Doesn't J have some breather mods already? Or am I mistaken?

Either way, we're wearing him down. Let's keep it up!

I don't know why they choose to put the v8 in the rs5. Just upgrade the screw and tune on the 3.0 and make a lot more power...

LOL, I entertain a lot of things, but that's crazy...$5-7K would be me spending about what my car is worth (bone stock). I'd much rather buy a fixer upper weekend fun car intended for some sideways smiles. I do appreciate the banter and encouragement. The TL is honestly fast enough for me to really enjoy driving her as is.

I'm sure it could be MORE fun, but then I'd have to take that approach with my peen and that's a literal slippery slope. Gotta be happy with what I'm workin with.

E36 M3

I would recommend a S2000 but I'm not sure that your wide hips could fit and if you got one, I would have to kill you.

Jeremy...I like to think about it this way....

A cheap weekend fun car = ~$5000-7500
Mods here and there (headlights, taillights, this, that) = ~$500
Rims and tires = $1500-2000
Boost + Engine mods = $5000
Intake/Headers/Exhaust = $1500-$2000 (could me more depending)
Suspension = $750
Misc = $500

Total = ~12k-15K + added insurance and 1 car will be sitting out (since you getting a 2 car garage )

So why not just put the 5-6K in this car...you already have a lot "invested" in it...looks great and its not like you have winter or insane weather when you will have to decide between your fun car and daily driver....now if you lived in the midwest, I understand the sentiment of having 2 cars....

Unless, you thinking of trading this car/returning it to stock and buying a 'Stang V8 5.0....then I call dibs on the trunk lip and rims

The next mods aren't quick and easy ones. Downtime, questionable reliability... Man still has to get to work and back.

Look at everyone trying to persuade you...

Keep the TL as-in. Sweet DD. Get a different, likely better, more fun platform for something new. Something that can sit while you do anything you want to it. Want a perfectly painted engine? Do it! You have another car! Wire tuck? Why not! No rush!

You've got the right idea J.

Well, depending on the deal I could get...I would be considering this:

My car is paid off, so although that's cash on the table to sell, to me, it's money spent and gone and can be considered my "Daddy" car since it has 4 doors and gets decent gas mileage and is predictable in the rain.

My buddy might be selling this, he's done ALL maintenance on it, seals/gaskets and suspension/steering components and already has some gorgeous staggered 19" Racing Dynamic rims. If he'd do $10K, I'd HIGHLY consider it and then maybe I'll let you guys talk me into boosting THAT!

I even bumped into it while avoiding curbing my rims on this day...you break it you bought it?

and fyi Tyler...a weekend car doesn't have to be practical so I'd likely put the carbs down long enough to fit my fat azz between bolsters.

my list of fun cars has been:
miata, most affordable
s2000, doable
lotus, not sure if i can swing it

and one thing you guys are forgetting is even being marginally faster, or even noticeably faster you're still sitting in the same car, same cockpit, same feel, same handling etc...there's something to be said for the mystique that a "side chick" brings...

EDIT: Chad nailed it

I'm still very anti-supercharger on these cars. For how much you spend to only get 315 whp on a fwd car, that's not worth it to me. Yes it sounds amazing, but that's about it. Spend the $7k towards another car with a better platform to work with.

Jeremy, its all about the whine

but yeah, I do agree with Adam, on anything higher than 350-370whp on these cars just seems like a waste since the power delivery will be mainly spinning tires....Also generating power out of the J series does take a lot of work and money....

but I would still look into a SC add on rather than spending 12K-15K on ANOTHER car....as I said, unless you looking to get a higher powered Mustang or M3 or RS5, I think you will enjoy the completely predictability for the SC'd TL....

if I didnt have to look into a Minivan/SUV upgrade, I would have installed the heads and ECU and would have tried to get to 325-330whp

But you're still crawling into bed with your wife every night...Why not have a mistress for crazy weekends?

I think that's his point.

Look at his car. Beyond going faster what more can he do? When you get to that point the eye starts to wander...

You all do realize that RS5s go for like $90k loaded right? Lol

I'm coming from a 99 Cobra that was making 310 rwhp with basic bolt-ons. I rode in a friend's 04 Cobra with a Kenne Bell SC and other supporting mods making 650 rwhp. That car ruined me and ultimately made me want to sell my car. I knew my car would never get to that level bc it wasn't built for it. I would have had to upgrade a lot of stuff on the car to safely make that kind of power. It would have been cheaper to buy an 03/04 Cobra since it was a better platform to work with.

You have to look at the TL and realize it's not meant to be a high HP car. 315 whp is NOT a lot of power compared to the newer cars out today. Would you really be happy spending all that money and still being slower than these other luxury cars out?

To be honest, guys...if anything driving around that ballsy AWD S5 did the complete opposite for me.

Instead of propelling me to seek out more power and to get to that level...it was more like a dikslap reality check that I decided to embrace and take as a lesson that it's very very expensive to keep up with the Jones' and just appreciate the rolling art that Acura created to be decent in all categories but not excellent in any 10 years ago.

A friend of mine is about to put his 2000 Stage 3 S4 up for sale. I know he will take $6500 for it. A second car, AWD, 400+ whp, and it would rape a SC TL.

A big part of it all for me was technology. I'm sitting there soldering harnesses while my interior is ripped apart just to get iPhone and AUX in for a tablet and I realized how much of a pain some of the simple things are! Lol
