How can u say your paying for the name, this car is incredible? Buying a old 318 was paying for the name

Haha I don't think anyone on this forum over the age of 18 bought their Acuras to impress girls in the first place.

The new IS is excellent, lots of good features and the packages they offer are great, if not overpriced. I priced out a 350 with the sports package it came out around 42k msrp. I'm sure a dealer would sell for 40k.
That's kinda steep for a car like the IS, don't you think? I would have expected 35-37k.

When i first got my TL-S back in high school, it really impressed the girls....so i dont exactly agree with that statement. I dont have it anymore, but it was an eye catcher. 42k actually isnt too bad for an IS. The G35 tops out at around that price and it sells just fine. I'd spend that much if i had to buy another g35c. 46k for an IS on the other hand is a joke. My friend was so set on getting the IS350 but when he saw it/drove it he wasnt impressed. He said the interior was cramped and the dash looked cheap. I believe hes getting an M3 now instead

I have to call :bs: on your friend.
Has your friend ever been in a BMW almost the same exact Dimension and even smaller in the coupe.

Front Headroom lexus 37.2 in. BMW 330i 06 37.4 in. BMW330ci or M3 36.3 in.
Front Shoulder Room lexus 54.4 in. BMW 330i 06 55.4 in. BMW330ci or M3 54.5 in.
and I have to tell you The dash on the new 3 is very bland and not as nice as the old 3 which I liked (If your friend is looking an M3 than that interior is nice but still doesn't make the IS look cheap or enven close). and I have never heard any or read any car mag ever say lexus interior looked cheap. Infiniti , but never lexus. car and driver "Highs: seamless interior finish, the most entertaining Lexus so far." http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=9

Come on, if your friend is looking to buy M3 $62,000 your not looking at a IS350 $43,000 your talking almost $20,000 dif. At that price your looking at sc430, MB clk500,M45, and GS430, RS4, AMG32 that’s a whole another classes of car.
That’s like saying I'm going to either buy a Miata or MB SLK, if you can afford to buy a slk your not looking at a miata. or better yet a honda accord.

I swear it seems like BMW die hards (not saying you just some people posting here) are so scared of this car, and looking for every excues in the book.
No one is saying the IS so much better than the BMW, but is a good contender and it is a good alternative to the 3. A good car is a good car. I've driven both BMW and lexus back to back they are very close. one does not over shadow the other except for price. (if U compare it to a M3, It of course kicks its but)
and I think 51k is a joke for a bmw 330i vs the same car equiped car in an IS for 43, or even 46 with the (PSC) makes this a great deal and A G35 an even better deal.

By the way the only way the IS gets to $46,000 is if you get the
Lexus Pre-Collision System (PCS) [9] and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control [10] (automatic transmission only) - $2,850 which no other car in its class offers. ( it not just a radar cruise control. Its the PCS also) not that I'd ever spend the $$ on this.

^ I know it's going to sound odd, but sometimes you can't compare the dimensions. Like I know the TL is bigger than the TSX dimensionally, but it feels like it's more comfortable in the TSX's backseat than the TL's backseat. Likewise, I was very impressed with the BMW 5-Series maximization of interior space. On specs, it doesn't look any bigger than the competition, but when I was sitting in the midsize luxury cars at the auto show, the 5 definitely felt the most comfortable in the rear.

My friend currently drives a TL so he is not a die hard BMW fan. Neither am i since i drive a G35 coupe. He was very excited about the IS350. He had two colors on reserve in fact. He went to the lexus dealer and was not impressed. Simple as that. He liked the way it looked more in pics. He just told me that for a sedan, it felt cramped. I've actually been reading around different forums and have heard the same thing. I'm not saying at all the IS is a bad car. I think it looks okay and it performs well on paper. And honestly, its not that outrageous to be comparing an IS350 to an M3. I mean, when i was looking at the G35 coupe, i was also looking at an M3. Just because your looking at a car that is 62k doesnt mean you wont look at one thats 40k.

R&T mag tested the IS350. They got:

0-60= 6.0
1/4 mile = 14.5
skidpad= 0.80g (VDIM limited)
slalom = 61.3mph
60-0 = 128 ft

They said that it was 93 degreed F when they tested acceleration at 128 ft elevation.

I agree with you to a certain extend that Lexus doesn't have the global name recognition like BMW or MB, so yeah, it's not in the same league. However, Lexus has DONE a very good job of making sure that people are not just paying for an expensive, over-price Toyota. That's all.

Test drove the IS350 today. It was short and there were a bunch of cops, so no real fun

I don't like typing a ton so it will be short.

Overall, I really like the car. Great lexus quality, great layout, design, materials. Nothing cheap about this car. The backseat is a pretty decent size, its not huge, but its not as tiny as those pictures above make it out be either.

Engine sounds great, seats are comfy, car is pretty quick, handling is the best i've felt in any lexus so far. very solid, sturdy, took the one corners i got to throw at it very well.

My complaint.....still has shitty lag in the sport shift, and that just drives me nuts so I put in D and finished driving it like that. They really need to get a better auto tranny in this thing.

That's because the VDIM cannot be turned off.

Yeap. That was my biggest complaint also. This tranny ruins the whole experience. And one does not have to go to 100% in order to feel it. Even at 75%, it's a problem.

How are the new IS sales going so far? I have yet to see an IS250/350 on the road in Chicagoland yet.

The IS luxury sedans enjoyed sales of 2,563 units, an increase of 378.7 percent over the same period last year.
http://www.toyota.com/about/news/cor...1-1-sales.html

For comparison, TSX number was 2,742, an increase over last year and continuing a 5 month record breaking run; I was expecting IS sales to take away some numbers.

The dealer in Glendale had 2 250 w/ sticks in the show room, and 1 350 on the lot.

Apparently all the others were pre-sold.

Why do you think the IS didn't take any sales away from the TSX?

Don't know. It'll be too easy to say price, since the two are pretty much selling at the same pace.

mmmm TSX is still a bit cheaper then the IS. Specially when loaded.

This new IS really competes more with the 3 series and A4 when it starts coming down to price.

That's true, and I forgot that that number from Toyota probably includes the IS350, which does not compete with the TSX as much as the IS250.

A loaded 250 will run upto 7K more than a TSX.

Now with the 06 TSX out I expect numbers to increase even more.

i still have yet to see one on the road in northern va, land of the bimmer....

just sold my s2k, and i am pricing out sport sedans right now and the IS is way too expensive for me to consider with reasonable options, I would much rather have an m35/45 for the features and space at that point

I saw one on the Beltway last week. Other than it kinda standing out, the looks are already just meh. Phonaka had 4 on the lot last weekend (11/5) and the configuration pickings are pretty slim (38K 250AWD models and 44K 350 models only). A 280HP M35 is no slouch even compared to the IS350 for the same money.

Yes, I would say this warrants another test drive.

Can anybody make sense of the instructions?
