That's probably because the FT-1 has only been shown for about a year, without much news on a production version. On the other hand, the 2G NSX was first shown in 2012 and production is less than a month away from being shown.

Steven, here's to hoping it does.
I'm still not loving the looks of the car- it just looks like hey went to various auto manufacturers parts bins and picked and chose what they liked. Although, the prototype interior did look pretty nice.
This will be the most scrutinized car of 2015... And it's only coming out in the first two weeks of the new year. Acura better be bringing it's A+++ game...

The only way the NSX dominates headlines is if it's absolutely bananas. They need to surprise everyone with something like 600HP+ and a sub $150k price. I don't see that happening.
They're too late to the party. We've been hearing about it too long. That initial excitement is wearing thin and now there are too many other attractive options. At this point, it's just another $125-$175k sports car to throw in the growing pile of options.

To be fair, the actual 2G NSX announcement was made in 2012. Ito said the production model will be shown in 3 years. Long and behold, the production model is to be shown in Jan 2015.
With that said, I understand where people are getting that perception of "too late to the party" or "been hearing for too long." Honda has been showing concept cars such as the Dualnote, HSC, and HSV.
For comparison, Toyota started development of the LFA in February 2000. The first LFA concept was shown in Jan 2005. The actual production model was not shown until Oct 2009. Production began in Dec 2010.
For the current GT-R, the first concept appeared in 2001. The production was shown in 2007.
For the Ford GT, we can go as far back as the GT90 that was shown in 1995. The GT40 concept car came about in 2002. The production model Ford GT came out in late 2004.

If you count the (LFA/GT-R/GT90) first-show concepts as the starting date, then the NSX concept (the Honda CEO was Takeo Fukui) was first shown in 2007.
So it REALLY has been a long time for the NSX to come out, and the car still hasn't.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic. Yeah it's been in the works for too long, but it would be worse if the thing came out "on fire," or with bad handling characteristics. Also, everyone always jokes about how much Honda hates us all. Here, they're giving us just about the best we could possibly dream of, and we still complain. I think it'll be a great car and drum up a lot of good excitement for the Acura brand. Lets just all hope it will be the same revolution the last one was!

The Ford GT is more of an issue, for sure, but the idea that no one is going to care about the NSX because of any one car is just not likely.

Yes, NSX is a legend. So is Supra. The FT-1 is the Supra. People aren't stupid. The FT-1 has already taken the car community since their concept release.
Don't get me wrong. I love NSX. Hopefully it will have the performance to back up their bold claims.
If the performance will be comparable to GTR with the price undercutting them by just a bit, trust me, I'm be a fanboy. The old NSX is my all time favorite car and that design is timeless.
BUT if the price of this new NSX is higher and offer less performance than GTR, I would say it's a failure considering that they have taken so long to get this out.

Looks good, curious to see how it performs.
Glad Honda ditched the previous V10 front-engine design for the twin turbo V6 mid-engine.
See the C7 Z06 as more competition than the GT-R.

You might be right, but at the same time, it has the biggest Japanese sports car name to live up to. It either becomes a successor to its previous generation or pales in comparison. Either way, the FT-1 is not faced with the same scrutiny as a car that continues the NSX lineage.

If ford shows up with a concept GT-40 it will steal the majority of the headlines here in the states. Its an legendary American car, Far more legendary than the NSX

If Ford introduces a new GT-40 successor at Detroit, the NSX will be an afterthought.

What's a good estimate for the hp numbers? It's got to be at least 500.

Maybe like a 450 hp engine plus whatever the electric motor adds? Maybe less?

And that goes back to my point where I was saying it's a perception - that Honda has been showing us the dualnote, ASC, HSV, and the Advanced sports car concept from 2000-2010. Honda never claimed those to be the NSX concepts.
On the other hand, for the LFA and GTR, I was only referring to the very first concept cars that were called LFA and GTR. For instance, in 2005, Lexus showed us a LFA concept car - that means Lexus actually named that concept car the LFA concept. Same for the GT-R. It's not like Lexus is calling the LFC concept car in 2005 as Lexus supercar concept or whatever.
It's true that it's been a REALLY long time that Honda has been flirting around with idea of launching a halo sport car. No doubt about that. And it's true that they were close to making the HSV-010 into a real car. But those were not the NSX concept cars.

Hmmm, the first NSX came out later than the R32 GT-R and the GT-R had slightly better performance. The GT-R was a whole lot cheaper too. If the above trend still holds true for the GT-R and NSX, then I think you will be disappointed. The GT-R has always been a very good bang for the buck sports car (much like the Corvette) while the NSX was more known to be the Japanese Ferrari.
The GTRs ain't that cheap now. So, the NSX has a lot of market room to penetrate into. It's not just about how well it performs. The pricing will be a huge factor for NSX. Hopefully they will go reasonably low on the price to hype it up from the get go.
The GTR was a huge success in both actual comparison tests and marketing because of its humongous bang for the buck factor when it first came out like 7 years ago.

Welp, so much for the NSX being the most important thing in Detroit.
From Autoblog:
From Autoblog:
Anticipation for all of the exciting reveals at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show just a few weeks away is building to a fever pitch, and rumors are mounting that Ford has a big surprise in store in the shape of a future performance halo model.
Insider sources speaking to Autoweek claim the next Ford supercar is definitely going to be revealed at the Detroit show in early January. However, the model is not necessarily the next-generation Ford GT in terms of its name or design aesthetic. Instead, one of these people indicates that the new halo model might drop retro styling altogether.
If the latest reports are to be believed, Ford's high-performance project goes beyond something to just grab headlines and rocket down the street. According to Autoweek, the automaker is also reportedly employing Chip Ganassi Racing to run a two-car racing effort in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship in 2016. That would allegedly include a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans to race on the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT40's win in 1966. The speculation goes that at least the racing version might use a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 for power. However, the motorsports part of the program may not be announced during the auto show reveal.
Rumors about the new halo car from the Blue Oval and its racing intentions have been percolating for months. The company might have considered an LMP2 entry, but speculation popped up later about the production supercar. A more recent report suggested that Ford might show a new Shelby GT350R Mustang, a successor to the F-150 Raptor and next Ford GT in Detroit.

The head- and tail-lights look ugly to me. The aero vents are fine but I thought they had it right with the most recent concept.
Also, the new image embedder blows.

Missing are the massive-sized air intake vents at the rear fender, in front of the rear wheels.
That should make the car more eye catching.

Acura should make 300-400hp SH-AWD 1G TSXs, 2G CLs, and 3G TLs.

It would be nice if it was more "exotic" looking.
Hey, if it's like the ZO6's, you can't sit in one, you can't drive one (at the dealerships). Just go in there and stare at it.......

I dig the taillights. Aston Martin-ish. The headlights...best iteration of the Jewel-Eye as of yet (I like the bigger "segments", as compared to the small ones on the TLX, MDX). Although, I don't like the black gap beneath the forward section of the headlight.
I wouldn't call it bland...but uh, what's with the toned-down side intakes? Practically non-existent.
And call me crazy, but I think the beak...needs to be a little bigger. Should be flushed (or close to it) with the headlights.

I dont think it looks bad... but it does not look $150k...
can't believe no one has mentioned this...
Where the fuck are the exhaust tips??? Acura can't be dumb enough to remove exhaust tips from their $150k Super car right?
