Smile Kaiii's '07 CBP Type-S Progress Thread

Hi! Welcome to my new (slow) progress thread. As I posted before, I recently bought a 2007 CBP TLS w/ about 70K miles on it, and couldn't be happier. After some thinking (and balancing of the books) I think I've decided on a few initial mods (many very minor ones), and I thought I'd post it up to get everyone's opinion / feedback.

Note: I'm a SUPER newb when it comes to cars, but learning about cars and being able to work on them myself has always been an aspiration. Any opinions or feedback would be appreciated! Also, suggestions on mods I should do are VERY welcome, as I have close to no idea what I'm doing haha. Just for starters, I think I'm inclined toward the H-Tech springs over the full Tein SS kit since I don't want it too low. Also don't want the ride to be too rough. Also debating about color of both the calipers/covers and the fog lights. I think that yellow fogs with red calipers is a bit gaudy. What do you guys think? After some research on AZ, I think I'll try to do the following soon:

Coming up on the to-do list:
-Tein H-Tech Springs (to put on stock shocks)
-Type-S A-Spec Front Lip (The back and sides look so similar to me that it's not really worth it for me IMO)
-White LED interior lighting
-Repaint front calipers (maybe Red??) and install caliper covers on the rear (either RDX or ghetto ebay "Brembo" ones)
-Change fog light housings, as my passenger side one was cracked when I bought the car. (Clear or yellow...hmmm)
-Plasti-Dip Grill
-Open to more suggestions!!

Here's some of my pictures from the other thread. No interior pics until I do something, but it's Ebony/Silver and is stock.

Welcome!

I'd suggest you get the entire lip kit, you will notice the differences after putting on just the front.
The rest of the mods you're planning to do is great though, very moderate.

The car looks great, but will look even better with the springs I have for sale.

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to think about it more...I was scared that if I did just do the front that it would look awkward / imbalanced. But da monies...

entire aspec kit may be difficult to find, particularly the side skirts due to the fact that honda/acura no longer carries that part in CBP. the way around this is typically to buy a different colored part that they still have available and having it repainted CBP. they still carry the front and rear aspec underspoilers though.

another option is to find someone selling theirs on the blackmarket.

Thx for the tip. I didn't know they discontinued CBP. Seems odd that they'd stop carrying the best color...

If that's the case I'll probably start with the front and add on as it goes, while keeping an eye out for any for sale side skirts. Might get a quote from AckTL05/Bruce for both instead of just the front as well, and see how it goes from there.

Yeah, unfortunately it's about that much. Go to USPS.com and calculate it. Shipping from 34202. Box dimensions are 17x11x11. Weight is 25lbs.

If you're going to get lowering springs, I would suggest upgrading from stock shocks to something aftermarket too. Car looks great.

Thx! In time, in time...haha. It's not common for that to happen though right? It seems like a lot of people are running H-Tech on stock shocks without a problem (at least in my limited observation)

It's obviously on a case by case basis and all based on anecdotal experiences but one thing is for certain and that is that you are putting additional stress on your stock shocks and decreasing their overall lifespan with aftermarket springs. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

Thx for the advice good sir. Based on this I'll be looking into a few aftermarket options like you mentioned. Hopefully I can get the springs from Predator and we'll go from there. I guess it'd also be a good idea to get my mechanic to check on the current life/wear on my oem shocks right away.

On your old car or the new KBP?

I decided not to go with yellow fogs. Still debating brake color though, now leaning towards red. Also eventually planning to vinyl-wrap the grille, following the DIY on here...

Edit:
Looks like Predator sold his H-Techs off before I could snag them Gonna have to keep an eye out for these.

On my old car, but I will be switching them over to my new one once I get a spare moment. It's a ton of work doing all these mods at one time and swapping everything over. Finding the time is almost impossible.

One of the dealership vendor on here is where I got my full Apsec kit in CBP. They only had a few left and that was in January. I'd look into the Progress RSB and even the Aspec suspension. The Tein springs you're looking at are a good buy.

Was it Bruce/AckTL05? I totally forgot the RSB! I friend of mine installed one on his 07 TSX and it made a world of difference. I'll probably look into it sometime down the line. I think springs / A Spec will be first.

Speaking of which, I still WTB good condition used H-Techs if I can find them on the black market. If not, this is the cheapest "legit-looking" site I can find them at right now: AUTOANYTHING
If anyone knows where I could get them cheaper please let me know!!

No it was oemacuraparts.com or something like that. It's basically the parts section of some Acura dealership. The Progress bar is easily top 5 mods for this car. There's a set of Koni Yellows for sale on the BM right now with springs for $450. I've also seen the H Techs and S Techs go for pretty cheap.

I'd also check outthe RV6 V3 jpipe. Adds some decent sound and some power.

I'll second everything he said. I need to get a Progress RSB myself. There is one for sale in the BM but I bet it's loads to ship. Most of the azine vendors that I checked out no longer stock the Progress RSB.

Welcome

Get the A-spec kit first, everything else you can get anytime the kit is gonna get harder to get the longer you wait. I got my whole kit from Stevens creek Acura all CBP. Im running S-tech on stock struts, with stock wheels feels close to stock ride with better handling. I've had springs on for about 4 months with no issues.

Just ordered my lip kit from Bruce / AckTL05 - can't wait to get it
I'm like 15 mins from Stevens creek though haha. Where in the Bay are you at? Also I like the S-Tech springs, but they're a bit low for my tastes.

That's the one that replaces the 3rd cat right? I think that's a project I might look into next year, along with the sway bar. (I'm pretty much going to just do some aesthetic makeovers for now, then do some more performance mods next year after driving it stock for a while ) Yeah, I'm on the prowl for some H-Techs or even the H&R's - checking the BM err' day.

Nice, do you know if there are any meets going on up here? (hopefully in South/East bay?) I'm pretty new to AZ so I haven't heard of anything official yet. Post pictures of your tail lights to give me ideas!! I'm getting my A-Spec and some CF Vinyl through Bruce right now, maybe we'll give him some more business soon haha

A-Spec will look great!

One thing to keep in mind - If you are getting aftermarket springs and aftermarket shocks to go with them...you could likely just get adjustable coils instead. I did springs on stock shocks for about 3 or 4 weeks, then switched out to coils.

Hmm..Just wondering - how come you decided to swap the springs out after only 3-4 weeks? Did you have problems?

Thx! Yea currently looking into some places around my neighborhood. Gonna try to keep it close to legal, but tint would be lovely esp. in the California sun.

Finished putting some white LED's in the interior today. It looks a LOT better than the amber halogen bulbs. Excuse the crappy camera phone quality w/ shoddy low light sensitivity. Couldn't be happier with these

IntLEDInstall2_zps0681c365.jpg?t=1376981042
Sup Pikachu.

IntLEDInstall3_zps8e7b5607.jpg?t=1376981044

Just got my CF vinyl in the mail from Bruce.
A-Spec lip and paint for brake calipers come in on Thursday, as well as caliper covers for the rear to match - can't wait to get these done and post pics up soon

similar situation to KJ TL-S, i had springs on for about 1 week and then switched to coilovers. they just give you so much more flexibility in ride height and ride comfort. you can make it exactly to how you want it. go coilovers!
