Navi DVD player Not reading Disk. Need new DVD player..

Well, yesterday on my Day trip down to San Diego , my Navigation offically died. I'm getting an error message now when it starts to load. It doesn't load. I guess after 7 years it decided it had enough.. I took it to the Dealership and they said its a pricey repair. They basically send it out to Panasonic or whoever makes the DVD navi player, and they fix it and send it back to the dealership, cost around $500. OR I buy a new one cost around $1000 !!! For a stupid DVD player! The service rep said its a pretty common problem. My DISC isn't scratched. It's clearly the DVD players problem. So my question is - Does anyone know a tech shop that services these DVD players in the San Gabriel Valley area, (So cal).. (the service rep suggested I can get this repaired for cheaper ).. any help would be appreciated.

btw, its alpine that does the repair, it is $358 flat fee, I dont know why the dealer is telling you $500. and a new one costs much more than $1000(msrp is more like $3000), who is the dealer joking?

and no one except alpine has these parts so only they can repair them. the price used to be $158 but jumped up to $358 couple weeks ago. I know it sucks because I have a small problem with my dvd drive also, it wasnt worth $158 before to fix, and definitely isnt worth $358 now. My problem is with the main board, not the dvd reader mechanism(like most people). btw, its not an actual "dvd player" because it cannot play dvds, it only reads the navigation disc.

here are some pics when I worked on my navi drive, I guarantee you only alpine has these parts, I would have gotten mine fixed a long time ago if anyone else stocked the parts:

Thank for the reply! That sucks that the price went up two weeks ago! Damn.
Now I need to decide what to do. It sure is annoying, everytime I start up my Car I get the error message.. I see you have TVandNav2Go, was that your work around to fix it?

How did you know that your Navi had a problem with the main board?

^the TVnav2go was already installed when he bought the car and has nothing to do with the navigation unit. the nav2go is just a module that gives you multiple video sources for dvd players, game consoles, back up cameras, etc.

just send it to alpine if you're out of warranty. i'll be sending mine off soon.

just sent mine to alpine 2 days ago. just ship it out with a check for 358 and a letter describing the problem and return address. simple enough.

Hi Noober,

How many days did it took before you received the unit after repair?
Did your unit worked after installation?
Please advise. Thanks

My unit got sent back to Alpine in 2010 for evaluation and any needed repairs when my system acted up. I was told they're replacing the power supply in every unit they get in. No explanation why.

YES
same way you eject dvds from a computer dvd drive
use a paperclip insert on the tiny hole to push/force eject function

I get the warning occasionally when it is cold and my car sits for a few days. But after a couple minutes everything is working fine again. Plus the audio controls and trip computer work fine even with the DVD error message. What are you gonna do? Its 15+ year old technology. Probably won't bother fixing mine if it completely dies, Waze on my phone is great for traffic anyway.
