damn that fluid looks nasty !!! glad you switched it....
When I did a 4x3 with redline, I feel in love with the shifts....they were so quick and actually smooth....Its been ~45K miles on the pressure switches and the shifts have started to lag a little bit and I was thinking of doing another 1x3 and switches....
when everything is smooth, the car is sooo much more fun to drive

^^^ I would highly recommend doing a 1x3 every other oil change (10K miles)....will help coz there will always be new fluid in there

^yup i do a 1x3 every oil change, around 7k miles.
some may say its a waste of money, but i dont care. keeping my transmission in tip top shape is more important to me.

^^^ 7K is a tad bit too extreme IMO on both counts...i would reduce your oil change interval to 5K and increase your transmission drain and refill interval to 10K....

you do a lot of highway driving eh
After the EGR Delete and a ton of city driving and am usually down to 0% in 4K-4.5K miles....after consulting with IHC and Inaccurate, they confirmed that the MID/ECU has no way to calculate the oil percentage and hence I keep 5K constant as I usually hit 5K in 6 months....

I change when the MID says to also.
#6535
I do 3K changes on normal oil and 5K with synthetic. Always have (no, the TL has never seen regular oil). Transmission, I did the new Honda fluid at like 58K...and then GM Syncromesh at 62K...now at almost 30K, that's how black the fluid was...crazy. There was NOTHING on the drain bolt this time though, which is a great sign...no shavings of metal.

i will say that when i did my oil change this past weekend, at 7k miles, it was pretty filthy.

about oil at 7K, yes the engine oil will be filthy....if you are taking about transmission fluid being filthy at 7K miles, you might look into adding an external filter or a transmission drain bolt with a better magnet....
#6538
Yeah, there's no sensor to determine actual oil quality...alls it does is probably does rpms x time at those rpm's and there's some formula built in to give you a percentage to keep an eye on it. It's for old people and non car people so they can't go "oh fawk...what's an oil change?"

^no no the transmission bolt was clean as can be, and has been ever since i switched to redline a long time ago. there has been less and less material/gunk on the drain bolt after each 1x3. atf fluid that drained out was still pink in color, just the motor oil was dirty (which i know is to be expected after 7k.) maybe i will switch to 5k intervals. i just dont want to be changing my oil and the MID says 40% left you know?

Engine Oil, I would highly recommend you to switch to 5K intervals....and i totally understand about switching with MID showing 40% LOL....when i used to do a lot of highway driving (~25K/year) I saw myself switching oil every 2.5 months and MID saying oil % at 30-50% (depending on the weather).....
IHC and Innacurate might disown me for saying this but if you feel you are spending tooo much on redline engine oil and thats why you have the 7K interval, switch to Pennzoil Ultra or Mobil 1 EP and bring the OCI down to 5000 miles

Penn Ultra is what am using....5w30 is what I get....since Redline is thicker and Aaron if you plan on sticking to redline, stick with 5w20....5w30 is too thick

^^^ if you plan on switching back and forth between 5w-20 and 5w-30, use 5w30 in the summer since your engine sees higher temps and will need a thicker oil and 5w-20 in the winter....

^^^ Jeremy, I hope you put 2 of the 2 cycle oil
Aaron, not really since summer is around the corner but if you were planning on doing another oil change before summer with 5w20, yes you got it backwards....

^but i thought 5w30 was extra protection for winter months since its so cold, and 5w20 was better for summer since its a bit thinner. i done been lied to!

I do...it's been really convenient though cause I'm always afraid of stripping my oil drain bolt...so I figured out that it would end up being cheaper to just add 2 little bottles of 2 cycle engine oil to every other tank of gas. So far, so good...no CEL or anything.
