Ok lets do it but, here are some couple things that holds me
I love the orange look more than clear, because if I remove it, headlight will get lost in ASM color. Also I like how the silver stripe stands out between the orange parking cover.
If we paint the housing black
it will look good but then wouldn't black lower the brightnes of the HIDs to the road?
---
Actually instead of black, can we use grayish color? So it matches the grill and fenders?
Like..
Gray housing + remove the orange cover + paint that stripe to gray
But would definitely leave inside of the signal/park as it is to not reduce the brightness
Edit:
This looks god too with Type-S diffuser

Nice and clean + close to stock

If you like the amber then we can do something OEMish yet still sporty such as retaining the amber diffusers but blacking out all the non-functional bits of the headlights.
Here is what blacked out V2 with amber diffusers will look like.

here is another option, we can paint the blacke pieces in the headlights matte silver to match the grill pieces, keep the chrome piece chrome still

another option, blacked out V2 with partial amber diffusers.

Here is how gunmetal headlights will look like on SSM

Any of the above will look good on SSM. Blacked out if you want aggressive look where as cleared if you want to keep a clean OEM look.
Painting the internals does not affect output as we are not painting anything to hinder low beam output.

Wow thanks for that post!!
Ok..so,
51% - Loved the first one with black out inside and stripe + Orange
49% - Last one looks nice too, with leaving stripe as it is and painting just the orange reflector part to black,
but reason I want the orange reflector is because light (brightness) completes the edges totally, which looks good...
I think will go with first picture, gimme a little bit of time

If you want to keep amber...I dig that blacked out one with the Amber diffuser...looks nice and dark without losing that OEM look.
I originally just used VHT nightshades on my Amber diffuser...so it looked blacked out, but would reflect amber when on. (I DID partially black out the reflector behind it and would NOT recommend doing that because it kills output)

Ahaaa that's smart actually, thanks J.
If car was darker paint, definitely would go total black with white LEDs
But I guess I like the orange with ASM
Black out with black stripe + leave the orange
Jnc can I come by this weekend? Next weekend would be better actually

Nooooo it didn't help, it put another idea into my head
hahaha
So it looks black but when you turn on the lights it's orange huh?
Because I kind of liked the last ASM picture Jnc posted too
Thinking total black with ASM...might look good
And orange would stay when you turn on light
ROCKSTAR!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I think he is in Bedford, 6-7 miles away from me.

Yeah I always liked that SSM
His does look good because all he played was SSM and Black
but even my grill is like grayish plastidip + fenders
So I'll just stay away from total black headlight.

You like some orange?
Go with Type-S diffusers.
I was the same way with my TL - wanted the orange to add contrast.
Didn't want to clear or wrap the amber pieces of my Type-S diffusers in carbon fiber.
MOAR SSM!

Thanks gp gut I don't want Type-S.. I'm UA6 bishes
If I get the Type-S diffuser gp, then I would totaly clear the side, no orange
But many members have that or just clearing it without Type-S diffuser
Leaving the orange, turning chrome into black would give it a diffrent look.
I asked JnC if he could do some kind of tint to the amber pieces to give them smoke look.
Like J's idea...not totaly black but, a litttle smoke look.
+ Love that picture of yours!! Background is lovely
Edit:
Anil
hahaha
Yes he is going to kill me gp
I am not Type-S, me no like
J got into my head on the second color for the car... to paint the rings

Steven I want the clean and sport look
nothing else comes to my mind other than this

Thanks to J.!!!!!!!!
I started thinking about painting the HID ring
What if we paint it dark orange?
And when I get the Brakemotive set after winter, paint the calipers to dark orange?
I think I just saw McCollins23
Orange everyhwhere haha

May I PLEASE say YES to your idea but with one mild change...instead of orange, let's do it burnt copper color.
Your calipers to match...blacked out amber diffuser with copper projector ring. Maybe some Copper lugs...
We have a winner...
Your thoughts?

May I kiss the bride now?
Loved it
So basicly diffuser will be like this? Orange after lights are on

How about the chrome stripe? Burnt copper color too?
Like the rings?

I LOVE the Q7! Congrats, man!
Honestly, I was kinda torn about whether or not to do the chrome strip in a matching color...it's a fine line between cool and looking a bit OVERDONE. I think if you color match the inner bezel to ASM (the chrome around the fog/low beam) and maybe paint he chrome bar to ASM too, it'll give the best contrast.
I'd also suggest looking into one of those VERY strong 96 all AMBER led bulbs for your turn signal. The night shades doesn't cut down on brightness as much as you'd think, believe it or not. As long as you don't paint the chrome reflector BEHIND the amber diffuser, it'll still light up great.
As for color...this is more like the one that I meant...
Called VHT (High Temp) Burnt Copper...that way you can do it to the projector ring AND your calipers eventualy.
If you didn't see, this is how it ended up looking on my engine covers!

Good luck, buddy! I'm sure whatever you end up doing will be awesome.

Uh oh...we've got some concurrence.
Honestly, at one point I thought about changing up my theme to copper too!
Copper (burnt orange) on silver, black or white...
AWESOME!

I am definitely up for that color guys... and thanks to J.
I wanted orange too and that's the perfect tone, copper one. Always loved his engine bay anyway.
"Honestly, I was kinda torn about whether or not to do the chrome strip in a matching color...it's a fine line between cool and looking a bit OVERDONE"
^Exactly.. that's why I was confused on that part too. Might be too much.
I guess we should just paint the ring with copper.
Inner bazel to ASM
But I want the dark theme inside the headlight, isn't close to ASM look right now with chrome..
What I think now...
-Bezel to black (JnC said he his matte black sometimes look grayish in sun light)
I guess tone will perfectly match with copper.
-Ring to paint copper
-Leave the chrome strip as
-Night shades to the amber pieces BUT no total black... stopping at a tone that will give burned orange color to it
^this way, if I leave a dark orange look on the amber pieces, we could paint the chrome strip to black
(which I want so bad to get rid of chromes)
Because I wouldn't want black and black on that signal area like the picture up above.
Let me see today if Autozone has the paint, if not, I'll order it.
Thanks guys
So.. agree on amber piece being dark orange (burned)?

Like J's setup with the signal/park area but ASM is the only reason I don't want clear Type-S diffuser
Dark burned orange color with black stripe in the middle, would make it stand out so nice and look different... wouldn't it?
Instead of total black night shades on the amber piece
Don't know yet if JnC could give that dark orange look to it but...
-
Brother said that dad is thinking premium plus or something for the Q7 but nooooo way
I am going to show the difference of S-Line to mom and also in white color too
..so she doesn't want the other ones haha
-
Ahaaaaaaaaaa
J. are you going to let me paint my blue engine bay to that color though?

LOL...way to upsell her!
IMO,
nightshades the amber diffuser...make it black.
Do your burnt orange copper color on the chome strip and the headlight bezel. Since you REALLY want that contrast, that'll look awesome. I think it would be a mistake to have amber showing from the diffuser because it'll look like you spray painted your diffuser rather than just looking black.
Matte black on the chrome bezel though...that'll look awesome! You're right about it being not enough contrast and not getting the "dark" look if you do silver on that.
Maybe someone can photoshop it...vht nightshades on amber...dark enough to look black...chrome strip burnt orange...projector ring burnt orange...chrome bezel matte black...fog housing nipple matte black?
Worst case, you can paint the chrome strip copper...if it sucks...have JNC paint it to silver or gunmetal.

I'll do the photoshop later on tonight
Thinking since this morning. Ok that sounds nice
Which is just like your old setup

+
projector ring burnt orange
and I'll leave the chrome strip, and the fog housing nipple as it is
so I have the chrome tone on sides + nice little orange detail of prejector ring at the middle

Repainted pearl white, removed keyhole while i was at it..nothing new sadly..i am looking into that license plate relicator..but I'm leaning towards something centered..like the flip up ones..ill do the photobucket thing when in a few..
I def just posted in the wrong place..but repainted pearl white..no more mods sadly..looking to do the license plate relocator but i want something centered..possibly the flip up set up.
Photobucket pics..need to get a hold of some more decent pics..

Thanks man..the hids are from ebay and are definitely not the colors they are supposednto b..well one is. And the rear is under construction..I'm looking for the quad exhaust tips for starters..but the funds arent where they should b..
I will go for this one, yes including matte black fog housing nipple, and burned orange strip
DONE.
Anyone disagree?

JnC
do you have this paint?
When I had my SSM, I blacked the headlights out and painted the chrome reflector behind the amber diffuser black, but left still left the diffuser orange. During the day, they looked pretty much fully blacked out with just a hint of orange but when you turned the lights on or used your blinker, they looked stock and the orange still showed through.
Here's a link to the thread I made after I did them if you want to check it out.
