Ugh, oil pump is leaking
A little while back I found oil spots on my garage floor. I thought it might have been the oil drain plug, solenoid, or something similar, but after Tire Kingdom failed to fix the leak the first three times I took it to them, I took it to the Acura dealer. They said it was the oil pump. Estimate was $1979, and after military and customer discounts, brought the total to $1549 or so. 11 hours of labor to replace the oil pump.
It's cheaper than getting a new used car. I love my TL-S too much to let it die.

was it just weeping?
I would have just assumed it meant the car was very comfortable with me and was getting really wet every time it was near me. A compliment, if you will. A sign the car was super comfortable with me.

several similar posts. Many of us have very slow oil pump leaks....few drops per month or less. Mine has been leaking for about 4 years and 100,000 miles but is very minor. Much cheaper than the $1600 my dealer wanted (only offered $200 off when I was to do the timing belt).
Mine has been getting worse lately and I’ve had my leak for about four years. I eventually may get it done to feel better about it. I was quoted about 800-900 by an independent shop. If I did my TB 25k ago would you think I should do it again? I only drive about 5 miles a day now with my new commute (more like 2 miles). I probably won’t have this car past 2020 so maybe I wait it out haha

ya used car prices are really high right now. You don't get much for the money. Plus, the TL is probably a better used car than the others. So why buy another used car that will just break down again? haha
i have oil pump leak on my 2011 mdx and I am worry the leak might get on the timing belt. Are sure the leak from the oil pump will not touch the timing belt? What about the leak from the cam seal? Will the oil leak from the cam seal channel away from the timing belt as well?

This fix my oil pump leak without removing it. Just loosen the idler pulley bolt and re-tighten it back.
”There is another thing I noticed today...I don’t see anymore oil leak from the oil pump! I think I know why. When I was doing the timing belt I replaced the idler pulley. The idler pulley bolt is designed to go through the hole on the oil pump to hold both the pulley and the oil pump. And its happened that the high pressure oil gasket is located next to this bolt. The oil leak that I was having was from this gasket and when i replaced the idler pulley I tightened the bolt and thus it re-tighten the oil gasket. If I don’t see anymore oil leak in the next 5 days then I fix the oil pump leak without having to remove the oil pump! This is like throw one rock and hits two birds. Man if this is true I am feeling even better now!”

^ did you re-tighten it more than you should?
I was thinking as a workaround, smear hondabond on the outside casing area where the oil pump seal goes through, but I'm not sure if it works or not.

I am not sure if a lot of people knowing this, The oil pump 1st leak happened on a bolt not around Honda bond seal area, I believe there is a o-ring sit inside there and the tech who work on my car said once he reseal the pump unit he put a little Honda bond around the o-ring sealing area too. Tighten the bolt won't fix the issue.
I'm totally aware of the double-loop looking seal inside, behind the oil pump, it's just a huge amount of working getting there. Need to take off the exhaust j-pipe (super high risk with rusted nuts and studs), take off oil pan, take off crank pulley, timing belt, crank gear, crank seal, then finally oil pump. We are talking a 2 or 3 day project for an average joe with tools. That's if you don't run into issues like busted exhaust bolts, with no oxy acetylene torch, using busted nut removal sockets. I did the timing belt job in 1.5 days, adding this one means 3 days I think. I am not looking to bust open that area until the next timing belt job at around 310000 miles.

and with the timing belt and front camshaft replacement I just did I saved over $5,000 and my X purrs like a kitten.

But it’s work for me. It saves me from removing the exhaust pipe, oil pan, oil pump, and and all the reseal BS. Just loosen one bolt and tighten it back. I just saved $2,000.
