sorry it's fully loaded, but still very steep since it's in USD, the price is very close to a 330i

i donno... i mean its a good-ish price, but people look at that price for a Lexus and might just drive over to the BMW dealers instead... afterall the blue and white logo is still wayyy more attractive.
I think (i know i do) most car buyers has a psychological barrier at 40k. they want space or performance and loads of options . Hopefully Lexus would reconsider the pricing.

I don't see the IS250 taking off, its underpowered.

But all the wanna-be's who are stretching their money will get them just to say they have a lexus... Much like the bimmer 318ti of the 90's and that benzo c230 (the hatch back ones)
The only difference is, the IS250 looks ALOT better. and when it comes down to it, you're still getting Lexus/Toyota quality.

I have to agree, I think. The people that will be buying these cars are more interested in the image than they are in the cars ultimate performance. I really wonder what that base 250 comes equipped with.

I wouldn't mind the 210 or so HP of the IS250. Sure it'd be nice to have the bigger engine just for kicks but for me I don't know if a couple more seconds in the quarter mile or from 0-60 is worth another 5-10K as I never use that much power driving to work.

The IS250 should be a great car and it's probably worth the money over the TSX. If it were available at the same time I was buying my TSX I probably would have got one.

What do you base that opinion off?
And does that still stand true if the 06 TSX is suddenly pushing 220HP and 175lb-ft for 06?

It looks they backed off from specific prices. They did mention that the IS250 will start at near the current MSRP of the IS300 ($29,435)
At 12:00 pm EST at the 2005 New York International Auto Show, Lexus announced the final prices and transmission options for the second generation 2006 Lexus IS. Four models and prices were announced. The IS250 will have around 200 hp, 180ft-lb torque and will be available in RWD and AWD platforms. All IS models will have 17" and 18" wheels available.
IS250 RWD manual
IS250 RWD 6-speed sequential automatic
IS250 AWD 6-speed sequential automatic
IS350 RWD 6-speed sequential automatic
The IS350 is considered a halo vehicle for lexus. They said it will have upwards of 300 hp and 275 ft-lb torque. It will only come in RWD with a 6-speed paddle shift transmission.

2007 GS450h RWD 3.5 V6 hybrid was said to have better performance than the V8 model. More than 300 hp. 0-60 in under 6 seconds. City and Highway MPG in high 20s (27-30 mpg).
-----------------------------------------
Commentary and Opinions:
It seems Lexus wanted more time to mull over the prices before making the final pricing announcement. They had mentioned how the IS250 MSRP will be close to the currrent MSRP of the IS300. This can mean that the entry level price is still around 28k or it may be around 30k. I would add $2,400 to the IS250 base models and am lost on the IS350 as the pricing seems in line with a fully loaded G35 and current 330i. Look at this article's figures for preliminary numbers. The lack of an intermediate sedan allows for higher base model pricing and allows for a little less internal competition for the halo model. Please note that the IS350's price is rumored to be in a fully configured model. If I were to guess, I would guess that the IS350 will be in the mid 30k range. Lexus obviously didn't want to release final prices because I'm sure they are still playing around with numbers. Maybe they're waiting for BMW's announcement on May 6th?l

-RWD
-Toyota/Lexus quality > Honda/Acura
-probably higher resale
Power isn't really that big of a deal to me for either car. Both are more than enough for scooting around town and commuting to work. If I wanted more power, I'd probably want a different car altogether like an STi.

-RWD - Meh, like you said for scooting around its not a must.
-Toyota/Lexus quality > Honda/Acura - I agree
-probably higher resale - I agree
But what will it cost equipped like a TSX?? I somehow can't see it being equal. Especially considering the current IS300's pricing in Canada.

The lack of torque steer that comes with having RWD would be nice.
Pricing wise, I guess it will be about $5k more than a TSX here. If the resale is a couple grand more when you sell it, then you're probably only looking at a $3K difference at the end of the day.

More Tq thats also pulling around 200 pounds more. The engines IMO are a wash as it stands although the TSX could gain an advantage in for the 06 MY.
Service is a no brainer.
Handling? we'll see.

PEOPLE, its a freakin' car! EVERY car (i.e. sedan) has very similar shapes! They're bound to look somewhat the same!!!
Even the interior!

As far as performance of the 250, Lexus can print whatever hp/tq numbers, but the only thing that really counts is how quick it moves.

New Edmunds' 06 IS350 full test. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...line.promo.2.*
Again, they think the VDIM is too intrusive. And they didn't think the acceleration of the IS350 feel like 300hp.

Acceleration: First gear is very short, and upshifts in manual mode could be quicker. Traction is not an issue unless you power brake, at which point it will light up the tires if the T/C is turned off. Upshifts occur at 6,500 rpm, which is the marked redline. We found it strange that the traction control defaults back to "on" each launch, or when the car goes above 10 mph.
Braking: Under hard braking we couldn't detect any ABS noise or vibration at all, and the pedal was stiff and confidence inspiring. It could be a tad more progressive, however. Stops were very straight with a minimum of front end dive and virtually no detectable fade.
Handling: The car will let you get a little sideways before intervening, but we would still prefer less electronic interference, or none at all. The steering is well weighted and the wheel itself feels good in terms of having a thick rim and some feedback, but it's not up to BMW standards. Body roll is present but well controlled. The IS 350 is very predictable at the limit, and the electonic brake control and stability programs do a good job bringing it back in line when things start to get loose, at the cost of some slalom speed.
