Follow the BLUE arrows.
Cold air gets introduced from the lower grill area.
it then follows the tubing UP to the battery area.
this tubing at the battery area is SPECIAL. this piece of tubing is called a velocity stack. (a velocity stack is designed to suck up the most air) you can see it in the diagram as the arrows turn from BLUE to ORANGE.
this jump or space also prevents water being sucked up by the engine.

While it's not a TRUE cold air intake.
it is a cold air induction system which provides pretty decent gains.
this is why, if you just added an aftermarket cold air intake you'll barely see any gains. *

*only after you've free'd up your exhaust and did a port and polish of the intake manifold would you see gains from more air flow.

buy a different car.

or you already have a sleeper right now.
its quick enough to hold its own.

but if you must, why not just look through some of these older threads? you certainly found this one!
I'll mention the Jpipe and then you can do your homework!

sorry for the bump but being that I'm a newbie I didn't want to flood the forum with a bunch of new threads.

So my understanding the best mods for a 08 TL-S are the following:

AEM CAI
J-PIPE
PCD
UR Crank Pulley

because of my job and using my TL as a daily I can't remove the stock mufflers (will become to noisy my boss says..) I'm stuck with those mods as a "temp"?

I know in the future I can add the 3.7 intake/ TB setup but I just wanted to get a idea of what mods will work for now.

PS: So theres no supercharger kit that will fit the 3.5? only 3.2s? I seen theres a turbo kit for the 3.5.... but that will be last if I choose that route. Thanks for any replies.

like that shit is UGLY and ANNOYING noisy.
v3 PCDs-->v3 Jpipe-->stock exhaust.

"WTF, THATS NOT A LUXURY CAR SOUND"

But it does produce the most power of any bolt on, short of supercharging.
and yes, the supercharger will fit the 3.5
but without a proper tune...

So, you need to rethink your mods.
or dont do any mods at all.
or say FUCK YOU BOSS its my car and ima do what I want

awesome! thanks now I gotta find a member/youtube video of the 3.5 with a S/C.

I'm just heading into the TL world... so I know I'll sound stupid for a bit, but I promise I'm not retarded when it comes to cars, I'm just not used to finding info on this site yet.

if you google "acurazine + whatever you're thinking of" im sure it will pop up.

please research a little about how inefficient the m62 blower is for even the 3.2
if you put it on the 3.5...
HEAT is the killer of all things. it needs a proper tune.

also, I do have a video of my "rasp" as we call it.

Here's a dyno of my car.
I made 241 with just v3PCDs and V3 jpipe

yeah I'm not hearing a "rasp" i mean thats quiet ha. My beater right now is a honda accord (4 cylinder) with a cannon thats what my boss hates. but your's still sounds quiet.

and if that supercharger is undersized... well then I guess thats outta the picture. I just wanted some nice get up and go for all my driving (i'm in sales average around 40-45k a year) so a fun car matters.

^agreed.

the first vid i posted gives you sort'of an idea. the second one is ok on the dyno, just gotta sift through the long vid and find the sweet spots.

my car is pretty loud when i get on it....not much you can do about it.

sharksbreath your cars is one of those ones i was saving pics of, looks damn good. I hate how the gopro's mess the sound up but it doesn't seem to bad... I guess I'll make it to a meet and have to check our a car with some exhaust mods.

now I clicked around and seen the j&r ecu... benefits? is it just like a DIY standalone? can I use a e85 with it? eliminate the 130mph governor? ahh guess I got something more to read about besides the hondata ecu

^are you local? there is a meet on 1/13/13 that a bunch of us are going to.

check out the regiona section for "great falls meet"

and i sold that JnR ECU for numerous reasons that i dont wanna get into right now. but hondata is releasing a flash pro early next year you can hop on.

i might get it myself for ease of tunability. (not sure if thats a word, but i'm gonna go with it)

I'm in pittsburgh,pa so semi "local". Sadly I won't be picking my car up till after the first of the year because of the holidays(08 type-s, a-spec white with ebony interior 5AT ). But that meet is out because my bday is the day before... and well I party hard so I won't be able to drive ha. I'll be snagging mods here soon tho because... well its winter and my project cars dont see snow so the TL will need some love.

I just did a quick read on the j&r ecu thread, so I understand why you got rid of it. I can tune cars and have access to a dyno so I can strap up anytime and spend hours playing with tunes .

it doesn't fit because of the alternator bracket and some elbow. but I think u can cut and redo something to make it fit. RL engine- TL engine. different.

I've been looking to buy a type s shortly.

I'm buying as my daily but some added power would be great!
I don't want it loud though. From reading through here it seems best bet is a jpipe, intake and pulleys? ( do those have any issues on this car?) I know on my s2000 car they have shown to bust and throw off balancing etc.

The jpipe removes the 3rd car I read. Will it still pass with the 2 pre cats in?

I'd also be grabbing a flashpro as soon as I got my car. Hoping for 25whp/tq or so with those couple mods and a tune.

.
Some of the Jpipes remove the 3rd cat( Long j-pipe) others leave it in place so you would need the 'test pipe' But you could pass the visiual test with the 3rd cat on

They are VERY similar.
I would not choose either over the other based off power/dyno charts.
Because they are similar.
I would choose a pipe over the other based off price/customer service/whoever rubs you the right way.

I went with RV6 because he was having a sale and offered his pipe for $50 less than the others.
Money talks.

Very good thread, as I came over from 8th gen with my Civic Si to TL type S M/T.
Thanks for the info in the thread, just what I was looking for.
To answer your question, Hondata flashpro allows you to tune your car programming the ECU. It is only available for 07/08 TL ECU. It is great, as I have it for my tuned 08 Civic Si.

Last, I have a question, is anybody running High Flow Cats on the first 2 cats, and a J Pipe which deletes the 3rd cat? I wanted to know about this setup, as I don't want pre - cat deletes or too much noise in what I call a luxury sports sedan.

What do you want to know about it???? sure, some one some where has the combination, but if you ask your real question maybe we can help you figure out if its right for you.

I want to know if somebody is running the high flow cats with the j pipe, what gains they got? Did they dyno the car with the setup? Are the gains nill, and it is not worth the money? How is the sound, aggressive, mellow, not too loud /raspy?
Thanks man.
