I usually splice into the cigarette lighter wires, since I never use the cigarette lighter for anything anyway. Haven't done that in my TL, because I long ago determined that radar detectors are pretty much pointless, but I had it that way in a Grand Cherokee, and 2 CRX's.

+1, wire it into your window lock switch. IDR what fuse it is, but it's in the kick panel fuse box. That way you can shut it on or off by using the window lock switch.

i used the hardwire kit.

I tapped fuse #32 ( i know it was an empty slot ) and wired that as the 12v trigger for a relay.

From that relay I power on my amp, crossover, GPS, and radar.

Relay obtains 12v constant from battery.

I routed the wires up the drivers side A pillar through the headliner to the radar.

ok got mine done last night. bought a kit on ebay for 7 bucks. have it to the left of the mirror right at the tint line. came out really good and love this location. makes it very easy to take off or turn down volume. last car i had it low and always had to reach for it.

took like 10min to do. hardest part was trying to find a ground for the wire its plastic everywhere.

oh i should add. i tapped the rear passenger window fuse. this way you can power it on off w/ the windows lock button kinda nice when driving through city and it gets annoying just quick off switch.
