Most 3G TL customers choose the AEM V2 intake.

are you going for power or for sound??? i took out the stock silencer on the stock intake and i have decent sound out of it... you get the sucking sound when you blip the throttle and good deep tone under wot... plus its free... may not gain the most power but for me being a daily i dont mind

An intake is an intake, the aem v2 has a bit bigger diameter as you can see resulting in a little more air I would guess. Colder the air the denser the air creating more power, a cone filter alone over a stock intake is a nice upgrade. I have a heat wrapped intake I believe its an injen.

Exactly

Thanks for the dyno. The gains seems small at 7 hp at 5500 rpm, but it is some gain. I don't know , the TL has a kind of Cold Air intake stock. I had a CAI before and nearly got hyrdolocked where I live, so I am cautious.
Based on the 10.3 hp gain for the J30 with the K&N intake, it seems to me the Accord factory intake system is more restrictive than the TL.
Obviously a well constructed intake design is going to make more power but for a free mod, its more than good enough.
not denying an increase in sound at all, and its a good increase, sounds a lot better. Not sure what the difference is between the stock intakes of the accord vs the tl but in my car it was drawing air from slightly above the radiator, then down into the resonator box, then back up into the air box. All that is bypassed and air is pulled from the fender straight into the airbox through larger diameter tubing than where the system was originally pulling in air, a much less restricted and far shorter path. I can't see how there aren't at least some minimal gains.

follow the blue arrows.
Cold air gets introduced from the lower grill area.
It then follows the tubing up to the battery area.
This tubing at the battery area is special. this piece of tubing is called a velocity stack. (a velocity stack is designed to suck up the most air) you can see it in the diagram as the arrows turn from blue to orange.
this jump or space also prevents water being sucked up by the engine.
While it's not a true cold air intake.
It is a cold air induction system which provides pretty decent gains.
This is why, if you just added an aftermarket cold air intake you'll barely see any gains. *
*only after you've free'd up your exhaust and did a port and polish of the intake manifold would you see gains from more air flow.
and removing the resonator and adding the stock velocity stack would pull in cooler air and be one of the best free mods available.

A CAI will add such an insignificant amount of HP, you'll never notice it. It will make a cool sound, that's about it. Spend the money on a RSB or save up for suspension or something. These debates on expensive CAIs are pretty funny.

6-7 whp was what the K&N CAI gained. It's not going to throw you back in your seat but it's worth the $250-$300 cost when you think on average in this industry it costs about $100 per hp. An engine is a big air pump; if you can flow air more freely you make more power.
