Headlight question
Headlight question
I think the headlights are super bright and with the highbeams on its like daylight @ night. However, I do feel the low beams seem to be pointed a little low or maybe dont reach as far down the road as they should. Does anyone think the headlights are pointed down too low? I searched the forum to see if anyone inquired about this and didn't find any results.

stuff the trunk with heavy objects like bricks and metal weights.
the car will adjust to the load and make the headlights raise a bit.
obviously adding more weight in the back to raise the head lights.

Mine are good although I've had 2 cars in the past month pull off to let me pass on the back road near my house. I have a 7 mile stretch that is up/down/up/down, a lot. The car in front of me has their cab lit up like noon time repeatedly. I suspect they think I'm flashing them or something. On level/flat it's not an issue.

I think the headlights should swivel around corners! Its a safety thing and more importantly pretty cool. My 05 RL and many bmw and lexus and such offer it. they should incorporate it into the jewel eye headlights!
I don't think the adjustment info is in the manual but there's a previous thread where EE4Life provided links to access that info:

My wife's Mini does this, but the lights don't swivel, they just turn on an extra set of LEDs that point to the right or left side of the car. It is very well thought out. When you go in reverse, both sides come on. When you are below 20 mph (I think) one side only comes on when you turn in that direction. If you are stopped at an intersection, you can turn the wheel just slightly and it will light up that side. Very useful and the way they implemented it, not very expensive. One of my favorite features of her car. In general the man-machine interface on that car is very well thought out.
If you adjust your low beams higher, you're going to have some pissed off people in front of you, and in oncoming traffic. When I'm behind someone on level roads, IMO the cutoff is about perfect- just below their rear window which avoids blinding them in their rear view mirror.
On a similar note, I despise those fake aftermarket HID / LED headlight bulbs so many are installing in vehicles. Most of them are just bright and obnoxious with no good focus or cutoff.

can be found in the owners manual.
as the owners manual is CHOCK full of information regarding owning the TLX
The headlights do have a very sharp cutoff so I think it's a fine line with not getting the bright LED lighting into oncoming traffic vision. It does take some getting used to from older headlight technology.
My 2010 RL had swiveling lighting for cornering - I live in a dark, semi-rural area with few streetlights and no sidewalks - now that it's getting dark early I am missing that capability. I don't know that the RLX has anything equivalent either...

This is the same debate form HID days as well. I believe this is because modern HID/LED headlight designs allow for a much cleaner sharp cutoff that defines the beam pattern. Most of us came form Incandescent and Halogen days where the beams were not as defined and diffused easily and thus appears to scatter higher. My first TL (2004) was first car with HIDs and this was a common complaint. I had headlights adjusted up, but have done so since. Clearly the auto makers are following the regulations and are projecting the beams where they need to. In a few years more and more cars will have auto high beams and this discussion will fade ;-)
