Interesting...
Super Hybrid Sports sounds really stupid.
Acura SHS + SH-AWD sounds much better.

Story
Even though it's been going on for more than two years now, the tale of the Acura NSX is like a news story that just broke: you have to keep checking back for details, and each subsequent update could turn the whole story on its head. The V10 NSX that was going to own the sports car gods on Mt. Olympus was killed, and a rumored newly resurrected NSX is said to be a V6 hybrid that will challenge Toyota's own will-they/won't-they FT-HS/Supra.
Whereas Toyota's entry is reported to put out 400 horsepower to the rear wheels, the NSX will reportedly get about 450 horses going to all four wheels via Acura's SH-AWD system. Dubbed the "Super Hybrid Sports," sources claim it will be built on the same steel platform as the next generation Acura RL.
While this speculation sounds like an interesting car – at least, until the next update comes along – it is a redefinition of what NSX means to us and could take a while to get used to. And if Acura is truly intent on becoming a top shelf luxury maker, we can't help but find it a bit quizzical that they're taking their flagship sports car brand downmarket to compete with a Toyota Supra.

If true, this is quite sad. Please don't tarnish what reputation the NSX had left.
They need to stop building half-assed vehicles that straddle different areas (sports car + environmentally friendly hybrid? Doesn't even make sense!). Just build a balls to the wall NSX for a halo car to build the brand reputation, for God's sake.
The wallowing and constant changing of direction is really starting to piss me off now.

That definitely looks like an S2K not an NSX. but it's just an artists rendition, so i wouldn't put too much credibility on it.
however, seeing Acura's current moves, I wouldn't doubt it. they're really trying too hard with the SH-AWD system to make it a legitimate item that consumers would want.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a SH-AWD super car, as both the R8 and Gallardo are excellent AWD supercars. However, I'm skeptical that this vehicle even exists, considering the cancellation of the previous NSX and RWD/V8 development.

OOooo, crazy idea!
Why doesnt Honda/Acura put both cars on the market. One Godzilla slaying beast and one hybrid for the Hollywood types.
Its a win-win.
Im tired of hearing about the NSX. And please, people, stop complaining about the name. NSX stands for New Sports eXperiment. This, as well as the V10 front engined model, is just that; a new sports experiment.

I'll tell you what it is...it's how Honda redeems Acura...by mindfucking with us.
They'll give us one thing to get excited about (RWD/V8/Next gen NSX/etc. I heard rumors of a hybrid AWD RL and at least a RWD 2G RL way back in 2000 as well as the next gen NSX prototype street testing with a ferarri, where the ferarri crased, back in early 2000 also), people get excited, think Acura's gonna be tier-1 soon, and the people who fall for it, defend Acura, and buy Acuras and tell their non-enthusiasts friends to buy Acuras because "it'll be tier-1 anyday now!", then when the rumored date comes close to fruition, something always changes their plan. but now they changed their plan, so they need something else to mindfuck with us again to keep it going...so now this! I bet you anything that if this rumor develops to be a "true" rumor, by the time this thing is expected or should be close to introduction Honda will have some other reason not to put it into production.
Like this guy I know...he's unemployed (he was unemployed when the economy was good). He'd find jobs by telling people how hard working and dedicated he is, but then slack off starting the first week, missing work, showing up late, leaving early, etc. and he'd always have excuses for it. that's all that Acura has done lately, excuse after excuse after excuse. There will ALWAYS be a reason not to do something, such as the economy or whatever. But when you have already spent millions and over a decade developing an NSX successor, bite the muthafreakin bullet and finish the damn thing already!

GM would probably be a better comparison for your unemployed friend. At least Honda is financially successful compared to other car companies and isn't on a street corner begging for money from the government.

yea but MrDeeno's point is well taken. Honda has been talking a lot and delivering little for too long. From a business perspective it's worked. They aren't in the red this year like most car makers. But it sure gets frustrating and makes you eventually stop listening to the excuses.
This "new" NSX story sounds like BS but probably has some basis in truth. I think the rendering is BS also but if it were true, I think they should take the top off, keep it in the $60k range, and make it a Z4 / SLK competitor. That would help them more in the short term than an NSX replacement like they were working on last year

Hybrid supercar, yea!!
Another vaporcar is more like it, along with all of the other promised cars. Of course this one might actually make it; afterall, it's something no one really wants.

This new NSX will be on lots in 5 months and MSRP will be around $79,995!!

Honda is in red since beginning of this year which happen to be there last quarter for last year that abscure the results. 40% decrease in revenues. It shows they are either deeply discounting or lower priced models are selling.

As far as their 2010 Q1; I haven't seen the numbers. Didn't even know they were made public yet. If you have them please post a link. No doubt it's a train wreck like everyone elses. But you have to look at thinks relative to the competition.
Bottom line; We can't necessarily say they are meeting the expectations of car lovers. I'm right in their with people complaining about that. But, as a business they are impressive. Profitable, diversified, smart. Make no doubt about that.

Although earnings are unsurprisingly far worse than those of Q1 2009, at least Honda was back in the black during the first quarter.

Ugh, I am not going to get fooled again by Honda/Acura. How many times have they changed their minds???
I bet couple of months down the road, they will say that they have decided to end the NSX project....
JUST MAKE THE CAR!!!!
