Would the 918 owners actually care what the performance difference between their car and NSX!?

They should have initially put out a supercharged (or turbo'ed) 3.5DI mid engine coupe with SH-AWD then followed it up with the performance hybrid system that could get it north of 500hp... I don't understand why they made it so complicated and now so expensive. Its a shame.
That's why there are so many choices under $200k.
For the NSX, it's about showing what Honda can do, it's about experimenting with new ideas to make a great sports car. Right now, it's safe to say the NSX is unique because there isn't a production car out there that has active torque vectoring, hybrid system, while being under $200k.
One might say, well, the original NSX wasn't this complicated. Well, of course, but that was 25 years ago. At that time, the use of all aluminum construction was state of the art. The use of titanium con-rods I believe was also a world's first. Also, making a supercar that is user-friendly was a brand new idea too.
If the new NSX only uses a boosted 3.5L with a normal SH-AWD system, then there's really nothing special, nothing, experimental about it, wouldn't you agree? May be that should be called the OSX instead - Old sportscar experimental..if that even makes sense....

Time to get down to business.
It’s been less than a year since the all-new, 2nd generation Acura NSX debuted at Detroit, and sales are set to begin shortly. With demand expected to be high, at least initially, we’ve been hearing about plans to not only keep the NSX fresh but also more competitive against a growing number of rivals. The latest bit of news comes to us today from Australia's CarAdvice who, speaking with NSX project leader Ted Klaus, confirmed that two more NSX variants are in the pipeline.
![](https://db.carbuzz.com/images2/520000/7000/400/527458.jpg)
Expect an open top NSX to arrive fairly soon and it’ll likely pay homage to the original NSX with a targa style removable roof. But what ought to be really quite something is the even more powerful NSX Type R. According to Klaus, the NSX’s "chassis has way more capability, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we take advantage of that in the future as well." If any NSX fans recall, the original NSX Type R, put more of an emphasis on weight reduction as opposed to added power. This time, however, Acura/Honda is intent on doing both. The "base" NSX is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that’s paired to 3 electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack for a combined output of 573 hp.
![](https://db.carbuzz.com/images2/520000/7000/400/527459.jpg)
The state-of-the-art Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive System, according to Honda, provides superior handling and Ferrari 458-matching acceleration but with far greater fuel efficiency. So when will that NSX targa and Type R appear? No timetable for either has been announced just yet but we’re guessing the targa will come along 1st.

I just noticed something.
The rear= Honda' version of Aston's ass.
Nothing wrong with it... but yah.

I do like the front and side profile. The rear and interior are a bit underwhelming for a $150K.

Different but I'd say, the NSX isn't horrid. My biggest gripe per what I said to Legend isn't that I think the car is bad...just that I can't help but feel waiting all this time, and seriously, all this time after cancellation and cancellation and etc., we get a car that just feels like it could be more...? I dunno. And per the 2.9 second 0-60 sprints, I just read on Motor Authority they clocked it at 3.5. That's a big difference.

I actually drive the big boss's car on a regular basis. The Turbo one.
The acceleration is ... you know.
But it is definitely not a user friendly interior...
BTW: ordered an S class for him. Should arrive next month. I think i drive his car more than he does

Well, FWIW, at $150K, what do you think of the high-end spectrum 911's interior...?

To be fair, I don't think the interior for NSX is bad. That's not what I'm saying. It just reminds me of other Acura interior too much. It's not really a bad thing.

Acura Has Some Awesome Plans For The New NSX
Been rumored for a while, but there's now confirmation that two more NSX variants will come out - a targa and a Type R.
For the Type R, unlike the previous NSX-R which only focused on weight reduction and balancing, this new NSX-R will also look into increasing power.

He is always traveling. He only has the Porsche.. and a X5 and soon the S class will replace the Porsche.
In 3 years, he drove 13,000 miles and he has a 70 miles commute, not considering any outside of work mileage. you do the math.

I have no doubt the NSX will be a fine handling car. But equating it to the 918 (as skd did) is a poor comparison inasmuch as (arguably) the 918 is at least as good as the NSX in the handling and braking categories, weighs only slightly less, but has approximately 60% more HP.

Quick Spin: We Drive The 2017 Acura NSX, Ever So Briefly (Page 2)
that the standard Continental tires offer poor grip. Acura is touting the NSX as an everyday supercar, and that's likely the reason it understeers—like almost every vehicle on the road today—and that it comes with tires meant more for wear than handling.
When asked if this is the final production spec of the NSX, engineers said the hardware is locked in but the software could change. I suspect that by the time the car goes on sale in March, Acura will make two changes. First, Acura engineers might be wise to dial in more torque vectoring to let the car rotate more willingly. Second, Acura should make the Continental tires a sort of all-season option and the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires the standard rubber.

Only Honda would come up with All season tire setup as standard for a "super car".....
Is anyone really going to drive that car in show? i think traction is not the concern with its superior ground clearance.

Legend, I'm not saying the NSX sucks...not even close. But, I'm also disappointed with the numbers given how long we've waited and waited and waited. It's not an indication that I think the car sucks.
Just that, with Honda/Acura for me lately? It always leaves me wishing for a bit more...?
That's all I'm saying.

For me, the C7 nails it. Curb weight just under 3300 (hey your number!), 455HP, and with Z51/7MT and low level trim package you can get out the door for under $62K. There's alot of other cars that wow me (488, 650, 991 Turbo,...) but their price/performance ratio is too high for my income. I could even live without a Z06/7.
Wow, and no batteries or turbo's either.

But this is also one of the reasons why Honda made the NSX. It's why Ted Klaus keeps talking about how the NSX is supposed to be an everyday's supercar. It's okay if you don't agree with that direction, that's perfectly fine. It's just that, the NSX is designed around that theme, just like the original NSX.
And it's why there will be a Type R version for those that want pure performance, and don't care much about having an everyday supercar. The new NSX that you see right now is just the base model.
