over last year, when 71 leftover outgoing models were sold.

What is wrong with Infiniti? I mean some of the models are getting old, but they are pretty much what people want...no?

RWD
Powerful engines and performance that can match pretty much everyone in the market
Relatively cheaper than BMW/MB/Audi

Makes me wonder the same thing about Audi. They seem to have what most people on this forum ask for and even have a lower point of entry than
Acura yet they continue to sell thousands less despite their recent sales increases hitting record sales for the brand.

Infiniti – Down 3 percent to 16,035 YTD

If you google up Audi's sale numbers that are broken down into product models, they are selling a lot of mid to high end models, which probably give them loads of profit out of the sales.

Other than the G, lack of exposure.

I feel the M is an outstanding car, but lacks the brand cache of the 5er and the E-class.

Horrible fuel efficiency across the board

Where did you get that from?

An overwhelming majority of Audi's sales come from it's entry level models. For the month of February, 6,061 out of 8,531 sales were from the A3, A4, A5, and Q5. That's not a bad thing because these are bread and butter products and all the sales of luxury brands are skewed in this direction.

Even if it was pent up demand, that would mean that it was good enough for these buyers to wait for it to become available, despite so many other cars in its class being available. I doubt many people here would agree with that.

I'm sure the Civic is a fine car. IMO those sales are mostly a reflection of name recongnition that has to do with reliability and fuel economy. I'd personally never buy one because it's boring as sin and has a terrible interior but it's obvious many don't feel that way or simply dont care. I'm a bit surprised but the Civic name carries some cache.

Not at all surprised that the CR-V is a hit but that number has to be close to a record? Outside of the 5AT they got it about perfect IMO.

I'm surprised to see Altima biting at the heals of Camry. Altima 58% increase over last year. :woah: Altima is getting a refresh next year, are they giving away the 2012s?

And then the 2012 was hampered by the earthquake, tsunami and finally the flooding in Thailand. What a star-crossed life it's led.
I hear you with the TL hard-knock life story but I think the "controversial" styling had more to do with it's poor sales than any other factors as well as the RL and ZDX. None are considered good looking cars by most impartial people. The MDX on the other hand is a good looking car and I see those things everywhere.

No, I definitely don't think it is that. If anything, their designs are complemented in almost every review I read. They have tolerable grill designs unlike the complaints other get:

Acura: buck tooth beaver
Audi: big mouth bass fish
BMW: kidney beans anyone?
Lexus: predator grill

Interesting point from Jeff at TOV

http://www.vtec.net/forums/one-messa...tem_id=1044014

But industry research firm TrueCar.com says incentives on the Civic have more than quintupled since its debut last April to almost $1,900 per car in January, suggesting sales are being driven by attractive deals.

Not sure), but I don't know if I'll be able to wait that long. In the meantime, cars like the Cadillac ATS are really turning my attention to other brands.

Acura's going to be bringing this new TL out when several major competitors are bringing out something in the same price range. Here's to hoping they knock it out of the park. Give me something that has 280+ hp, 40 mpg, and can run for 150-200k miles. See? I'm not asking for much.

TSX is still going strong despite being closer to 5th year now.
Nissan group is going to surpass Honda. unless Honda radically redesign Accord and Civic. who know RDX sales may save Acura but than there is JX.
Nissan only has to do Sentra right. Maxima at 6600 is near record level now
Kia-Hyundai is stagnating. despite being newer models and all advanced technology utilized with generous equipment levels.
