Even the integra type r didn't sell well until the used market.

Look at what cars make the most profits. Mdx, accord, civic. The fact is boring and reliable cars are the best sellers and money makers. Camry is another perfect example.

You can bash acura all you want but the market does not lie. These are the cars most people want. I blame consumers not acura. Are you gonna blame car companies for the death of the manual tranny also?

Its about brand image.

Make a Halo car that is capable of being one of the best and the rest of the lineup will increase in sales.

I'm pretty sure the MO of this poster is to simply waltz into a thread, say whatever is the most outrageous, opposing view possible and let the fireworks fly. Not once have I seen him carry on a civil, cogent argument.

^ he is right that the previews NSX was a money pit and it sounds like this one will be as well (even at $130K they might be losing money on each sale - I mean Toyota does on every $400K LFA). It would be very difficult to show that a money pit like the NSX brings in more sales.

How much money has Honda "invested" in money losing ventures like Hondajet and ASSimo? Talk about losing sight of your core values and core business. It is doubtful that Honda will EVER make money selling light jets or walking robots.

Makes a hell of a lot more business sense to build a true halo car, even if they do lose money.

All this does is reignite the debate over the value of a "halo" car.

That is true, the 1G NSX facility could do 25 car/day but only produced 5 per day. Honda also could not determine if the NSX had any impact on sales as well, the F1 program was determined to have brought in more sales.

That said, I believe that being built in Ohio and without Mr. Honda's oversight the 2G NSX will make a profit like the S2000 did.

This engine can generate power of 480 horsepower (est.). With this engine, New 2015 Acura NSX capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 sec (est).
so is the NSX going to be N/A or twin turbo?

i would think that a direct injected 3.7L (worked) motor plus 3 electric motors could produce the 480hp claimed.

LFA is a halo car...does this Acura Vaporcar even pretend to be one?

No comparison: LFA > Vaporcar...

By your definition, every manf. can drop 90% of the lineup and focus on their best sellers. and Germans can just go hide under a rock because their cars are not reliable.
I blame Lazy ass Americans for the death of manual. Everywhere else in the world still have big demand for sticks.

BMW should drop M, Mercedes should drop AMG and Audi should drop RS since they are not their best seller.

Simple minded people.

Would still love to know how much development time went into the 5.5L NA V10 and how close it was to being production ready. It sounds awesome.

For the life of me, why didn't Acura take this engine and slap it into the current concept and we could be driving it already. No need to add heavy battery/motors - just make the NSX as light as possible and call it a day.

Because Honda wants to advertise their new NSX as the Supercar that can get 30mpg...

In reality people who buy these cars don't give a rats ass about 30mpg. They will gladly give up 20 of the 30mpg for 50 more HP or 50 lbs lighter.

It's probably because Honda has always been trailing its competitors throughout the course of NSX R&D.

Because that engine would not suit the green image Honda is trying to establish. It would have been perfect when Honda was trying to make Acura into a Tier-1 brand.

Now whether going with the green image is good or bad, that's another matter.

^^^^^

Being "green" and having class-leading fuel economy won't give Acura an easier ride into the Tier-1 arena.

Class-leading fuel economy only works beautifully for the cheap, economy auto brands, but never for the expensive, luxury auto brands.

However, building great vehicles and powerful engines (across the entire Acura lines) will.

Honda can't even build a successful mainline hybrid, ala Insight and ILX hybrid fail. What makes them think HALO car buyer wants to buy a hybrid? You buy a hot car for bragging rights and because it looks sexy. It's more of an emotional trigger, not a rational one.

Porsche 918
McLaren P1
LaFerrari

Not saying the NSX is even meant to compete with them, but this tired argument of writing off the NSX because it uses electric motors needs to stop. All three are considered exceptional cars, and guess what, all three use some form of a hybrid EXACTLY in line with what the NSX will have. Hell, it's even rumored that the next GT-R will be a hybrid in line with the NSX!

Love hybrids or hate them, they're here to stay, and I applaud the various companies for trying to actually make them fun. Everyone seems to be so stuck on IMA and how it didn't even come close to living up to expectations. I agree, and apparently so does Honda since it's now dead and the new hybrid systems that they are replacing it with all seem to be pretty well received. Hell, even this forum's favorite punching bag in the RLX is getting good reviews with the new 3 motor hybrid system that is being adapted to be used in the NSX.

The new Accord Hybrids (both variants) are getting excellent reviews.

http://www.edmunds.com/honda/accord-...ison-test.html

Took a few attempts but Honda's new hybrid system is quite novel and unobtrusive for a hybrid. I had given up hops of Honda producing a decent hybrid but they did it this time.

+1, so true. MotorTrend included the NSX in the tech review of those four cars since all those cars (Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Acura) all used similar approaches with a hybrid drive-train.

Big Deal. Chevy gets over 30 MPG out of a Honkin 6.2 liter V8 in the vette.

Do not bring up LS series V8s have been easily putting out 30mpg in Corvettes and F-bodies for 15+ years
