Add a Woofer to the stock amp?

I want to know if anyone has ever hooked up a woofer to the stock amp in the CL. I have a 2002 CL-S and I have a 150 watt Audiobahn woofer sitting in my basement. I was just wondering if I would be able to hook it up to the stock amp. Thanks in advance.

I personally have not heard anyone do it, the stock amp can barley support the component speakers not alone a driver. If you want some bump, either go infinity bass link which has an internal amp or build your own combo of box, amp, driver. The key to success is clean and simple. this is what i did:

I agree, If you want bass but you wana keep the stock deck and speakers, you should probably go with a line converter. This will allow you to just add a sub with out really touching the stock system but adding alot of bass, besides which the stock amp is not a mono amp so like he siad it would not have enough power.

I have my two 12" subs and my 600watt amp tapped into my stock amp just to get a signal. You will need another amp like I have to actually power them.

Some amps have a line converter built in, but the easiest way is to use a seperate converter.
I added subs to my stock system.

I was wondering if his specific amp had a line converter built in and what kind it was because for some reason it is hard to get that stat looking at amps on the internet. I wana get one built in because Ive gone through 3 in the last year(wierd)

I had a LOC tapped into the stock amp, but I think my other amp already had one. I didn't realize it until I hooked it up. I plan on taking the other one out this weekend.

+1. you def do not want to hook up a sub directly to your stock amp. only thing you would use from the stock amp is the signal and remote turn-on wire to an external amp that is suitable for your sub.

Dont buy cheap ones. If your going to tap into the signal after the amp you need one that can handle higher power. Best bet is to tap into the signal before it goes to the stock amp.

Ive put an aftermarket sub on the stock amp, it powers it but not enough to actually hear the bass more than 3 feet away. Ive dont what most people hear have done and gotten a LOC with an aftermarket amp. It sounds great. I think all new amps today have LOCs built in.

I'm using a Scosche LOC from WALMART its lasted about 4 years and 3 different cars/amp setups. Only 12 bucks when I bought it.

I'm not good at audio; but a buddy of mine owns his own shop & showed me a piece (not sure what it's called) but it adds RCA's so that I can add my subs like normal. I don't know if that's what you guys are talking about; but when I get it done I'll post some pics.

Yep thats it. A line out converter (LOC) will tap into you exsiting speaker wire and give you a set of RCA's to hook to your amp. I have a line out converter mounted to the bottom of the rear deck and tapped off my rear left speaker. Advance Auto or any local parts store should have these things my friends and I nicked named "cool things". They clip onto the exsiting wire and allow you to attach another wire to the clip without cutting and splicing of your existing wiring. In the past I had alot of LOC give me a whine in my speakers and I needed a ground loop isolater, but this one had a seperate ground built in. Here's a link to the connectors I'm talking about.

I plan on doing this soon. Not really interested in messing with the stock system. I just want more bass like everyone else here. I'll be running one 12" MB Quart Reference sub with an Alpine M500 amp. Two reasons why I chose this amp. Matches the sub perfectly @ 2ohms and it has speaker level inputs so you can get the signal from the rear speakers wires. (before stock amp of course).

So make sure the amp you get goes with your sub. Your sub only need 150w so you should be able to find one relatively cheap. If it doesn't have built in signal level inputs. Just get a cheap LOC to go with it like everyone says. Shouldn't cost you more than $10 if you know where to buy. You'll also need to run power wire from the battery and don't forget to ground your amp.

Lol. Yeah I know its strange. Its kind of a inside thing with me and my close buddy. When we were growing up we used to have weird names for stuff so are parents couldn't figure out what we were doing. Long story short, it became a nickname between us. He calls my kid little boots. We enjoy it!

Is it fairly easy to run the power wire to an amp in the trunk? What guage - will 8 suffice? I really hate running 4 (did that in my Si a few years ago)..

the size of the power and ground wire you have is dependent on the amp you choose. an amp that draws less current, requires smaller wire. ideally, you'd want more wire than you're going to need, so you have less voltage loss.

I have a BOSS sub box from an RSX that goes into the spare tire location. I opened it up and has a 100w amp in it. Can this be hooked up to the stock amp? And where is the stock amp located?

Are you asking if the 100w amp can be wired into your current setup,or are you asking if the sub can be wired off your factory amp?

Don't even waste your time... If you want to add bass, add a worthwhile setup, not shitty equipment...

x2. stock amp is near the jack behind the felt upholstery. you dont need to access the amp to add a subs though.

I dont really want to add a big system, i already have all that in my garage from a previous car. I just had this bass box from an RSX which has a small 100w amp in the box itself. Just wanted to see if that could be added somehow

not sure who hooked that sub to your RSX, but you'll need an amp kit. you need seperate power and ground.

It can be added. If you know a little something about amps so you can tell us if the amp has hi level or low level inputs we can tell you exactly hook it up.

lol i dont have an RSX, i took this from a friend. RSX has this sub mounted in the spare tire out back. There are 4 wires at a plug going into it. Black Yellow Green and forgot the other color. The plug on the small amp has alot more wires on it. I might not even worry about it, doesnt fit in the trunk well anyways..
