Some food for thought on why to consider the Nitto Motivo.
Just posted this in my picture thread but wanted to share here as well. My last 4 sets of tires have been...
Nitto Invo - 235x35x19
Conti DW - 235x35x19
Conti DWS - 235x25x17 (on stock wheels and current winter setup)
Nitto Motivo - 235x35x19 (on aftermarket wheels and current summer setup)
Let me say that they have all been good tires. I did feel that the Conti DW wore a little faster than the rest. But in comparison between the DWS and the Motivo here is my thought and a little background on driving conditions.
Both the stock size DWS and the 19" Motivo have been driven in the snow. Both worked well in the snow but I must say that the Motivo offered more traction/less slip in deeper snow. We had a snow day this year and we got 12" of snow and I had to drive my poor car that day... Drove slow and made it home without any issues. Keep in mind I saw countless people stuck on the side of the road. Here are a few pictures of my drive home that day.
Both tires have also been driven in warm weather and rain. The biggest differences for me are that the DWS feels squishier. I can only assume that some of this is because the DWS is a 45 series tire vs. the Motivo being a 35 series tire. If you are needing to make a decision on which tire, my first choice would be the Motivo. And the biggest reason is the noise level. The DWS is absolutely a louder tire. It's far from overly loud, but it is a louder tire.
Keep in mind that this comparison is on two tires with almost equal mileage. My Motivo's have 9,000 miles on them, which I just took off so I can order new wheels. The DWS, which I just put back on have around 7,500 miles on them.
Not a perfect review but these are my thoughts.

I just installed my second set of DWS's on the TL.
The first set lasted for 50,000 mi. I probably could have pushed them to 55,000, but I had a flat that could not be repaired.
It's amazing how much quieter and smoother brand new tires are compared to old worn ones. The old ones were evenly down to about 3/32 on all four. This tire, like most tires, does not ride very well near the end of its tread life.

In response to a few PM's I've received, thought I should post an update:
Purchased stock size DWS on 8/2/10 at 97,919 miles. Currently at 125,806 (9/24/12). Total miles on tires as of today=27,887.
Still have 5/32" to 6/32" tread left (prolly closer to 6/32") and all of the "DWS" still shows. Have been very happy with these tires. Treadwear is almost too good to be true. I have rotated them at every oil change which comes out to be about every 7500 miles.
I did finally notice flatspotting this month after the car sat for 14 days, but it was gone within 3 miles of driving. First time it's happened to me in over 2 years. I keep the pressure at OEM levels for a 6MT (35/32).

These tires showed extremely slow wear the first 28K-30K miles as you can see from the previous pics. However, the last 10K miles the wear rate picked up significantly and now at 39,262 miles (7/10/13) the wear bars are showing. I don't really have an explanation for the accelerated wear. They have been rotated regularly at approx 7.5K -10K intervals and they don't show any uneven wear.
The good news (and this is why going through a dealer [Sears in my case] helps) is that Continental honored the treadwear warranty over and above expectations and gave me a 35% customer appreciation discount on my new DWS Extreme Contacts. I'm at SEARS right now waiting for the new tires to be installed. With the discount, I'm getting the tires for $98.15 each. Can't beat that.
FYI, if these tires don't meet the 50K warranty, call Continental at 800-847-3349 and set up a claim before (or while) your car is at the shop. The CS agent put me on hold for a short time while she called Sears and verified the tire condition. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Very impressed with Continental's support in this issue.

$500 out the door (stem, disposal, no road hazard, lifetime rotation and balance). Total savings on the new tires was $210. Nice!!
Just leaving Sears now and heading off on a 250 mile business trip. Anxious to test out the new DWS' !!

As long as your alignment is in spec, I don't see why it would. I got mine through Ziegler Tire and had them mount/balance/align all the same day. I could see the tire being a slight stretch on the rim being a reason to void the warranty.
I really do like the ride of these tires, but they are very soft cornering.

Yup, piece of cake. Continental was great about it. FYI, Sears measured tread depth at 4/32" on the old tires (and 5/32" in a few places), but since the wear bars were showing, Continental didn't have any issues with giving me the discount.

FYI, apparently Acura has "modified" the rear camber spec for the 3G TL. See my post here:

I have Ziex 912's that wore out after less than 16,000 miles on a supposed 40k mile warranty. The ride has deteriorated noticeably which is why I gave the tires a closer look. The Michelin Primacy MXM4 are highly rated by Consumers so I am looking at them. I had bad luck with the OEM Bridgestones (26,853 miles) and the BG Goodrich (19,415 miles) but the Falkens are the worst yet. When I bought my TL new in 04, there were already complaints about premature wear on Bridgestones. You pay more for Michelin but the ride sounds better and the wear is better.

However, take a look at the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 A/S Pole Positions-- they are the top rated all-season UHP in Tire Rack's tests.
They've been on my TL for about 18K+ miles, including some autocrosses and aren't halfway worn yet. They wear evenly and don't seem particularly noisy, either, and are a few $$ less than the Primacy.
I had this issue with the OEM Michelin MXM4 Pilots (predecessor to the Primacy)-- they seemed to harden up and have less traction after about 25K miles. The darn things will last over 50K+ miles, though, if you can put up with them.

Big O gave me half off on the Michelin's as compensation for the premature wear on my Falkens. So far I like the Primacy's. So far they really ride nice and are really quiet. I also notice that Acura uses the Michelin as OEM on the new RLX. I will give a better report after I come back from a 1500 mile trip next week.

The DWS or the Kumbos??? I can't decided.
I have the DWS and got about 55,000, I want to try the Kumbos not to mention they are ~$30 cheaper per tire. But, I don't want to end up buying new tires in 40,000 mil.
Help!

Hey peeps - I have been very unhappy with my DWS due to road noise. Had them on for 30k mi now, of mixed driving. Did my first rotation after putting about 20km and my car was never the same. The noise resembles broken bearing but tech said it is due to effect of unever tire wear. This noise is driving me nuts and I am thinking of getting them swapped for a set of used Michelins. Wondering if anyone has similar thing to say.
Also, would my tires bought from Discount Tire in Nov 2010, be still covered under any kind of wtty?

Add me to the list of DWS fans. They were pretty unremarkable. Which is good. Not noisy, not busy, not slippery. Good wear--they still have good tread after about 18K miles. Just solid tires in my experience. Maybe your woow's west coast/east coast comparison above explains the difference (I'm in SoCal). I think the Contis flat spotted once on me, but the car hadn't been driven in several weeks. Today I drove the car for the first time in a two weeks and no flat spotting. It was never an issue while we were daily driving the car.

Check my posts buddy.....DWS might be good for some maybe people in West coast? But I had nothing but trouble with them.......Same issues as yours...noise, uneven wearing.....I have no issues with my car I owned it brand new too. It is the crazy tires and will never buy DWS simple.

Well, not exactly...
Hi All,
I need to replace driver side front sway bar. Dealer recommends to replace the both and ask for about $160 + tax. Where local repair shop ask for much cheaper amount. Is there any reason I should go with the dealer and also to replace both. I would appreciate any help and comments.
Thanks so much in advance.

There you go...for info on DWS performance....I would recommend you not to stand on something because you got 200+ discount from them for your new set of tires. You experience is not others...

I'm running the DWS as well (since January 2013), and this flat spotting issue is interesting... I experienced it during about the first six months of driving, a small issue that went away within a mile of getting the car in motion.
These last several months, I have not noticed any flat spotting at all; I wonder if it's because the tires have settled in now or have gotten stiffer from regular use? Either way, I was worried about it at first, but my concerns have gone away since. Helps to rotate regularly and align, as well as keeping tire pressure maintained, I guess.
Otherwise, the DWS is my favorite set of all-seasons so far! I've only run two other sets on my car so far (crappy Nankangs from the previous owner, and crappy Kumho Ecsta ASTs), and these blow them away.
Absolutely no traction problems in Texas rain and the ice storm a few weeks ago. Even took it to the drag strip and it performed above my expectations (was lucky enough to beat a 6MT TL in two out of three runs while barely losing the first; he was running stock-size Dunlop all-seasons)! Running 255/40/17 on stock rims.

It was never replaced dumbo...I asked that question assuming I might have to because thats one of the reason I found online causing the vibrations. I guess I have nothing to prove...I got PMs about your credibility from other folks here So save your time ....no one cares about what you type...you are not an agent you got sold out for small discount and talking as if your a tire expert which you are not.

Wow, stooping to name calling on Christmas day? You're earning yourself quite a reputation with only 137 posts. PMs you say? He's the same turd that doesn't have the balls to confront me directly...
Several of us have tried to help you, but you refuse to listen.
Enjoy those Generals. I'll be laughing my ass off when you're back on the forums with the same vibration issues.

Everyone's experience is going to be different. Just because you had one experience doesn't make it scripture, and that goes both ways. People have proposed solutions to the issue, offered explanations, and you only throw it back in their face.
It's very unfortunate that you have had a bad experience with DWS tires- a lot of people on this forum swear by them, so they are clearly quality tires. Not the only option out there, mind you, but very good according to the experience of many people here and elsewhere.
You don't have to agree with advice or explanations given to you. That's just a fact of life. But there is a difference between professional criticism and a personal attack. You either don't understand that difference, blurring them together into one, or you consciously chose to indulge in the latter. Either way, not cool.
Merry Christmas.

It hasn't come back for me yet, but even if it did, I wouldn't worry about flat spotting, since it presents no concerns for me and goes away during my warm-up drives. I know that these tires have really soft sidewalls, so that may also be part of your experience... Just swap out to a stiffer-sidewall tire and all will be fine!

Yes sir, Texas! Oddly enough, it's been driving great for me even during this month, which has been as cold as it gets for Texas (some 18-degree nights and rain/ice during the day as well).

C'mon man, no matter how bad your experience was with DWS tires was, or how many "PMs you got", there's no need to be juvenile.

Yeah it is extremely cool when someone seeking help and want different option...than DWS and looking for help. All the help nfnsquared doing was following me to every thread and trying to get me convince there is something wrong with my car? I care about my car and stand by it rather than some crazy love towards a Brand. It is sad you talk as others helping. Like how? Like nfnsquared? It doesn't matter Merry Christmas to you.

Whether or not he followed you around in other threads, I can't say- I haven't been on the lookout for this, I come to this forum to find info and move on. Because it's the internet, I don't really care to get embroiled in the personal vendettas people may or may not have with each other. What I do care about, though, is that the forum remains a place where people can have a civil discussion, because otherwise it becomes a flame pit where people can't find the kind of useful information they come here looking for.
As for my talk of "others helping", I'm not referring to this thread alone. There are some good opinions shared here, but I imagine you have looked elsewhere on the forums and used the "search" feature and have found useful information from various users. Don't get hung up on one user's opinion. If you have a problem of a user harassing you, that's something to talk to the mods about, since they can actually do something about that. There's just no reason to flip out, because that does nothing to solve whatever issues you're encountering.
As for the vibration issues, I can't speak to that point. For the sake of honesty, yes, I have EC DWS tires on my TL. I've never had a problem with them, but then again I'm not as particular about monitoring their performance as some people. I may or may not have that issue, who knows. I'm not looking to take a side in this issue- all I want is to be informed so I can make up my own mind, based on my own experience, as you and others have also done.
I mean no snarkiness with my comments, truly. I'm just saying that if you want to be heard, and have people respond in a respectful, informative manner, you must do the same. No reason to get upset, because after all- this is the internet.
Best holiday wishes to you and your family! I truly do hope you're able to figure out the tire issues you're having, and that users make the effort to contribute positively to what's being discussed. Good luck!

18 Degrees and single digit make a big difference. OK agree with the softer sidewall. Maybe DWS has improved....I placed my tires in 2009 when most don't talk about DWS here...I am not worshiping any tire for any reason. I just want the best if I pay to $. I payed nearly 900+ back then. Also I got my car with 2 miles on it and no accident. Everyone in the area points @ tires and Continental agreed too... accept for Mr DWS crazy here...nfnsquared
I posted hypothetical questions since people were pointing me different directions because of the whole vibration issue.

Since then, the problem has disappeared and was so minor, that it went away by the time I hopped on the highway for my commute to school (which is less than a mile from my house to the on-ramp). Even when I did experience flat-spotting, it didn't hinder my driving, nor take away from my overall good impression of the tires.
You may have a point about the potential change in the construction/materials of the tires from your set four years ago, to mine - my tires were produced the 36th week of 2012, so are still very fresh (and also cost less than $700 altogether from Discount... Crazy how much the price has gone down since you bought them! ). That's a big time period for Conti to make changes to improve (or make worse, if they've gone down in price)... But that's speculation on my part and we will never know.
In the tire hierarchy, I don't consider the DWS to be that expensive for what it offers; it was comparable in price to the shitty Kumho Ecsta ASTs I purchased from the dealership (the first full set I put on this car, and that I would steer everybody away from), and if these last longer than 20,000 miles (what the Kumhos did), then I'm a happy camper and will probably be a repeat customer.
Flat spotting is a prevalent issue with this tire, I believe most of us can agree with that. There will always be fans and critics for each product in the world. I've heard good things about the Nitto Motivo and Bridgestone Potenzas, and the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 looks to be a good choice too in the all-season category... All of these would be quality tires in my eyes. I'm no tire guru, but I went with the safe choice of Contis after researching, and couldn't be happier with them!
