Immobilizer Deactivated Key?

I have been having odd problems with my 05 TL AT recently. A check engine light came on related to the O2 sensors, but the next morning when I tried to start it up it cranks but didn't start. I noticed the immobilizer light blinking the entire time the key was on the "On" position. This morning the battery is now completely dead (2.8v...). I tried jumping it with a portable battery but it wont fully crank. I'm worried that if I try to jump it with another car it still won't start because of the immobilizer. Is there anyway to fix the immobilzer issue without going to a Honda/Acura dealer? I would prefer not to tow it all the way out there. Can a keysmith come out and do it?

Thanks!

From the sounds of it you have an immobilizer issue and a battery issue that was brought to light by the cranking. I would start with a fresh new battery.
Then if you don't have a 2nd key to try, you have to take it to Honda. Either the key is deactivated or the reader is not functioning at the ignition barrel.

I bought a brand new battery, unfortunately it did not fix the issue. I will try my spare key ( which is being shipped from a different location) and hopefully that will work. Otherwise it seems like the Honda dealership may be the only other option.

Most decent locksmiths should also be able to program a Honda key if it turns out to only need the original key reprogrammed. If your spare key doesn't work, then you'll definitely have to go to the dealer as it probably means the immobilizer is not working properly.

Hopefully the spare works! I'll keep this updated just in case someone runs into a similar issue.
