What is this wire and why is it stripping?

So I opened my hood today and noticed something interesting. I saw that some wiring was coming apart. Not sure what the function of this wire is and what is connected to. I drew a red arrow to show what I'm talking about.

My questions are:

1) What is the function this wire?
2) What is it connected to?
3) Why is the wire stripping?

Thank you for those who can help me find a solution to this in advance.

You can buy grounding straps from auto parts stores too. Just measure how long you need it to be.

To make sure that the electrical parts on the engine have a negative current for operation. Unbolt the piece and replace it. I imagine that the Acura dealer will have one if you want an exact fit. Otherwise, any suitable ground strap will do.

You can see the two bolts holding the ground.
if you take these two bolts off, the ground wire will come right off.

Replace it with another ground wire, or as JDA mentioned, grounding straps...

Do you happen to know what the Acura part number for this ground trap? Thank you.

Go to the dealer and ask them, or pull up a schematic from acura.com.

Pretty easy to get a length of 4awg power wire and crimp on your own ring terminals...

number #9 is the part number you posted, the
CABLE, SUB-GROUND
Part number: 32610-SDA-A00

then #8 is another major ground for the engine on the OPPOSITE end of the engine/transmission (it kinda sits buried down below the intake tube), and considering the ground you posted looks how it does, this ground (#8) probably looks in the exact same type of condition also

and as mentioned, you can also just go get some cable and make it yourself, or buy an universal one, but considering the price for OEM direct fit ones, not really worth the hassle to make anything else fit

btw if you really want to cover yourself, and make the engine have good grounds, you could also replace the battery's ground too, which is #11 in this link

Not sure when you said "To make sure that the electrical parts on the engine have a negative current for operation." If I was to replace the wire myself, how would I do it correctly without harming anything. Thanks.

As long as the car is off, you dont have to worry about anything. If you really feel nervous, disconnect the battery, but make sure you have the radio/navi codes with you.

It can only produce 1.21 gigawatts as it sits. Most people can survive that if they touch it without wearing a rubber suit.

...or, just unbolt the old one and put the new one on. It is really that simple.
