TL BG transmission flush

Hi guys,
I when to acura of Brooklyn today to get the radiator flushed and the transmission oil changed.

The guy the writes everything up told me that Acura does not recomand the transmission flushed.

When they where done i was talking to the mechanic and he tells me he did the flush. So i asked him i thought Acura does not recommend flushing the transmission he said only for the RL they don’t do flushing.

I was pissed and did not say anything but what if he did something wrong and i start having issues with the tranny.

Before I knew about this, I got my tranny flushed as well.

I got it at about 57,000 miles and I'm sitting at 90,300 right now.

I don't think the flush really messed anything up, but of course. . my transmission whines and it's on it's way out soon.

the whine of the trans is normal. There are 2 different types of flushes in the automotive world:

1. Cleaner flush: This is where a machine sucks out the old fluid, cleaner is dumped into the trans, and then that is sucked out. Then fluid added.
This is harmful since dirt can get in places its not supposed to and then the new fluid can be contaminated with the cleaners, etc.

2. Fluid flush: This is where old fluid is drained, new is dumped in. Then the trans is run through it's gears to mix up the fluid. Then it is drained and refilled again with the same procedure above 2 more times to insure all the old fluid is out. This is good since you will always have lubricant in the trans and avoid contaimination. this is known as the 3x3 flush.

Thanks for clarifying csmeance.

Not to thread jack, but the whine I have in my transmission is not normal.

4th gear sings and varies with engine speed. I'm afraid I have identical symptoms to erick3's transmission .

speak with the tech--there is a new service bulletin with a method of what acura `mistakenly` calls- flush-
Its similar to the drain refill drive drain refill drive method but its all done on the lift with the car running.. in the air
Certain new models need this method to fully change out the fluid in the torque convertor, and it speeds the techs time so they can get to the next job

My local dealer just did my 'flush' as well. When I talked to him about it, he said the 'flush' was about about $160.00. I questioned him and said, doesn't Acura recommend against doing a 'flush?' He said, it's not a flush, they do the 3x3 method. I already knew via Acurazine, the right way was the 3x3 but when he said it, it made me feel better knowing they know what they are actually talking about.

transmission flush

I just bought a used 2007 Acura TL. I brought it to my mechanic for insurance pictures. He told me he recommends me to flush the trans fluid every 45k. That Acura has a issue if you don't do this. Is there any truth to it or is he talking out his ass?
Thanks

Have never heard about a 45K change interval. There's lots of debate on this subject, but if you read the owner's manual it will be pretty clear on the interval (60K) and the method (1 drain & 1 refill if you use the same Z1/DW fluid).

With that said, I see the merit personally of changing the fluid more frequent as a hedge. I'm changing every 20K with a single flush (which is similar to a 3x3 at 60K which is a very popular viewpoint on this forum). That way I get to sample the wear on the drain plug more frequent and have options like using Blackstone labs for analysis and such.

Follow the maintenance minder in the car. It will alert you when it needs to be done.

That said, since the transmission fluid was probably never done and the Z1 fluid was horrid, I would recommend swapping it out. I do not recommend flushing it but rather drain and fill. There are a ton of threads on the topic.
