How does the car detect misfire ?
I was wondering how the car's ECU detect Misfire.
I got a few Misfire codes lately, but the car seems to run just fine. It happens at idle or when driving very slowly. I went to the dealer but the problem was not present when I was there and they said everything was fine. They erased everything, but it came back this morning.
So I was wondering if they could be "false alarm" caused by a faulty sensor. The codes were saying misfire on ALL cylinders (p0300 to p0306) and the CEL blinked before staying on, but like I said before, I could not notice anything else unusual with the car.
It is a 04 TL, 65 kmph and no more warranty.

Have you driven the car hard lately? Filled up gas lately?
Misfires can be due to many things, one that I can think of now is that you may have some bad fuel, and the timing is reduced so far to the point where it cannot contain the mis-fires. I would put some seafoam in the gas tank to get rid of any water or contaminants in it, or to put more gas in from a trusted Tier 1 retailer.

^^^I agree. It's happened to me before, and I put in some octane booster and some fuel treatment. But, what's funny is that my car was noticeably not running right, or idling right.
Put in some additives, fuel at a Tier 1 gas station, drive as much as possible, and refuel. It should go away soon after. Now you just have to worry about getting the codes erased.

I am not sure if this applies but take a look at this
