I took my car to a local auto repair shop for an oil change. I asked the mechanic if he could install the Greddy exhaust. He said he couldn't do it because he doesn't have the right tools to do it because it an aftermarket exhaust. I told him that this custom made and it should fit perfectly. He still didn't want to do it. DAMN IT.

I do believe the problem was that you used the term "mechanic" much too freely.
This is a shade tree mechanic job for sure.

Saw your other thread.

Cat back systems are suspended from rubber mounts. Mounting is not an exact science that uses tolerances spec'd to engine building. Upon installation, they often have to be "tweaked" to get them lined up properly. The right hanager point probably needs to be heated and bent a bit to get it even.

Good to hear that you have installed it. Now, you mentioned that the right side sits lower? Mine is exactly centered. But, when you first install it on the hangers and all the bolts hand tigthened, you start tightening the first flange (where 3rd cat is.) and then you have to adjust the two mufflers and have someone tighten the bolts. And also make sure you really push the hangers (the ones that are welded to the exhaust) into the rubber hangers so they are sitting natural, not being pulled or pushed. And then you will tighten one of the mufflers and then adjust the other and have someone tighten the bolts. This could take a few times to get it correctly aligned, but it is supposed to be centered evenly. The flanges are purposely made with some slack so that it is adjustable slightly, it is not a manufacturer issue. Many people have the misconception that you just hang them and tighten the flange bolts however way they are hanging as is. Hope this helps and relieves some people's worries.

I'm glad you like it, I REALLY like it a lot. Sounds very "luxury" if that makes any sense. Does not sound like the typical 4 banger ricer exhausts...not that I have anything against the sound of 4 banger, cuz I got a couple myself, but on the TL, this is the perfect tone.

Thank you for the explanation Topckret, paid off standing there and watching us install it huh?!

A few points i would like to mention....

1. The hangers do NOT need to be heated and bent!!!!!!

2. Lube is your friend!! don't be shy with the lube on the rubber hangers, it'll make your install A LOT easier. Just be sure to wipe off the excess from the system so it doesn't burn into the piping.

3. As for installation, there is to an extent, 'natural' play in the system since the bolt holes in the flanges are slightly larger than the bolts. B/c of this, at each of the 2 bolt flanges, there is room for adjustment. A lot of people do not realize this when they install exhaust systems, and this is especially important on Dual exit systems since it's easy to see if the tips are cock-eyed. Tighten the 3 bolt cat flange first, then only hand tighten the rest of the 2 bolt flanges. Have someone hold the mufflers in place (centered in the bumper cutout) and while they are holding it in place, tighten all the loose flanges. There was absolutely NO custom modification to this production system made on Topckrets car, and he was standing there the entire time of install to verify this.

PS. For Local Pickup appointments, you must call between the hours of M-F 9AM-6PM

I can verify this. They did not do ANY modifications to the system in any way. Just follow his directions and if you can get a buddy to help you out, (don't worry, he doesn't have to be mechanically inclined, just know how to tighten a bolt with a open wrech and a socket wrench) it'll make the job much quicker and easier.

I spoke with the shipping manager about that, he's going to do his best to keep costs low for our Canadian customers, but for certain reasons, the value of the exhaust cannot be claimed lower than it is.

All exhausts are shipping out via UPS, i hear that is cheaper than Fedex for Canada.
