Bringing this back from the dead. Lol.
A few days ago my starter went out. Ordered one from Orielly's and it came in today. Got the battery and battery tray taken out but I'm having an impossible time trying to find the bolts that hold the starter on. When I look at the new starter in the box, it seems like the bolts I need to remove are the two I've taken pics of; the one on the bracket in the first pic and the one almost right above the blue cable in the second pic. They're not the best pics but they're the best I could take while holding the flashlight. Are these the right ones or no? It's like playing Where's Waldo. lol
I can have it done for 150 in labor so it's not terrible but I figured if I can learn something knew and save a little bit of money I might as well at least try.

Probably won't have anymore updates unfortunately. Was driving in Atlanta last night and ran over something in the road. Have no idea what it was, couldn't see it because if I could I wouldn't have run over it. After I ran over whatever it was, transmission completely died. Car was in gear but acted like it was in neutral. Had it towed to the dealer last night and got the call today that whatever it was had busted the transmission case. Repair will run $8,600 which at this point makes no sense to put into the car. Insurance is going to send an adjuster out Monday or Tuesday and let us know but I've got a bad feeling they're going to total it out.
It fucking sucks. I really enjoy the car and getting rid of it wasn't in the plans. I was going to keep it and get something new(er) down the road but now it looks like I'll have to get something within the next few weeks. Not really the Christmas I was hoping for....

Don't know if it's a bright side or not. Still pretty down about the whole situation. I'm really hoping they don't total it out, but I've got a bad feeling that's what'll happen.
Went and looked at a '15 CLA 250 today, couldn't even get myself excited about it.

Well, is that good or bad? How much is your deductible?

$500. They said the subframe and transmission case are shot. Low life isn't for me or shit Atlanta roads. lol
In all honesty if it's not totaled it's probably for the best. I've been saving for when I get into a commission only job to get me through the first 6 months, not to buy a car. Having a car payment would just add another bill I don't need. But I was starting to get excited about getting something new.

The new car itch is the devil
Enjoy no payments and let insurance fix your car.

The new car itch is like poison ivy. When you start scratching it, it only grows larger and larger.

They did say that if they find anything else damaged once everything starts getting repaired, they're going to total it out. So I'm still not 100% sure it won't be totaled.
This time the new car itch is like that boner you get as soon as you're called to stand up in front of the class; not what you really want to happen but you still kinda would like to tug at it a little.

Thanks lol. Honestly didn't think I'd get to this point with it and not sure how much longer I'll keep it. I'm looking at new (to me) cars and each time I get done with a test drive and hop back in my car I think to myself, "Damn. Back to driving this old thing."
If I get something in the next 6-8 months it'll probably be a 14-16 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited or 14-16 Lexus RX F Sport. Only thing really turning me off the Jeep is the customer service at the dealership, its awful.
The other option is to keep the TL for another couple of years, and get a 17 Raptor once prices come down a little bit and I can get one preowned. This is what I really want to do but don't know if I can hold off on a new car for that long.

Raptor It would be worth the wait!
Both the GC and RX would cure the new car itch, but they would get boring very quickly.

wait until you can get what you want! i've been very tempted to get a new (used) car that is much newer and has better performance, and might have pulled the trigger if we aren't trying to buy a house right now, but i think i convinced myself to hold out because the next car will be that much better if i save the money.
glad to see you're still around!!
