Changing out front and rear brake rotors

Changing out front and rear brake rotors

After 135000 km, its time to change out my brake rotors on my 2007 RDX. It has been vibrating pretty badly when braking downhill and under hard braking on level roads. It also takes a longer time to come to a stop.

Bought some aftermarket cross-drilled rotors for both front and rear brakes, and matching them to factory Acura Brake pads. My local shop repair person indicated its best to keep the pads original.

Hopefully the cross-drilled rotors will provide equal or more superior stopping.

Got both front and rear cross-drilled rotors for $200.00 (equals $50 a piece).

The brake rotors I got were from a Canadian brake company. Got them off Ebay.

Your cross drilled rotors will look nice. But there is really no empirical evidence that they will provide better stopping power than non-drilled rotors in a daily driver like the RDX (with small rotors to begin with). Most of the non-OEM packages will probably be fine, and at least as good as stock. If you read through the extensive threads here about brakes, you will see that the effects of changing out pads and rotors on our cars is highly subjective. Two different people can have the opposite opinion about the same pad types. It is bewildering for sure! In the end I stayed with OEM pads, which to me seem perfectly suitable for normal daily driving.

^Yep. The idea of slots/holes/dots is to let gasses that form out. It may help with fade if you track your car.

Very few people run anything at the track other than blanks.

At one time, drilled rotors were somewhat known for cracking. I think that's fairly rare now.


With all that said, I but drilled and slotted rotors on my sports car (Honda s2000). The price was great, and I do think they look cool! It was a big improvement. (and the OEM pads and rotors still had a fair amount of life).

I'll probably end up putting the same setup on my RDX (along with ATE fluid). It will be the 3rd vehicle I've purchased this kit for, and have been very pleased so far.

Are you talking about the blue ATE fluid?

ATE Super Blue isn't made anymore. It was on the market for 15 years before the government realized it was blue (thus not conforming to regulation).

After a week after the installation of the brake rotors and pads , the feel is great, much more positive, and absolutely quiet. Stops good, and definitely looks cool with the cross-drilled rotors. the rotors are aftermarket, local Canadian manufactured (OEM), while the pads are Acura OEM from the dealer.
