'15 TLX TPMS on ASA Rims

Greetings,

I have been enjoying my TLX V6 AWD for the past 4 months and (as I live in Canada) I am being proactive and getting my winter set-up ready for the snow. I sold my winter set-up for my 4G TL and noticed from my pics that the contours of the OEM 18" rims and my new ASA 18" rims looks very similar (see pics). I sold the old rims and TPMS so I don't have them anymore to compare to but my question is this:

Do the TPMS's have to be seated on the interior of the rim in order to function properly? You can see from the pics that the new OEM TPMS I picked up today at my dealer (hand tightened and secure) would not impede installation of any tires but is definitely not seated on the rim

I purchased one just to test and see but from reading a few other generic TPMS forums some say that seating is not required but others say it is. According to the formal Acura TLX TPMS installation guide it states that it DOES need to be seated

Any guidance is appreciated as I don't recall if my old winter set-up TPMS was seated

Thanks in advance,

4G TL TPMS and OEM RIM<br/>

NEW ASA rim and OEM TPMS

I think I may have figured it out. With the new OEM TPMS, I pushed back the black washer up the threaded valve to allow the base of the Valve to spin around 180 degrees. This brought the thicker part of the valve to the top of the sensor. After tightening it by hand, it looks from the photos to be seated on the rim (see pics)

I am going to take it to get installed/balanced at the dealer to make sure they work. I will post an update on the outcome

Cheers,

Adjusted valve stem by 180 degrees on new Rim

Unrelated to your questions, but what tire are you running?

I am running the same rubber I had on my 4G TL, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's 245/45R18. They only have about 3 months on them so in great condition. Couldn't find them anywhere locally here in the GTA so I had to source them from TireRack

Update

Just got back from the dealer and happy to say that the tires are mounted and balanced on my ASA rims along with the OEM TPMS. I haven't been able to confirm 100% that they work as it is 30 degrees celsius today however Erin Mills Acura service installed everything so if there is any error I will go back to them for an adjustment.

Here is a quick summary of what I have:

- 18x8 ASA GT10 Rims (black)
- 245/45R18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's
- Acura OEM TPMS sensors

I also picked up a set of black Gorilla wheel locks off Amazon.ca and will take a pic with everything on once installed. Here is a quick pic of one of the final wheels before I put them up on the tire rack for storage

Cheers,

Thanks. They are indeed self learning; once installed and after the tire swap, take them out for a drive with some steady speeds above 60 km/h and they will begin to pop up on the center display

Good luck to you!

Installed my winter set-up today and thought I would post a few pics of them on my TLX. TPMS update was quicker than my 4th gen (only drove for about 10 minutes and top speed was 50 KM/H). Drive is smooth and corners better than my stock set-up

Cheers
