Dice Silverline R4 and DOMs Installed in Canada DIY and lots of pics

Well here goes another DIY, I'm going to try and be as comprehensive as possible so that this should be the end all of Doms and Ipod integration installations. My end goal is a super clean install and to have video out from my Iphone to navi screen. I will also be adding an Vid+Audio AUX in the center console, since I feel no need for a back-up cam I'm going to use that as a Vid2 input.

My main purpose is to clarify for Canadians that all the Ipod integration stuff will work on our head units.

Things your going to need:
1. Doms PNP unit.
http://www.tvandnav2go.com/acura-tv-navigation.html

2. Dice R3/R4 silverline unit, R3(A) or R4(B) depends on whether you either: A) don't have XM or don't wish to retain it B) you do wish to retain it.

3. 07 Accord fog light switch and Harness
08V31-SDA-1M035 SWITCH, FOGLIGHT - $14.76
08V31-SDA-10130 FOGLIGHT SWITCH HARNESS - $18.45

4. Dvd Label from member izmyttz if he still has any left.

5. 6 foot RCA Y-cable for Aux audio in
www.monoprice.com

6. 2 15'+ Video cables
www.monoprice.com

7. Rca Wallplate with video port of the coupler type
www.monoprice.com

8. Testors flat black spray paint available at any hobby shop.

9. 4 25' spools of 18 AWG insulated automotive wire (4 colors too) (better to have too much than not enough)

10. Add-A-Circuit

11. Lots of wire looming. enough to cover the linear footage of all the wire. you can get pretty thin stuff though, mostly 4 18awg wires running through it.

11. T-taps 22-18AWG, butt connectors 22-18AWG, electrical tape

12. 1 toggle switch.

13. I also bought an extension cable for the Dice unit so that I could have the unit up behind the glove box and still have lots of cable in the center console. Dice does not have such a cable, but I found a direct fit on my favorite website. It's a MDIN8 M/F 1:1 cable, I believe apple used them back in the day for peripheral devices. It was a whopping $1.53 on http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

14. Ipod Composite Video out cable
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB...ks&mco=MTM1MTU

I started off my install by prepping the remote switch button (07 accord fog) by sanding it down 600grit-1000grit placing the dvd logo on it and painting it with the flat black testors paint. I did not take pics so i'm going to borrow some from izmyttz.

My next step before ripping into the car was to prep all the wiring as best I could while sitting inside. I also did not take pics of this but it's pretty simple. From the Doms unit the Green+white wire, the white wire that's with blue, and the ground from the power cable all get put together in a ring connector (the kinda a bolt can pass through) crimp on the connector. I then used my butt connectors to extended the red+black wires, the blue wire, and the black power wire. After crushing the connectors I individually wrapped them all with electrical tape. I then jammed these into a loom to protect them from any possible rubbing against the chassis or other components of the car.

Now it's time to bust the car apart! I'm going to start from the trunk and work forwards. I'll include the manual scans and real pics.

Start with removing the passenger side trunk lining.

Then the rear seats

Then the side moldings up to the front fuse panel

Then the glove box

and finally the center console

TIME FOR INTERMISSION have a water then 2 beers and some lunch

OK so now it's time to run all the harness that you prepped. Follow the pics, start in the trunk and work your way forwards.

It can easily be done in a day, but I spread it out over about a week waiting for miscellaneous things to arrive in the mail.

If there is a pole switch in the center console what does the DVD switch you make control?

To switch between navigation and DVD what is the procedure? I am considering this combo but can't decide.

hi,
nice install! thanks for the pics.

I have a question about dom's unit though. Isn't it PnP? You still need to tap for power sources though?

this is a good write up!! some quick questions tho.. what is the blue wire for? How do you wire your dvd switch? How does the center console switch work? Is there way to have 2 video inputs and retain the back up camera with a video splitter? What did you use to get the audio for your ipod?

Thanks!
