Im still reserving judgement on it til I drive one. No Acura dealer here for some unknown reason so will have to wait til Im out of town. Someday I will have to replace my TL Type S.
It seems like a good chassis with capable suspension but there'd be things I'd like to see re-engineered on the chassis

1) Decrease the front wheel distance from the firewall which appears to have been done purely for esthetics. That added structure not only the material for the extension but since the distance was further hence more bending moment and needed more rigidity in that structure as well. That could result in less mass as well as more rigidity. The 3G was and still is a beautiful design today despite the front door to front wheel distance which worked well from a overall packaging and styling point of view. It would also benefit the front/rear weight distribution.

2) Enlarge the rear seat area, realize it's a sports sedan but alot of people in that market use the rear seat for adults occasionally.

Also have not driven one but don't plan on it, planning to keep my 3G for quite a while.

That's definitely good news. Based purely on completely unscientific maths ... hopefully a tuned Type-S can get somewhere in the high-3s/low-4s 0-60 range, and the quarter mile in the low to mid 12's. Did they mention what tune and what mods (if any)?

Upon closer inspection, a CTR turbo swap plus FBOs.

That is a pretty big jump in performance. Dodge R/T Scat Pack +200lbs give or take over the TLX-S requires 485BHP/475LBFT to make Zero to 60 mph: 3.9 sec (roll-out) & Standing ¼-mile: 12.3 sec @ 115 mph. Takes more & more power to get smaller & smaller gains as you get up to these numbers.

Not so great then. With those mods, I'd suspect the car is making in the mid-300wHP range. Probably about what the Type-S will make with a Stage 2 tune from Hondata or the other tuner company. Those times are basically running the same as a stock S4 in "real world" conditions. Still, there's hope that a broader powerband could make a noticeably difference in performance compared to the 2.0T 4-popper. Hopefully a tuned Type-S can at least overtake the stock S4, but I doubt it will ever have a shot at a stock M340i without a turbo swap. I really do hope we're pleasantly surprised and somehow, Acura made this thing stout enough to put down 450+wHP on 93oct.

I believe it puts down 336whp on 93 and 364 on e30. Total cost of the build was just under 4k

Yep, appears that it does. I think it also has massaging seats too, which would be nice.

This will be Acura's flagship so for sure it will have all the bells and whistles.

The seats are quilted for sure but jury is still out on the massaging feature. Not sure if a massaging feature would add significant weight but if Acura is paying attention to all the weight complaints for the TLX Type S, it's a candidate for being left out.

The 2 cars have nearly identical 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers so it makes sense.

After realizing that the subject road is about 30 minutes from me, I reached out to the dude who put this together. Not sure when but, I’ll be doing a similar run with my A-Spec just see how a stage 2 does versus the CTR and hopefully the Type S. Stay tuned.

Not surprised by the outcome at all. The 1G TLX is supposed to be ever so slightly faster.

Turned out as expected. With some of the banter from 4G fans as well as the disrespect dished to the 1G TLX 3.5, I never came across a stock TL that I couldnt take down decidedly with my 19 3.5 PAWS. Had a much harder time with Accord 6-6s to be honest. ..and the 21 A-Spec is really only a reflash away from dispatching both.

Hoping to coordinate a trip to Island dragway instead. I've grown out of trips to Mexico.

Hooked up with a NJ 10G Accord group on FB recently; will probably coordinate a track event with them.

My 2.0T 6MT is quicker than the 2.0T TLX. But the 2.0T 10AT Accord is quicker than both. Driver of that 4G TL didn't know how to launch the car. I've driven the 3.7 6MT and it's a very fast car. Also, you can tell at 7:32 minute mark that it has heavy blue smoke from the tailpipe, indicative of oil burning that 3.7 was notorious for. It's possible that his driving skills are OK but that the car has lost compression and is not as quick as it used to be.

I'm closer to Etown than Island but it's unfortunate that they're no longer around for drag racing. Island is literally a backwoods dragstrip. Staff is friendly and accommodating, track is fairly well kept AND they're nowhere near as busy and Etown...that last point meaning I no longer have to pay $30 and get only one run before my day is over.

The best part of that video was the aerial view of the three cars side-by-side. The really shows how much bigger the 2G TLX is compared to the 1G, it actually looks slightly bigger than the TL. That was my impression the first day a Type-S appeared at my dealer. I really hadn't paid much attention to the 2G TLX, waiting (im)patiently for the S. In my mind I was still thinking 1G size TLX, so I was really surprised. Wait! This thing's as big as my TL!!.

Although the new TLX is heavy, the presence is undeniable!

Not sure what weight it adds but I suspect its fairly little relative to the car. Having just gotten massaging seats for the first time recently it's worth whatever little weight it adds. It's pretty nice on a trip to turn the massage on with several massage option programs. My seats are very comfortable but if you have that option, you will use it along with your passenger. Maybe it adds 10 pounds. Years back I bought what was a performance snowmobile at the time and didn't get reverse because it added about 10 pounds and I was worried about the performance effect. Huge mistake. That little extra weight didn't affect the performance to any measurable effect but I really wish I opted for it. You probably don't miss massage if you don't/never have it though. I would dismiss it right away in the past but not anymore.

Once Acura finally comes out with the next gen ILX with a type S version that has the same engine as the TLX that will be a good mix. It will happen, just when is the question since they will have a type S of every model. in the next year or two.

Definetly will get the massaging seats but looks like air suspension may have been axed.

Looks like Sam will finally be adding dragy afterall.

I am going to incorporate Dragy in my videos moving forward, I will record the entire thing since draggy allows you to do that. I will also stop adding comfort mode drags, just straight to drag and roll in full sport mode.

This should be interesting. I got into it with an Explorer ST out west and it didn’t go well for me. Colorado’s high elevation didn’t help me much either.

While I do have some higher hopes for the MDX-S, unfortunately, it will become another victim of roasting. It will use the same TLX-S drive-train and I'm pretty sure the power figures are the same. We already know what the TLX-S puts down so It won't be as shocking for an SUV weighing in at 4600 LBS to under perform and cost perhaps 70K+? If dealerships are willing to mark up the TLX-S, they sure as hell will do the same with the MDX and in a world filled with SUV / CUV, it's a no brainer.

On a side note, I am excited to see the return (possibly) of the Integra but come to terms with disappointments because Jon Ikea will butcher another home run of a vehicle.

He’s pretty clear as to what the Type S is AND what it isn’t….I generally agree with the points made.

Some of us just have to move in from Acura’s buildup promo for this vehicle.

Does anyone find it strange that Motor Trend still hasn't published an instrumented-test review for the Type S? Seems kinda late at this point.

Was Motor Trend the one that quoted the 7 sec 0-60 for the 2.0 TLX? I expect the numbers for the Type S to be worse than Car & Driver then.

Yup it was MT. Although they can be pretty wonky with their instrumented tests. IIRC, they once said the IS300 was quicker or as quick as an IS350, despite having a significant power-to-weight disadvantage. With Edmunds getting a 4.8 sec and C&D a 4.9 sec for the Type S (roll out included), it's safe to say the Type S is a high-4's 0-60. Just curious what MT ends up getting.

If the 2.0 TLX got 7 sec, then I'm guessing MT comes up with 6 sec for the Type S! LOL

Road Trip to the California Coast (Acura NSX Type S Reveal, Wine Country Visit)

AZ's 500K mile Legend Tyson purchased a Type-S and went on a road trip to Monterey for the NSX Type-S reveal
LOL when he spots that 4G amongst the exotics in Monterey.

Hope MotoGP returns to Monterey one day. Was there for bike week in 2012, it's very cool all around Monterey with all sorts of activities related to the race.
