In addition, I would have to pay Acura over $4K if I turn in my lease due to mileage overage and the turn-in fee, so I am very much limited to sticking with Acura for now.
Just buy out the Acura at lease end and sell it on Carvana.

I immediately had the same thought at the mention of pano roof for this car. As it is, it's one passenger away from weighing the same as the outgoing MDX.

The 4 cylinder has no room for a pano roof either. The fuel econ is already quite bad against the rest of the compact competition. I don't see a pano roof entering the conversation unless there is a significant upgrade in both the 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

If they want to keep bringing up the "precision crafted performance" part, they really need to tech it up by going full force into more aluminum or starting to use carbon fiber for structure. Not saying to turn a 50k sedan into 75k, but weight is clearly becoming a factor if they don't budge on engine changes. Partnering with GM for electrical stuff also means no hydride help anytime soon.

Making the A-spec/Type-S package a little more expensive but including weight saving changes might be something people are interested in. Now don't make it an expensive option like the 25k carbon on NSX, no one will want it.

We're about 3 weeks away from when they are supposed to arrive. Has anyone heard anything from their dealer about the first batch?

Just talked to my dealer of many yrs. He "should get" his "show and tell, Tiger Eye Pearl" model by the end of the month...maybe late 3rd week,
They were delayed. And he MIGHT get one or two of a few he was able to order. So, for his dist. the time frames to order have been pushed forward.

And, if you happen to live in the part of the country that gets lots of hail....often LARGE hail....kiss your pano roof goodbye...and then the rain, hail fill up the interior, now really
flooded out...and probably totaled. That's what I put up with year after year in my area. Luckily I've avoided being out during severe storms with hail...and virtually every storm
we have has hail....being retired helps...so I don't have to be out when it's bad.

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like a great idea in practice. In my case, I would have to sell some stock which would incur capital gains and income tax penalties in order to pay off the lease and own the car. I would have to see if it would be worth the financial penalty.

Contacted my dealer in WA today and placed my deposit.
  • 5 floor models + a demo unit coming early July, and 4 of which have been presold
  • The performance tire/wheel package is currently not available to order from Acura with no ETA either, he said expect to see this in August with a build time of 8-12 weeks but no promises either
  • Expected to sell at MSRP, only MDX's are seeing markups here from demand

This would suck seeing that's what I ordered when I put my deposit down back in Mid-April.

Dealer in suburban Chicago has 10 on order, 5 pre-ordered. They don't know the color combos (according to them) so the current holders get first right of refusal. I don't think he said they'll be marked up, but not likely marked down.

I just don’t see today’s market paying over list for a me-to sports sedan.

I keep hearing mixed things about mark up. Type S has been made here in the states multiple years. I don't see them marking it up. A lot of people ask sales people that didn't even know when the car would be coming in. I wouldn't even ask the dealer about mark up until the vehicle is actually there. Don't want to put the idea in no ones head that wasn't thinking about it before.

At the end of the day it's a Type S. Not freaking Bugatti Chiron. Dealers can get greedy and charge a few bucks more for 6 months and then what! I am 100% it will become just like any other car and you can buy one without nay markups.

Dealers will be dealers... My local honda dealer has 2 Civic Type-R's with a 15K market adjustment add on.

Ordered Type S back on 4/16 with HPT package. Just got text from dealer. "You are in August Production."

Confirms what we've heard. HPT packages will be built beginning in August. Hate that I have longer but really want the Y spokes.

Good to know. I'll be in the same boat too. I guess we'll get a few months out of them before having to switch to winter tires/wheels.

Very true but I hate having to wait even longer. I don't understand why honestly. Every Type S out there for the media, etc... has the Y spokes. Why not produce them from the start?

I did ask the dealer is my MY will be 2021 or 2022. No response.

Y spokes are standard for Canadian models. Perhaps they used them all up for Canadian batch of cars.

It's incredible how some will be picking up there cars in August and then the '22 models come out the next month?!! I don't think I buy that, especially because of the semiconductor shortage.

In the "Canada Type-S" thread, a member said that since the local dealership he ordered from was only allocated 2-3 units of 2021 TLX Type-S, so the dealership put in his order as a 2022 TLX Type-S.

I personally would wait for a 2022 model. Nothing like paying full sticker to only have last years model 45 days later. Chances are by waiting you will pay less for the 2022 model year and if they haven't sold out all their 2021's those will be discounted even more. Seems a win/win for just waiting another couple months. Heck I held onto my original type S for many extra years waiting for a new type S to be released. I get wanting to get your hands on it fast but waiting what amounts to maybe a couple months for a 2022 model seems well worth the delay. Plus you get to see if any odd problems crop up when people finally start driving the car on a daily basis. Not sure I have even seen a gen 2 TLX on the roads in my parts but the dealers lot was loaded with them.

this is all also under the assumption the model 22 year will be in “September” especially with the semi conductor shortage. September could always be the standard and Aspec models and the type s could always be a summer release meaning the ‘22 type s could be next June. Acura hasnt announced or stated as far as I’ve seen that the type s going forward will always release along side the standard models going forward.

I believe at one point they released the TLX for the next model year in June the year before. I would expect the 2022 model year to be out in the fall of 2021 (sept/oct). They got such a late start on the 2021 release they probably should have just designated them all as 2022 models to be fair. It that was the case it would be more palatable to pay full sticker to get one of the first ones since you have the current model year for 14 to 16 months.

Got off the phone with one of the other dealers in the area (not the one with my preorder). FWIW, they said 1300 available for MY2021. 2022 will be out in Sept/Oct.

Demo unit coming in 2 weeks with 2 others available for sale. Aren't able to pick colors from the factory, only able to switch with other dealers.

He also mentioned that Acura originally intended for Type S to account for 25% of sales.

Yeah I don't know why Acura needed to highlight the 2k allocation for MY21. Type-S is not and never will be a limited production car, on the other hand, I think it is fair to say there will be a limited-run PMC Type-RS down the road.

Given the current split in the base car would guess maybe 10/15% as it will be a reach item as far as typical TLX pricing.

Acura is trying real hard to hype up the demand for the TLX Type-S, which judging from the non-existing waiting list, has failed to create the initial rush that everybody is dying to buy one.

I'm just annoyed with the idea that dealers might not be able to order what they (customers) want. Judging by what's currently on the lot (mostly white, black, gray), it might be hard for those of us wanting a different color.

Might be a bit market specific. I was asking around on May 22nd and most dealers said they only got 3-6 (varied by dealer) and they were all sold out. Found two that said they had 1 and 2 left respectively, one had some markup and would only take non refundable deposits, the other would do MSRP and a refundable deposit. I put a deposit down with the MSRP Refundable option as they promised my money back if I drive it and change my mind. Not 100% sold on it yet but if I drive it and it impresses me enough over the other things I've been checking out in the meantime I may take the plunge.

I used a different email address to inquire with those two dealers again a few weeks later to see if their stories were the same but both mentioned all cars are sold, I don't think there is / was CTR type hype behind it but clearly it had a lot of buyers ready to go the moment it became available and some are happily paying markup apparently unless they managed to get the one dealer to fold.
