Unhappy TL-S Battery Dead After 2 Days Sitting

I have seen others have this problem.

I parked my car Friday Night because I took my wife's truck down to Philly. I got back last night. I went to start my car this morning and just got some clicks and dings. I am charging it now, but I don't know if this will fix the problem.

For those who have had this problem, what was the fix?

Only 8,000 miles and I have left the car sitting for longer than this before!!!

did you leave the light(s) on?
If the battery won't charge. take it back to the dealer, it should be under warranty. My battery die on me at 25k.

My Q
How long does an average battery last?

I've had a bettery die in 4 months as it was defective, and a battery that is in one of my cars that sees maybe 4,000 per year is 14 1/2 years old, as it was installed in May 1993. Both extremes, but can't see why a quality battery woudn't last 4 to 5 years.

The battery in my 05 died w/in the first 12 months of ownership. Dealer replaced the battery. There was a TSB for the batteries for the 05 MY. There was also a TSB for the Navi draining the battery. Luckily for me, it wasn't a problem w/ the Navi but a defective battery. Get the dealer to give you a new battery.

Ran out of time, but as it's new have the dealer check battery and draw. If was older I'd suggect checking draw by removing the neg terminal and checking with a meter.

Unless you didn't leave a light on by mistake it must be a defective battery. I'd take it to the dealer for a diagnostic and probable replacement. I've had my 05 for a little over 2yrs w/o any battery problems (23K miles).

It started up after a brief charge. I have been using it today and started it several times.

I didn't leave any lights on. I will have the dealer check out the electronics and the battery.

thanks for the input.

Any chance your outside temperature display was showing flatlines? This happened to my '04 manual TL seven weeks after purchase and 36 hours before leaving for my vacation. Battery was totally dead after sitting for 4 days. I charged it up and went on my vacation and have never had the problem since then.

If you get flatlines on your temp display, there is a good chance that the ECU will remain in an error loop even with the ignition off (this bug may have been fixed in later models).

Check the voltage of your battery after the car has been sitting for around 3 hours. You should show in the neighborhood of 12.8 volts with a healthy battery.

I am on my third battery on my 07 TL-S. The original battery died at the dealership while I was buying the car. Very nice... The second battery died after the car sat for a week while I was travelling. I just returned from a week vacation, and it was fine. Maybe a bad batch of batteries?

My car as less than 3K miles, so dealership replaced under warranty.

i wonder what's going on with this battery issue! my aunt has an MDX and her battery was also dead after 1 year! her dealership refused to replace the battery - which was obnoxious seeing as her car was well within the warranty period. also, she tried using the Acura TLC service who made her wait 3+ hours for a jump so that she could at least get her car home! That's ridiculous in and of itself! I've read other posts about the crappy TLC service... I for one, would forego TLC and call on AAA who I've always had fast, friendly service.

Keeping the headlight switch in "AUTO" position

I recall reading in my 07 Type-S book that it is recommended that if the car will sit for more than one week at a time to *not* keep the headlight switch in the AUTO position.

This struck me as odd because that would suggest the system consumes a considerable about of power when idle and the ignition is off. I wonder if there is a different reason for the suggestion to be in the book?

I guess this explains why every time I have my 04 at the dealer for anything they load test the battery. Always thought that was a little weird, but my dealer is pretty cool, so I didn't give it any thought

We've seen it on a few cars. The control unit for the bluetooth is staying on.

Its been my experience that honda/acura batteries not so good. I just had the battery die on my 04 tl while I was sitting in the car with the lights on changing out the cabin air filter. I know the dealer will cover it without charge in my case but I just went to a parts store and bought the best thing they had. I would prefer not to get stuck you know. I had 2 batteries replaced once in a brand new 06 honda odyssey back to back and I have heard others complain about the same thing. Its almost as if they think all the battery ever needs to do is crank the engine, and thats all it should be able to do.

Good Luck
