The Comptech Supercharger Will Be Here Nov. 05
#162
Yesterday I went to sunny and warm El Dorado Hills and had Comptech install a catback exhaust and new swaybar on my 04 TL. While I was there I asked about the S/C. I was told that they are still having problems with the software. They have hired a couple of outside software firms to assist. Honda is also assisting, but at arms length. It seems to be an issue with the low emissions vehicle status. I was told, "maybe in the fall".

Like i said before....Typical Comptech...always jumping the gun on release dates. I'm sure since they are having to hire more help this will mean more cost on the system. F that...not worth it

I wonder if Comptech doesn't have this project high up on their priority list of things to complete. Maybe we should all start calling in and inquiring about the update of this product and why release dates are released when the product isn't ready. I mean why even advertise such projects only to give yourself a deadline before people start getting a little anxious; unless you can adhear to a deadline set by yourself? Is Comptech very competent? Hmmm, wonder if they have an HR dept. or hiring for it.

I don't know why I even fathome the problem of the S/C for the 3G TL over there at Comptech but...
I wonder if a standalone would work for them; AEM has one that I like and use it for my Turbo Integra. It is a true plug and play (plug and play with the settings... not play on the road) so I can only imagine that if AEM had this for our TL that with a GOOD TUNE this option would be better than any other piggy-back system that Comptech creates for there S/C.
On the other hand, maybe Comtech already has a tune for it but needs to be retooled so that it is still ULEV; maybe they are jumping through hoops to get it so the TL remains under factory warr.
One way or another why aren't they telling us the whole story?!

Comptech is a small company that's been around for about 14 years. Their original business plan was to provide high performance solutions. One of their engines won the Indy 500 recently. Not too long ago they changed their business plan to include after market specialty equipment. I was told that they hope to make a profit at it soon.
The way I look at is, if Comptech doesn't produce an S/C who will? Are there any other companies out there working on one? They may be overly optimistic in their dates, but at least they have the integrity to ship only when it's ready.

Yeah good point I'll have to agree with you there. But then again maybe there ARE companies out there that are making one but just won't leak this information out. This way they can avoid having to stick a completion date upon themselves and can be much more flexible without trying to meet expectations.
Honestly. I'd rather be ignorant to any project of this type and just be pleasantly suprised if/when released rather than have my expectations set to only be constantly shot down.

Not to defend Comptech in particular, but any quality company hopes to be out on a deadline, but things happen. The prototype might be ready but problems can arise when mass producing. unless you are a HUGE co like Acura or Ford, its hard to be right on and anticipate small problems when developing a new product from scratch. As long as quality is high, i'm sure people will appreciate the hard work that goes into the SC. If you think building parts for a car is a headache, image the delays when it comes to construction and car building, now those are headaches.

Waste of your money...
GUYS, Cmon, think!!!!!!!!!!!!
SIXTY Horsepower for at least $3500??? WTF..
Go and get an M3 for you 60 extra HP - plus it has the suspension and brakes, and REAR wheel drive to handle it (No I don't have one)..
But, good luck on your decision..
Me? I am waiting, and saving, for the GT-500.

Put the FWD can't handle the power argument to rest already. Until you've driven one of these cars with that much FWHP you really have nothing to stand on. My car has nearly the same identical drivetrain as the 3rd Gen TL and I make over 300whp/300wtq with no torque steer.
It will cost more than $3,500 for the 3rd Gen TL kit, no doubt about it. This kit is far more complex and advanced than the 2nd Gen J-Series kits. No one said modifying these cars is cheap. An additional 60WHP in a 3rd Gen TL will totally transform the car. It will honestly feel as if a torquey V8 has been stuffed into the engine bay.
And last time I checked the price of admission for an M3 was alot more than just $3,500 more than the TL. If that was the case the TL would never sell.

At this point Comptech should just say they don't have a S/C yet because that is exactly what they have, nothing for the public at this time.
I thought this thread was also interesting https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/claybar-new-car-question-99447/

Your better off throwing a 75 shot of Nitrous on your car, for a fraction of the cost and leave it at that.
I'm sure the kit with shipping will be close to 5 grand or more..... unless it comes with a clone of Jessica Alba screw that.

D do you have any Comptech vendor contacts? If not and if/when this ever comes out let me know if your interested and I could probably get you a good price. I've been very lucky in the past.

I'm starting to plan on tearing down my turbo hot rod and selling it so I'll be buying one for sure simply to tame the urge for a new race car. Really I see getting the s/c for my TL as a money saving thing since it will prolong the start of a new project which always costs way more than anticipated.

BTW since they can't get the SC,
do you think I can at least order the Jessica Alba clone?

the SC gets you and can the TL's suspension handle that if you use the extra HP.

I would be a little hesitant to throw NOS into an untuned vehicle. Unless a chip is available to modify the fuel tables.. I wouldnt jump the gun. Also has anyone see what NOS does to the internals of an engine... The engine might run fine for a while, but it does take a toll on the internals.
3500 for 60 rwhp isnt bad... granted once different sizes pulleys are added the result might be higher (larger lower, smaller upper), also tuning could be a factor as well....
