Replacing TSX deck with after market unit

Ok my 6 disk head unit locked up and wont play CD's and wont eject them. I called the dealer and since my car is no longer under warrenty they said it was $85 to diagnose the problem when i know the deck is bad. And then another 350 to replace it and a 2 week waiting period to get the new deck in once they get the old one out.

Here is the catch the service advisor told me that i could just replace it with an after market deck. It just wont be able to be controlled through the navi screen or hear the navi though the speakers which is fine with me. The thing is I dont want to lose my lil pocket and i think the car would look retarded with 2 decks in it. Is there a company out there that make a fiber glass piece or some kind of bracket to put a new after market deck in the same location as the stock one? Or am I going to have to get this done custom?

You are gonna have to get it done custom. There's not enough TSX volume to get Metra to make a $100-150 kit with heater controls in it. They wouldn't sell enough of them.

If you're in SD, see what La Jolla Audio would charge.

metra makes dash kits for other cars that mimic the original dashes. So if they made one for the TSX, it would be the whole center piece in which the stock deck, A/C buttons, etc.. currently reside. The metra kid basically adds a regular DIN-sized opening for an aftermarket deck. Making it easy to just replace the dash kit with the Metra, then install any aftermarket CD player.

One option for you, since there is no Metra kit available, is just to have one custom installed in the pocket above the "not an ashtray". I've seen other members install aftermarket units and dvd player in there.

see thats the thing i dont want my new deck to go there. I want it to go where the factory one is. But what you are telling me is that the deck is physically attached to the navi. But that is the opposite of the the acura service techs told me. They have replaced just my radio once before. So i think i can just slide the radio portion our correct? and then have a custom kit made to just take up the excess space left of from the deck. Am I right on this or am i way off. I think it would look extremely tacky to have 2 decks in a car and have one work and one not. And I dont want to lose my pocket above my it is not an ashtray thing. So am I able to do this or is it physically impossible?

Stoke, they are attached to the same plastic panel. They are seperate metal box modules that work independently, but they are part of the same plastic panel, per the service manual exploded diagram.

I agree about having two decks in the car.

You might just want to consider the two deck idea. You can just hook the other deck up using the AUX interface and Mp3 attachment kit. Probably run you about the same price, but you would add mp3 playing and XM control ability, along with keeping your steering wheel volume controls.

So I really dont see a problem here. Do you really care if the changer works? Just get yourself an iPod and an IceLink and call it a day
