no sir, actually, I'm not...same wheels this whole time.
This thread started as a wheel thread since I was just looking into getting them etc...and it eventually became my progress thread.
Maybe a mod can move it to the right place ?

So, recently bought some backup engine covers for a little paint project I'd had in my mind, something to add some bling that wouldn't change my stealthy look unless the hood was open. First time I took my time and did everything by the book. I'll let the outcome speak for itself.
Bought my materials. $30.
Sanded and also taped up the little tabs on the top ones and the line that lines up with the black portion of the sides (you'll see).
wiped down with IPA
Primed it
ended up doing 2 coats of primer and 3 and 3 of color and clear
and the finished product.
Before and After
Honestly, I LOVE IT.

Looks sweeet!
Planning to paint the piece on top of the bumper?

Thanks man...no sir, because of the brusk contrast, the copper will show through the small visible lines when hood is closed. That's another reason I taped off the sides to match the line of black plastic that you can see.

Thanks! Yeah, a friend of mine actually had some paint mixed based on this color to paint his custom honda motorcycle. I love it, reminds me of my blaze orange metallic RSX! Thinking about doing the calipers with some black acura decals but not SURE since it's not easily reversible.
Wow, coming from the grand master of bays, that is a hell of a compliment. Thank you!
Lookie here, you have quickly become the biggest advocate for me spending more money! Ok, about the direction...I felt the Gloss black or NBP had been done already and the fact that my car has very little color has always bother me (CBP and KBP envy much?) SO, figure this was a good way to add some color to the car in a very subtle way. I've always loved copper on black. I confirmed it on some pieces that I could always repaint, or switch back to stock (have backups, since I bought these off a forum member...another reason why I didn't paint the upper bumper cover since it's my only one and you'd see the copper when hood was closed).
About the spacer, after reading the threads on it and other thermal gaskets I am pretty convinced that lowering the under hood temps would provide the most benefit since the main issue under the hood is ambient heat, not radiant heat. If it was cheaper, I'd consider it. As far as CAI, especially after the rain we saw this weekend, I don't want my filter that low to the ground. I'm happy with my resonator removed and K&N drop in filter. The best of both worlds!
Thanks Tyler, very much! Your little wooden look was my final push to do something about the bland covers. I honestly planned on leaving it stock, but the new covers were pretty scratched up so figured it'd be good to do.
Funny, I've known how to take the right steps to paint something properly but it's SO hard to do it right and be patient. My ADD always kicks in and I usually end up rushing SOMETHING and messing it up. Not this time...spray a coat and 1 round of free for all on black ops...then, next coat!
Thank you sir...I guess having Steven Bell move it to photo gallery rather than rims/tires really did increase the traffic here! I appreciate the kind words.

Nice look with the orange. I really like it.
I know you said that you were concerned with the orange being visible when the hood is shut, but what about painting part of that front cover so it softens that break a bit?

I actually thought about that after it was suggested, but that is the only engine cover I DON'T have a backup of which would make it non reversible. Also, if you look at where the orange ends on the covers that touch that cover, it would be hard to make it flow better. I think I'll leave it as is for now.
I need to figure out where to order Acura decals for the brembo's now...so that I can think about painting the calipers.

Thanks again for everything, man...glad you checked back in to see that they ended up in a safe home!
Sometimes I do, buddy...that's for sure. BUT, I do always remember that when I had my RSX at the same time, I still always felt like driving the TL becasue it felt a lot more refined and although pretty much equally fast, the TL FELT more fast.

I honestly suggest you to put a P2R Intake Manifold thermal gasket between the manifold and the runners and sandwich a P2R spacer between a set of the thermal gaskets.....You will see the TB stay cooler....consistently....
and ohh

Well I heard some P2R group buy is going on so you can score the spacer + gaskets for $80 or some like that....the Intake thermal gasket is like $35-ish....
You can get both for $120....
I am not a guy who tells you to put shit in ur car without having it in mine....I am not a guy who has documented changes/temperature readings etc....
I like understanding the concept, doing a little research and getting it done....I like this mod....my butt doesnt lie....in the summer it had gotten crazy and these mods helped me a lot....Infact I have 2 intake thermal gaskets as I am rocking the MDX spacer....the spacer is sandwiched between 2 gaskets....
btw the disclaimer was for people who are reading....am not saying dude this will reduce the temperature by xyz degrees....but am saying u will notice a difference
hence I didnt mention about the CAI....as a lot of people who are on stock intake are doing almost as good as the people with CAI....

Well thank you very much, buddy...and I'd ask that you now close your acurazine account and just keep on thinkin that cause if you start lookin around you'll see I'm a guppy in a very big pond with very big fish.
Went to the stancenation meet the Saturday before last...I parked under a tree in the corner...I swear, my car didn't even look modded compared to all the other cars there!

^I can't believe NO ONE has commented on this post at all.
She only has white outdoor vinyl and she's not sure how well it will work on the brakes with the heat. She's putting our son to bed now so we'll have to talk later on what she wants to do.
I had an 05 RSX-S and I would take the TL any day. Being the RSX was based off of the civic frame/suspension, that should tell you something right there.
I sure do! Let's get it goin then...I'd be glad to buy a set of white and a set of black lettering (in case I wanted to go back to gloss black) and maybe even the standard Brembo sign.
Thanks again for everything, man...glad you checked back in to see that they ended up in a safe home!

Dude...had an 05 BOM Type S...honestly, if I still owned it I'd be worried about parking it anywhere. With k series swaps so popular, that thing would get flat bedded all day long...like what happened to my mom's 99 GSR.
The pun was intended so I guess it loses it's humor! Nobody bothered to comment on it.
About the vinyl...I'm not 100% I even want to mess with painting the stock brake calipers but I'm thinking about it. If it were reversible, which, obviously it would be since I'd be able to paint it gloss black again if I wanted to. We shall see...supposedly it has to be high temp vinyl but I think you're also supposed to clear over it so it sits under the paint.
