Hmm...I wonder if I should get my front emblem done. I have that black background. Also my rear is black chrome. What do you guys think?

Damn, lembowski... That looks great! Pulling off two-tone paint jobs is very hit-or-miss.
I'd say yours is a hit! I personally love it.

a friend of mine manufactures one off carbon fiber parts and i'm going to get him to make a carbon fiber overlay mold for the inner portion of a cut out grill. i have to pay him a good deal for the production of the mold. would anyone be interrested in buying one? you would be required to cut out your grill or modify the part. i dont have an exact price estimate either. pm me if you are interrested. i want to do this for myself, but i figure once the mold is made, i could make a bunch more and sell them. let me know, im just trying to get an idea on potential demand.

I may be in as well... That is, if you are still around... afterall that post was from October... and you only have 15 posts.
I have a 'hunch' that the folks at Acura cracked my grill [the bondo got cracked].
Going to try fabbing one out of FB before I go back to rebondo-ing ... or with the CF you are stating about.

I don't wanna say I told ya so Komodo! Thing is if you complain to the dealer he is either going to deny they did it or they will ask "Why did you do that to your grill/you shouldn't have done that" etc. Use that different Bondo I was explaining about before, mine is still holding up, no problems at all 1 yr. later.
I would really want a fabbed CF part for this but I doubt there will be serious demand for it. I see JDM style mesh grilles that look like mine on other types of cars out there. They are lucky that they don't have to custom fab anything and they are readymade ones. Because of the work involved like cutting I know this will remain a rare mod. (I don't mind that, my car always stands out from the rest!) It's the reason RJ changed plans to not go forward with it. If the grille was an easy removal like a simple bolted removal and swap we would have seen more people wanting a replacement mesh/carbon fiber grille.

I was actually dissatisfied with the paint anyway, I left the paint to dry in the blazing sun and it caused some bubbles in the paint ... Now with the TL still on Falken 452s and poor weather condition.... I might just go re-do the grille the proper way. I might use fiberglass with some bondo [to help fill the hole]. I don't think I should have any worries about cracking then. =]

Re-read your post about the bondo-situation. You stated not to use 'fiberglass repair kit' hmn... I've recently worked with fiberglass and it flexes quite well [I made a test-eyelid and bent it several ways].
Rocky, do you have a link or image of the epoxy for plastic thing you used?
I just recently purchased the ATLP with other misc. items... now I'm broke. I have lots of fiberglass and resin left over, though. I might test things out for myself to see how durable using fiberglass as part of the grille might work.... now that school is almost out.

If you are VERY confident about using fiberglass, I'd say try but I still think the product I recommended it better. You are putting plastic over plastic, it bonds better.
You can find it at PepBoys or Autozone. It is made by the same company that makes bondo but it is different. It is called "Bumper repair kit" and it is basically like a liquid plastic epoxy. When dry it is pliable and flexible like plastic and won't crack. It is pretty durable to the elements. A tip is to just mix a little at a time and apply. DON'T mix too much at a time, it sets and dries pretty quickly!

Seems that it works the same way as the bondo I previously used. It had a pretty fast drying time... It wasn't perfectly cured but it had settled fast enough to be a pain to remove/work with.
I think I'll be using some fiberglass and this 'bumper repair kit'.

That does look good! Very tempting. I'm saving up for some wheels right now but this mod may come after that. I'm betting another $500 or so at the body shop though, possibly more. If anyone gets one, post lots of pics of it as it comes and after it is installed.
If this works out, the open face grill may start appearing on more cars.

I wouldn't be able to justify $200 for that piece of plastic, when I can make my own for a lot less, not that I would to begin with.
hmm..typical ebay hahaha
Just to clear it up, you still have to cut the grill out which still sucks.

HUH???
YES! I was looking for this!! Finally someone makes this! I was looking/waiting so long. I am SO happy now!
I am gettin this done in the spring! I know the price is steep but I don't care! I want my grille finished off right. My grille is OK but it won't hold up for another 3 years.
I wonder why they offer the hood piece?? Maybe if you want it to look more plasticky?? I'm gonna take this, paint it body color or carbon fiber it and redo the mesh (if it is cheap quality) with the high quality powder-coated stuff I have already!!
I am SO excited!!!

Anyone local that has NBP wanna get that eBay grill so that we can split the NBP paintjob at the body shop? I guess more people it will be cheaper... and Rocky I suggest you do the same thing. Most bodyshops will charge about $175 to $200 to paint one or two since they gotta mix the paint, so it would work out a little cheaper if 2 people or 3 people went in on it together.
#1477
Either or would look good IMO, solid black, or NBP. The quality of the paint work will be the most noticeable or important. Just remove, or don't paint the inner mesh part.

Nice find on that pre-made grille. It looks like once you cut the middle bar out it'll slide right in place.
