It's behind the driver's dashboard lower cover.

From Sunnyside acura the "control unit (cabin)" under the left side lower kick panel. Item #7 is the receiver unit.

Planning a mod ?

Yeah,

Actually on my Remote Start I want to connect the Piezo Siren that chirps to confirm the door locks are locked. I want to connect the Remote start horn output to this so when I lock and unlock it chirps that horn rather than the regular horn. Also I want to see if I can extend the range using an external antenna

The keyless unit receives the RF keyfob data, decodes it and sends a driver1,2,3, lock unlock, disarm, trunk or panic signal over a 2-wire bus to the MCU. The MCU drives the
piezo or speaker.

The simplest way: Pick up a new piezo (speaker not buzzer) at rad shack, connect to your remote start unit and listen to it. As I recall piezo are like speakers so you send them an audio signal not just a voltage. This means the tone pattern of the TL chirp is likely generated by the MCU not the piezo. If your remote start unit generates a pulse train rather than just a voltage then a piezo might sound okay.

Search the web for the tech info on you remote or call their tech support and ask if it is compatible with a piezo speaker.

I wonder if we could mod the receiver with an antenna (a piece of wire accross the lower dash perhaps) to extend the pathetic range of our remote fobs?

Anyone wanna try?

It would be easier just to stick the fob up to your chin: Increased range for factory key fob?

Though that has worked well for me in the past (with OEM and Clifford fobs), I get no love from my TL fob. I would rather mod it to work better than get a little irritated when the chin trick doesn't work.

if you open the keylless entry modul, you'll see the antenna is just a peice of metal that is shaped like a square, i'm guessing you can just tie a peice of wire to that

you can always tape directly into the stock buzzer which is located in the driver side fender

Do you know where the VSA yaw-rate sensor is? Not planning to mod (risky!), just wanted to see it. I used to work for a firm that designs/builds them, wanted to see who made this one.

Just about any mod to the antenna should yield an increased range due to the stock location of the receiver located behind sheetmetal in the left footwell.

There are 2 ways to mod that might be considered.

1 - extend the 4 wire harness of the module and relocate the whole keyless box which is quite small. Relocation into a more central area of the car near the console may be enough but I think if there is less sheet metal near the Rx then it should work better.

2 - crack open the Receiver module and solder an insulated 24 or 28guage wire to the existing antenna wire and route it to an open area of the car, like under the dash. The Receiver unit is easily removed and the circuit pulled out without any tools. I can't say what wire would work best but it would need a good insulator so it does not short to any metal bits. Personally I'd try a single strand of the CAT5 UTP (blue jacket) which is solid core not the patch cord variety which has stranded conductors.
