I don't know if this is the right place to post this question?
I have a 2012 Acura TL. The battery was starting to fail. I could tell because every once and a while it would slow crank. But the replace battery warning never came on.
After testing it, AAA put in a new battery on 12/29. Now the car starts normally but the replace battery warning comes on... But only occasionally. Is this likely a false warning or could it be a warning about another issue like the alternator or starter?
Someone told me that it could be that the new battery needs to be “registered” with the car’s OBD system? Is that true?
There is a loose connection somewhere or the alternator has failed. My alternator died at 10years and 150k miles. It's good that there are new salvage car from where you can cheaply remove the original alternator and replace it in 1 hour.
Did you ever figure this out? I replaced my battery and alternator, and this message has been popping on and off randomly almost everyday on my 2012 TL

During my first attempts to programmatically disable the VCM (on the RDX), I somehow deleted the wrong line in the hex editor and after 5 minutes of driving the car begin showed me this message, so the possibility of problems with the ECM cannot be ruled out.

So interesting, such a bother to have a dash light on for this long 🤣🥲
I'll keep looking into it
