New Owner with Question about Washers
Hiya gang! I don't post much on here but have been here for a few years. I am currently with a 3G TL which is Acura #6.
When the 4G came out I posted that I would not be owning as I thought it was butt ugly. Well last weekend I took my 07 in for service and checked out the new 4G's. OMG - I thought that was ugly? Ok - the shield is a bit large but it looks ok on some colours.
Soooo - I took the plunge and on Friday I will be picking up my new 09 TL SH-AWD Tech package in Palladium with black interior.
I do like the looks of the car except for 1 little thing. The squares on the front bumper look a bit out of place. Of course they are there for a reason to cover up the headlight washers.
Which leads to my question. I didn't actually take note of this since I didn't test drive the car. But - when washing the windscreen does this automatically wash the headlights too? Or does one have to turn on a separate swtich to wash the headlights?
Cheers!

"09 TL SH-AWD Tech package in Palladium with black interior." - felt the same when I 1st saw the 4G. but the Palladium was the 1st color I began to like the car in. So what sold you on the car? tech? or the drive?
Can't say it was the drive - I didn't test drive. The tech - sort of - but I have a nice tech package on my current 07.
I pretty much get a new Acura every 2 or 3 years. This one will be my 7th Acura. Ya - I'm a fan. My current one is 2 years old, I saw the new TL and actually I really like the looks.
The big seller was that my dad really loves my current TL. He wants a new car and so I figured - give him mine and I get a new one.
Same thing that sold me on the iPhone. I had an iTouch - and my nephew rang me from Australia at Christmas and was asking about my iTouch. So I gave it to him for Christmas and that meant I had to replace it. So got the iPhone as a replacement.
Hmmm... I have a strange way of thinking don't I!
hehe

I just picked up my 09 TL AWD last friday. I haven't had a chance to try the headlight washers but I know there is a button right beside the VSA button. So you can press that button. It also says this in the manual:
The headlight washers can be
operated at any time by pressing the
headlight washer button located next
to the steering wheel column. The
headlights must be turned on to use
this button. In addition, the headlight
washer operates without pressing
the button at the first time you turn
on the windshield washers after you
turn the ignition switch to the ON

I had headlight washers in my previous cars and for me, they didn't do much.......I could see them as being useful in a truck or SUV that go off-road a lot and get dirty, but they seem totally useless in an urban sedan.

Generally they are used to keep the lens performing at optimum conditions; dirt or debris on the lens can cause the light pattern to distort and cause discomfort or visibility issues for oncoming drivers
I recall some time ago reading about HID/Xenon stds. in Europe.. that's why the cars equipped w/ Xenons self level and have washers. Does Canada require washers for all headlights or only Xenon/HID systems?

I agree with Pete. Had them on my Cooper S. When there was a light mist and I single swiped the windshield, the headlight sprays would trash the whole front fender. I had to rinse it off as soon as I could so the finish would not be damaged. If there is a separate switch for the headlights, that would be great.

This I am not 100% sure on but pretty much every car has it as standard equipment now up here. It helps in the winter because nothing is worse then driving on a 400 series hwy. and running out of washer fluid. The amount of salt and sand they use in the winter is mind blowing not to mention that liquid de-icer crap it just sticks to the window
