06 TL worn out rear rotor and break pads problem.....please help
Hi Guys,
I have 06 TL and got it bran new. I drive my car from home to office back and forth only pretty much. I have 27k miles on it. I did hear a noise coming from the back wheels few days back and went to the dealer and they said my rear rotors are bad rusted and with need to replace with the break pads and quoted 800 for the job.
My question is this how in the world a 27k miles car get a rusted rotors? It clearly showed a only the middle of the rotors were touching and rest of the area is rusted. Does this can be claimed under bad part? because if it is normal Wear and Tear it should not make carving type on the disk. I feel when they rotate my tires and clean up the breaks @ 15K they made a mistake in getting the pads touching it correct.
Could I get the warranty to replace them? what should I tell them? any hints...

Can you post a picture of the rotors?
The "rusted rotors" requiring replacement doesn't sound right. The edge and hubs of the rotors (which the brake pads do not touch) often get surface rust on them, and that is normal.
Seized calipers, maybe? What is written on your estimate/work order?
Auto transmission or manual?
Front brake pads replaced before?

Nope rust rotors is not the reason for the replacement it is part of it. So They says my breaks are frozen and because of that they need to replace the rotors since it was grinding my rotor. It is an auto transmission. never have replaced the front breaks....front ones are fine.
following are the pictures.....as u can see the pictures....its not just the edges there is a wide area which is rusted....I believe they did not replace the calipers well when they did something. Also if the calipers failed it is not wear and tear right? as it was failing?
I would really appreciate any hints since I need to talk to the service manager tomorrow.

The rust is pretty bad but I doubt thats the issue from the pics. Looks to me like you simply waited to long to goto the dealer and the rear pads wore out and scored the rotors.
You dealer is...well, sounding a little dumb. But it is not the car's fault if I am correct. Its...yours
Or maybe its theirs because the last time you had them checked maybe they said they were fine???

The pictures look to show quite a bit of rust, more than normal, my car is at 30,000 plus miles (2005) and the back brakes are fine at about 80% of pads left, and much less rust.
Rotors cost about $25.00 each, good pads cost about $35.00 for both back wheels, glad I do my own work!
I could do all new back brakes for $85.00 or less....now lets see, what would I do with the extra $500.00??????

you should be able to sand off the rust.. the most you'd need to do is turn your rotors.
It looks like..
1. car is in a wet / salty / humid environment
2. sits much of the time undriven
3. rust formed
4. rust started eating your pads and eventually scored your rotors
... anyways ...
yea.. acura is gonna charge you a HUGE premium on labor to get your brakes done.
Pads alone: 250 for rear.. when the pads alone alone cost like $50.. so you're paying for labor..
You can replace the rotors and pads yourself. If it's just the rears.. go to AutoZone and buy the rotors and pads for $125 .. they have a lifetime warranty.. check though.. I heard they may have changed the warranty on rotors.
... otherwise.. if no time tools or interest in replacing them yourself.. go to a reputable mechanic and get an estimate.. you should be able to save at least 2-3 hundred!!
bottomline: get it out of the dealership.. way too much $$ for a simple job

Auto zone crap? if your pads wear down just return them and they give you new ones.. for free!! ... they pay themselves off 3 - 4 times.. I run off duralast ceramic pads and rotors on my second vehicle. Still running strong after 30k with little dust..
I would also veto auto zone, pep boys, or any of the other local auto parts places for pads, maybe rotors would be ok, but get a better pad for less money on line.
PBR/axxis deluxe pads are great and cheap, ebc black label pads are just like the original pads, but much lower in price.
In any case, you pay a huge amount of money getting brake stuff done at the dealers, and only get stock parts.
You could get some fantastic stuff for less than the dealers price, fancy drilled rotors and so on...
I put new front pads on my car, ebc black label for the brembo setup, for $50.00, with a brake fluid flush.
The rotors were ok, but will need to be replaced next time I need pads.
