Well just scraped the J-Pipe for the 1st time. It was heart breaking. The connector flange between the J-Pipe and exhaust hangs so low -__-

WOW really?

From what I have heard the RV6 exhaust sits "flusher" (if you will) to the car...has more clearance than the OEM system....

The piping sits more flush but that triangular flange hangs pretty darn low. I'm not even that low. And it was one of those small bumps on the road. Terrified of driving it now.

something isn't right if you're scraping that jpipe.

i've had mine on for years and i'm lower than just about anyone i know and i've never even put a mark on it.

what exactly did you run over?

^^^Aaron, you're also on 19's...maybe you're slightly higher, or better at judging what not to drive over, or driving an explorer most of the time?

I scraped my flex AND my "J" Portion of the tubing many, many times. The flex i ended up making those skid plates for with pieces of steel and hose clamps.

Don't be scared to drive, scraping isn't the worst thing in the world...it just means you're doing it right!

Yea I'm not sure if there is something wrong but I thought about it and there is no wrong way to install that J-Pipe.

When you look from the side what is the lowest point of the exhaust for you guys? For me its that triangular flange connecting the J-Pipe to the catback. The triangle points down and that point is what scrapes.

I was driving on a flat road making a left turn. The road was uneven and there was a bump maybe 2 inches high - I went over it and on the decline it scraped very lightly.

Going to put car back on stands today and try to readjust the exhaust as well as play with the hangers to try to get the middle of the exhaust to sit higher up. If weather permits I'll make some more vids.

Yup, my J pipe to exhaust flange is all fucked up too.

It is the lowest point on my car and hits every time I pull in and out of my garage. I go at the biggest angle I can get, but it still scrapes.

Horrible design if you ask me. They should have tilted the triangle differently to have the bottom flat.

But Richie I am sure was just following the OEM pattern so that J-pipe and/or exhaust will work independently.

Low Life problems.

I luckily have some aftermarket hangers that are adjustable so I used those and used them on the shortest setting. It raised it a bit but its still pretty dam low.

Also managed to straighten out the RV6 clamp but for life of me cannot get the exhaust to center horizontally. It's too close to the center on one side and farther away on the other. Tried everything. I give up.

Managed to fix distance from bumper by putting a ghetto spacer between the hangers to push them farther down. I tried doing it the way mentioned in the manual but it's not doing anything.. Having OCD sucks.

It's shouldn't be that hard, we tested and tweaked each exhaust before shipping. Where are you using the aftermarket hangers? We designed the exhaust using the stock hangers. Trying the raise is in some areas might throw things off in others.

What do you mean by "center horizontally" you might have to have someone hold the muffler where you want it before tightening it down.

The hangers are being used in the J-Pipe hanger and the mid muffler hanger. It probably raised the center up less then a quarter inch.

The tips are just not centering in the rear lip slot. I've loosened all the clamps and tried to center them but they won't go any further to the center. It looks like the entire exhaust needs to shift over to the right half an inch. I tried playing with the pipes by extending them pushing them in to move them to the center but they are both maxed and it is still not centered. It's fine. I don't really care anymore. You don't notice unless you try to look for it.

If Rich would have changed the way the triangle is oriented, he would have alienated anyone that didn't have his jpipe, or ANY jpipe for our car.

Yep. He was just following the OEM design. If you were really scraping badly you could get an exhaust shop to cut and reweld the flanges so they are flat to the ground

if you were going to that extent; might as well drop that flange and have a true X pipe welded in.

hmm Richie you should make a batch of special J-Pipes and catback connectors that have a true x pipe. For those who are running the entire RV6 system. More +1s for going with RV6 over the competition.

Try adjusting the mid muffler hanger more towards the direction you want to go. Raising the exhaust with the hangers might be cocking the whole system since the muffler hangers still in the sample place.

When you say "true x pipe", do you just mean that the flange is replaced with a straight-through design? If not, what else?

I think that an RV-6 turbo would probably be my final purchase...

I know that Richie mentioned it a while back... Has there been any development done with this?

Brianch, honestly man I had to re-adjust my exhaust about 4 times to get it where I wanted it. Plus the driver side wiggled out a couple times and I had to readjust that. To the point I almost had it welded in. But I re-loosened everything including the back piece that holds the 2 pipes together before the final mufflers.

The tips still stick a little further out in the back but after looking at a type S with an A-spec kit, once I get my A-spec kit installed it will be back to flush.

As with any aftermarket parts, some fitting is to be expected. Don't let this hamper your thoughts of this exhaust. Just keep working on it and let it settle in a little. Then adjust.

SilverBostonTLS? or Morrisey? had this same problem I do believe. You are not the first one.

no doubt. The quality and fitment is very good. I just have to tinker with it over time (which I expected)

I am looking in to replacing the 3 bolt flange between the J-Pipe and Catback with a 2 bolt for more clearance in the meantime to get more clearance.

I have some tips that Richie might be coming out with a solution for us soon I guess he will tell us when he is ready.

my clearance:

that is a small speedbump. most bumps in the road as as big as this.

thinking about replacing it with this kind of flange

I was thinking the same thing, if you're so low that you'd bang up your oem flange, I don't see why Richie would go to the expense. I'm not saying I don't hope he does and makes people happy, but I'm pretty low and I can clear most speed bumps. I would say that it's it's an issue, cut the bottom flange angle off and have a weld run across the bottom and use the 2 bolts up top.
