Bird is the Word
When I shoot in Full Manual, I choose the Aperture first based on how much of the picture I want in focus. If I want a blurry background, I choose a lower Ap and if i want the whole pic in focus, then a high Ap. From there you want to look at the Exposure meter and adjust the Shutter speed to get the Exposure at 0 or just slightly underexposed. When you shoot in Raw, you can always fix an underexposed photo, but overexposed photos you can't do much with.
I have a Sigma 10-20 and I love it. It's a fun lens and great for car shows. I've shot with a Tamron 12-24 and I didn't think the image quality was as good. Plus I wanted the little extra wide angle.

Thanks, Predator (Adam?, sorry I forget).
Ok, some sort of redemption and I did use that method, set to 100 ISO and then decided what kinda blur I wanted and adjusted speed accordingly.
Redemption?

The pics look much better, a lot more sharp than the other ones. I can't see the settings on my phone... if you're looking for a blurred background, put more distance between the car and the house. It will help out more with the bokeh.

A million times better. This is the only way you learn. By trying it out for yourself and comparing.
Want to really challenge yourself? Take 36 pictures in one day without looking at the preview (LCD screen on the camera) and without erasing any. That will REALLY force you to learn.

^^^You didn't like my joke about your car?!! I love your car.
Thanks fellaz...ok, another tactic I'll have to give a shot to! Well, I'll throw the 50MM lens back on with my newfound info for the next batch.
Rossv, go for it, man. I shared it with Ack in case anyone was interested in doing it. I like modded, but honestly, over time I ended up disliking the ghost/clear/white look...so I was really happy that this looked kinda oem, but kinda not.

Thank you, thank you and thank you!
I appreciate all the comments, fellas!
J.
small update, removed the license plate frame I had on there. Thanks to Tyler Penguin for the suggestion...I think I forgot how much I liked the clean look. I even removed the CF wrap I had framed it out with...was kinda over it.
dark morning phone quality, my bad. but you get the idea...I like the whole light colored plate showing...makes the rear look more drawn and wide (optical illusion? like pleats in your pants...from the pant store?) Betty agreed...the CF on the horizontal lines was a bit BUSY.

I love your Tail lights man! Your car is always fresh bro! And like I said to Tyler, RDX brake covers on the rear calipers they would look sick, esp when rolling and someone takes a shot of the rear like that.

Replace it with a Carbon Fiber license plate holder!
#6349
LOL...I HAD the CF license plate holder but I think it looks cleaner without. I put it on Betty's car for now.
TLGirl, what you talking about? My pictures are starting from like 4 years ago to current. Which ones in particular you talking about?

HA! I didn't even catch that. I've been pretty good this year about remembering dates. I have to enter a date on an excel spreadsheet constantly and have a formula that counts days since so when that number goes negative, it's my cue that I put in 2012 by accident!
Thanks Steven Bell.

Steven Bell, this update is for you. I may have been a little quick to dump real CF plate frame. Put it on Betty's for a few days...but decided I wanted to give it another whirl, my plate looked plain.
Also, gave my tripod a whirl. Not the best, but my first attempt at low light with no OTHER light to help out.
