Bricked TLX??

I'm not really sure how this happened but my car will not respond. It's been sitting in the driveway for 2 months. Just last week I popped open the trunk with my remote and it worked. Now the car won't respond at all
- Won't respond to key fob at all. Fob flashes with a red light. Tried replacing battery and also the second fob. Still nothing
- Won't unlock car if I walk up to it and use the touch sensor
- I have to manually open the door with the key.
- Power door locks do not work when I physically press them on the driver side controls
- Trunk button inside car does not open trunk
- Trunk button outside the car does not work
- Front lights/brake lights do not work when manually turned on
- Emergency lights button does not put flashers on
- Push button start does not respond. Car does not even go into accessory mode

I'm baffled. It's like I have a bricked car. Can't imagine it would be the battery because it doesn't even go into accessory mode and I can't even use the fob to get into the car.

Any ideas?

Why would it not be the battery? This sounds exactly like a car with a very flat battery. Why not check the voltage to confirm? It takes all of about 1 minute to do so rather than speculate on other more complicated reasons.

Agreed, my thoughts exactly.

I suppose I've never encountered a battery this dead before where I couldn't get into accessory mode or even get power locks or trunk to open. I'll have to check it out.

Nope. But I bought it from an Acura dealer 18 months ago and it "should" have had a new battery.

I took it out for a spin 3 weeks ago. Last week I popped open the trunk and was all good. So just seems odd the battery suddenly died with no other warning. Maybe I left the light on...

I'll have to go buy a multi-meter to test it out and see. I hope that's the issue since it'll be an easy fix.

new battery doesn't mean jack.. you 'could' have a small parasitic draw causing it to drain faster than usual but the truth of the matter is batteries just go out over time. If you don't have a tender on it after not driving for extended periods of time, don't expect them to be available to drive without replacing.

FWIW the OEM battery Acura and Honda uses is massive junk. I've had them die on me as early as 2 years, and I've never had them last more then 4. Most crap out within 3 years for me.

Every car has parasitic draw and Acuras are notorious for eating up batteries quickly on cars that don't get driven.

Agree with the dead battery folks. Sitting around is hard on them. AGM batteries, in my experience, do not tend to recover well from being deep cycled, either (I'm assuming yours is AGM...).

Let us know how it works out.

A battery can be as dead as a dead cockroach. Believe me.... my bricked 2001 Camry can confirm!

I had my car parked at the airport for 2 weeks. We get back and it starts right up. We drive 45 minutes at highway speed and I stop at a bank for 10 minutes. Go to start the car and the battery is dead. Can't even jump start it with cables and a battery from a Silverado. Tow truck gets there and hooks up his little Li-ion jump starter and it turns right over. Next stop was Autozone and a new battery. Honda/Acura OEM batteries are junk.

If you are going to let you car sit for 2 months you should think about a smart charger/analyzer.

Interesting, I keep seeing quotes like, "Honda/Acura OEM batteries are junk." Definitely not my experience. When I bought my 2001 Accord back in 2012 it had a four-year old "Honda 100-Month battery" in it with a date stamp of March-2008. That battery lasted until January of 2018; two freakin' months shy of 10 years, and oh by the way, that means 118 months.

In my experience, Japanese cars kill batteries fast. Especially Jap Lux brands. RDX's 100 month battery lasted two years. Replacement was free!

Honda/Acura batteries can be hit or miss. I went through 4-5 batteries in my 2006 MDX and have gone through 1 acura battery in my 2007. In my old accord the factory battery lasted 6 years. In my 4G TL the factory battery died in 3 years. 3G TL has had OEM batteries fail every 2 years until I went over to AGM batteries. Overall it hasn't been the best but an AGM battery hopefully keeps replacements away for a while.

Battery is most likely dead. Replace it and check her out.

The heat in this part of TX can be hard on battery longevity. Autozone even has a battery especially designed for hot areas. But batteries can be hit or miss. When the battery starts to give signs that it might be at its end of life, better to just swap it out and have peace of mind that it won't leave you stranded. Pretty easy to DIY an Acura battery swap. I changed mine right in the parking lot at Autozone, used their tools. My wife's Mini Cooper requires the car to be 'programmed' to tell it a new battery has been installed. $300 for a new AGM battery!

One thing I forgot to mention above, I took the car to my local Acura dealer. They checked the battery and it tested good. They even gave me a slip of paper that said as much. Total BS. The battery was bad, but because the test showed good they would not honor the warranty. That is how I ended up at Autozone and after replacing the battery the car started strong and has been fine every since. That was a year ago. And I still hate Acura service.

This was my experience to a T, except I ended up at Costco instead of Autozone because it was cheaper: https://acurazine.com/forums/first-g...titors-981171/

Sad that the cost of a battery has lost them business from myself, my friends, and family. Pennywise and pound foolish I suppose.
