TLX Type S release thread; prices, trims and availability

As requested and suggested, a new thread for the Type S in regards to release date, price, availability (by region, dealer, state, etc.). Old thread has 29 pages of 90% rambling about BMW/Audi and irrelevant information. Please only post on this thread about Type S. This is not a thread to compare with other brands. Keep it clean so we don't need to sort through another 1000 messages of useless information.

Thanks

Just got back from my test drive. I second the above. The car is extremely competent. Transmission in sport+ can be mistaken for PDK. Shifts are lightning quick. Overall, the car is spot on and exactly as it should be. The dealer did flip the script and said $10K markup after saying there wouldn't be one. But on the positive note, test drive was as promised, no bs, no pressure, just drive and have fun. Very, very good sports car.

I am afraid this one will just be the old one reborn, but thanks for the effort!

Question...have any of you put a deposit down for a Type S? If yes, how much, when did you do it and did you see your order sheet?

I filled out an order sheet on 4/16 and paid $1k deposit. On the buyers order, the dealer listed 2021 TLX Type S HPT and the colors I requested which were Apex Blue & Ebony Interior. He stated in the system there were only 2 options for the Type S. One with High Performance Tire and one with regular tire. Also, my buyers order that my price would be MSRP + Accessories. He stated that the zone rep accepted my order sheet even though we were passed the deadline for pre-orders. Said no vehicles being shown on order status yet but said that could change on 5/20 after embargo so we will see!

My dealer told me to wait till May 20th on pricing and then to put in a deposit. I'm debating between the black with red interior or the blue with ebony interior. Also, my dealer told me they expect the Type S in by the first week of june to book test drives. In Canada so Im guessing the US will get the demo versions before we do.

Not sure where you reside but if you don't have a deposit in you are not getting that first allocation. They have all sold out for Canada. Nothing updated for next release.

As said the only options are tires. What are & how much are the "Accessories? Can the dealer add a lot of buff & puff stuff for a ADM?

It's a great question. Unsure at this point. I'll be curious to see what accessories are available? No matter what...there won't be any stupid pin stripes added. LOL! I'm guessing wheel locks and other crazy items they try and upsell.

Correct. I missed the boar on the first allocation - what he told me is once Acura releases the price and specs sheet on the 20th, they will open up orders for the next allocation - which would be like summer delivery. Lets wait and see I guess.

In one of the first look videos, one of the reviewer mentioned a carbon fiber package that adds the carbon fiber spoiler, rear diffuser, and interior pieces(the reviewer also mentioned wood veneer being an option for the interior pieces).

It also sounds like those will all be dealer-installed, so it would simplify the ordering/build process.

Read that someplace. If its real CF it will be pricy. Some exterior real full carbon packages for 4 door cars run about $5,000. Expect if its dealer installed he can always refuse to have them put on if its too much money. Many Chevy dealers were pulling stuff to get some major markups when the C8 came out.

Would not be an issue for me am not a CF fan.

Is there going to be a performance exhaust option? Sounds a little quiet from the driving video's being posted.

I actually love the carbon fiber look, it's all personal choice but some cars have the wood inlays and the CF look is way better. To each his own. As for dealer installed options I don't really like them. Factory installed is way better from my experience. Acura at least puts the same factory warranty on dealer installed options so there is that. As for price I personally would wait till next year. I waited on my 08 type S and got over 7k off the sticker which at the time was around 38K. Car prices have gone crazy this past year. I doubt Acura will discount the car more than $500-$1000 this year. More likely they will want full sticker (or more) depending on the dealer.

My 07 type S had the carbon fiber and it was a lot better looking inside than the non-type S variant of the TL. Full disclosure I have the CF in my current car.

If they run the fake sound through the speakers you will not worry about that.

The first allocation will probably arrive in June, possibly July. Next batch will probably be in the fall. Who knows, everything is messed up these days.

Did anyone pay attention to the real OTD pricing of the special built Red TLX? Wonder if it has an ADM & how long that lasted till the 500 cars were sold. Could be an indicator for a limited production TLX Type-S introduction.

By fall, the TLX-S will no longer be the 2021 MY TLX-S. It will be the 2022 MY TLX-S, alongside all the 2022 MY 4-banger TLX sedans.

I understand what you're saying but can the '21 TLX Type S only enjoy a model year run of just 3 months?!!!

Either way, Acura is in a pickle when marketing the 4 cyl. against the 6 cyl. this Fall, unless the semiconductor shortage has also kicked the '22 4 cyl. TLX closer to Jan.

Trying to remember. Did Acura jump to the next model year early when they killed the Beak? Think if its a summer car they should go to 2022 otherwise they are possibly screwing their customers down the road when they sell it being a model year older. The car before my current one was ordered in April 2017 delivered in June 2017 & was titled as a 2018. Was a new generation.

I think that chip shortage only affects the number of new vehicles coming out from factories. Especially that the brand new TLX has only launched a year ago, there will be minimal changes other than minor revisions and bug fixes, and therefore chip shortage won't likely affect the release date of the 2022 MY TLX.

Let's say Acura has 1,000 sets of chips for TLX production, it can move on to manufacture 1,000 units of 2022 MY TLX according to schedule, instead of 1,000 units of 2021 MY TLX. (Limited) Factory output remains the same, only 2022 MY comes out instead of 2021 MY.

Yes I will because I hate that. I always disable pumped in Engine noise in all my cars that have that. It's dumb.

Especially that this is specifically tagged as a sports car. I would love the sound to be both internal and external to the car. Not just processed crap. That's why valves are present, to calm things down at night.

Acura "officially" tags the TLX as a "Sports Sedan." NOT a sports car.

Yes, Acura already has been putting those on the A-Spec version.....side, front, and back trims. So, it will be like Acura always does...most likely,
be an Accessory dealer installed....not ordered from the factory. About the only thing I've known that is 'optional" is the paint color...charged
at $500 usually.

The optional tires come with the "Y spoke" optional wheels. From the factory. I'm sure the dealer could handle that also. But, the price would be much higher,
I'm guessing.

Does anyone else kind of like the Tiger Eye color? It's ....yellowish but also not. Currently have a CBP 08 Type S, so it sort of reminds me of that, but much more flashy...I think.

I'm conflicted, will have to see it in person. Disappointed red interior isn't offered w/ the Tiger Eye OR Gray color. Ugh, why?

edit: Tiger Eye, whoops.

It is a great color-was offered for two years on the Accord Coupe and I have seen it in person. It is different but I like that-everyone seems to be driving a silver, grey, white or black car so having a rare color and a bit of exclusivity works for some.

Acura has put out the TLX as the next years model in april or may one of these past years as I recall. I fully expect the Type S release will be designated as a 2022 model. I know if I was buying one I would not want it to be last years model 4 months after buying it on the first month it's out. Heck it's only about 4 months away from 2022 models being released.

Acura color combo's have always been bad. No silver in the type S, why? Odd ball colors like tiger eye but no silver makes no sense. More color options for the interior on the base model as well. After having the blue A-Spec I realized it was to much flash for me.

Think that color was Kinetic Blue Pearl on the 7/08 type S. Rare color back then. That car in a manual with sub 100k miles has ridiculous resale.

Better off waiting for both selection & price.

That's my plan. If I like what I learn about the type-s, I'm hoping that by this time next year the hype will be over, dealers will have somewhat returned to sane pricing, more color options will be available, and a reasonable deal can be had. I jumped on the early-adopter train with my 2001 CL-S and don't regret it, I got my money's worth and lots of enjoyment from that car for 21 years (sold it last weekend). I'm enjoying my 2021 4-cylinder Tech which will have low miles and decent trade-in/resale value by this time next year.
